She went on to say, "The memories we made, good or bad, will go with us. Al- though memories are great, that's all they are. We must find the now, and go from there." She told fellow students, "We leave to enter the 'real world.' No matter how much we don't want to, we have to grow up. Now is our time to make our mark, to make a difference, to be remem- bered. We can be whatever we want to become. We are the heroes of our own ad- venture, racing on toward the next quest, conquering obstacles along the way." She said success comes through hard work and urged her fellow students not to ponder the past, but look to the future. And, she also cautioned, "Be careful not to turn the pages too quickly, or you'll miss out on your adven- ture." The Casto family attends Eureka Christian Church in Grantham. Southern Wayne school counselor Kim Whitfield had high praises for the graduating senior valedic- torian. "Shannon is an all around great student! She is very dedicated and willing to do what it takes to achieve her goal. Just this year, she played multiple sports, took classes above and be- yond what was required, and was editor of the school yearbook, which took many hours of her time. This is in addition to applying for col- lege, scholarships, financial aid, and all the other tasks a senior must complete. It has been an incredible year for Shannon!"
