1. Fisheries department to get marine enforcement wing

The State will soon get an exclusive Marine Enforcement Wing with 112 personnel for patrolling the sea, enforcing fishing regulations and preventing illegal and destructive fishing and the use of banned nets.

Personnel for the wing, to be headed by a Superintendent of Police, will be drawn from the State Police Department and will render support to officers of the Fisheries Department in enforcing the Tamil Nadu Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1983, along the State’s coastline.

2. The Madras High Court on Thursday summoned the Secretaries of the Municipal Administration and Housing departments, the member secretary of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) and Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner to appear before it on December 17 to explain inaction against 798 unauthorised bungalows and resorts identified along the Bay of Bengal on East Coast Road

3. The 40th edition of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) men’s World Cup begins on Friday, with G. Sathiyan, India’s top-ranked player, all set to make his tournament debut.

5. The Lok Sabha on Thursday passed the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Recognition of Property Rights of Residents in Unauthorised Colonies) Bill, 2019, which will grant ownership rights to residents living in 1,731 unauthorised colonies. The Bill was passed by voice vote.

6. Google sent out over 12,000 warnings to users globally, including about 500 in India, during the period from July to September this year, alerting them to “government-backed” phishing attempts against them.

7. The BJP on Thursday barred its Lok Sabha MP from Bhopal, Pragya Singh Thakur, from attending any meeting of the parliamentary party and dropped her from the consultative committee on defence after she praised Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse.

12. Sri Lanka’s newly elected President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who arrived in New Delhi on Thursday on his maiden state visit abroad, will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at noon on Friday. He will later call on President Ram Nath Govind, according to the External Affairs Ministry. Officials said national and regional security, development cooperation and economic assistance are likely to come up at the high-level bilateral discussion that comes a fortnight after Mr. Rajapaksa clinched the presidency.

Officials said they would calculate the sum assured for each crop and 1.5% of it would be the premium for the crop.

The rabi crops which have been covered in the insurance scheme are: paddy, maize, cumbu, cholam, redgram, blackgram, greengram, horsegram, bengalgram, groundnut, gingelly, cotton and sugarcane.

The highest premium per hectare was for sugarcane at Rs9,571 and the lowest premium was for gingelly at Rs409 per hectare, according to official information. The premium for paddy was Rs1,193 per hectare, for cotton Rs3,186 and groundnut Rs1,019 per hectare.
