WADE PHILLIPS (64-47, 7TH YEAR, 16-5 - DAL.)Wade Phillips was named the seventh head coach in Dallas

Cowboys history on Feb. 8, 2007. Phillips, now in his 32nd yearas an NFL coach, has guided his teams to four playoff appear-ances with only one non-winning season. His first season inDallas was no exception as the Cowboys tied the franchiserecord with 13 wins. En route to a 13-3 record, Dallas capturedthe 20th division title in franchise history. Under Phillips' guid-ance, the Cowboys sent a league record 13 players to the ProBowl. Phillips had head coaching stops with the Denver Bron-cos and Buffalo Bills. He also served as an interim head coachin New Orleans in 1985 (1-3 record) and Atlanta in 2003 (2-1).The last seven times Phillips has taken over as a head coachor defensive coordinator, his new team has reached the play-offs in his first season. RUN FELIX, RUNWhen drafting Felix Jones with their first pick in the 2008 NFL

Draft, the Dallas Cowboys knew what they were getting from the run-ning back from Arkansas. Through his collegiate career, he not onlyproved himself as a capable back, but also as a kickoff return man.

Dallas’ selection of Jones paid dividends against Philadelphia(9/15) when he established a club record with 247 kickoff returnyards. His average of 41.2 yards-per-return (six for 247) was goodfor the fourth-best single-game average in club history:

98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The return marked the firstkickoff return for a touchdown by Dallas since Randal Williams tookone back 38 yards against Philadelphia (10/12/03). It was thelongest return since Reggie Swinton took one back 100 yards atPhiladelphia (9/22/02).

The next week at Green Bay (9/21), Jones once again turnedheads when he took a handoff from Tony Romo and sprintedaround left end for a 60-yard touchdown. It was the longest rush-ing touchdown by a Cowboys rookie running back since TonyDorsett rushed for an 84-yard score against Philadelphia (12/4/77).Jones’ run was the fourth-longest touchdown run by a club rookierunning back:

With his two-sack effort, Henry became the 27th cornerback torecord two-or-more sacks in a game since 1982 - the first year sacksbecame an official statistic. It was also the first time since Ricky Man-ning Jr. (Chicago) had two sacks against Tampa Bay (12/17/06).

Through four weeks, Witten leads the team and is tied for thirdin the NFL - tops among tight ends - with 27 catches. His team-high 363 receiving yards is good for sixth in the league - topsamong tight ends.

Witten @ Cleveland (9/7): Witten began the 2008 seasonmuch as he ended the 2007 season - tying for the team lead inreceptions (six - all for first downs) and leading the team in yards(96), including hauling in a long pass of 22 yards. Behind the O-Line’s work, the Dallas of-fense finished second in the NFC, third in the league, averaging365.7 yards-per-game. The club racked up 455 points, the sec-ond-most behind the 1983 squad’s 479. The Dallas line was alsowell represented in the Pro Bowl, sending Adams for his fourthappearance - second consecutive - Gurode for his second con-secutive and Davis for his first trip. A product of durability, he has played in 96-of-97possible career games, missing only one game due to a sus-pension for a horse-collar tackle. Williams will be a gameday in-active for the next several weeks after suffering a broken rightforearm against Philadelphia (9/15).

Williams @ Cleveland (9/7): Williams had four tackles in theseason opener.

Williams vs. Philadelphia (9/15): In the home opening win,Williams made four tacklers before leaving the game with a frac-tured right forearm. The injury will force him to miss severalweeks.

Ken Hamlin once again quarterbacks the secondary from hisfree safety spot. He joined Dallas in free agency leading up tothe 2007 season and had a career-year, establishing personal highs in tackles (102) and interceptions(five) en route to his first career Pro Bowl selection. Hamlin’s fu-ture in Dallas was solidified this past offseason as he signed asix-year contract.

After four weeks of play, Hamlin is tied for fourth on the teamwith 26 tackles.

Hamlin @ Cleveland (9/7): Hamlin led all Dallas defensivebacks with six tackles in the season opener.

Hamlin vs. Philadelphia (9/15): Hamlin once again led allDallas defensive backs with seven tackles.

Hamlin @ Green Bay (9/21): He finished second in the de-fensive secondary with seven tackles.

Behind Hamlin, is third-year safety Patrick Watkins who willcontinue to see time in nickel and dime packages. He wasthrown into the mix early in his rookie season, starting nine ofthe 14 games he played in. Watkins has been called up to fill infor Williams (forearm) as the starting strong safety.

Watkins @ Cleveland (9/7): Watkins opened up the seasonwith one tackle. vs. Philadelphia (9/15): He saw increased ac-tion after Roy Williams left the contest with a fractured forearmand made five tackles. @ Green Bay (9/21): Watkins started atstrong safety, but a shoulder injury early in the first quarter forcedhim to remain mainly on special teams. He still added two tack-les. vs. Washington (9/28): He posted four tackles while seeingextensive time at the safety position.

Keith Davis, the Cowboys 2007 special teams captain, wasthought to have been lost after he left via free agency during theoffseason to sign with the Miami Dolphins. However, after the Dol-

phins released the six-year veteran on Aug. 27, the Cowboysquickly moved to re-sign their former special teams ace on Sept. 3.

Courtney Brown, one of Dallas’ 2007 seventh round draftchoices, will continue to battle for playing time after moving fromcorner to safety at the start of the 2007 training camp. He wasinactive in the season opener at Cleveland (9/7) and vs.Philadelphia (9/15).

Brown @ Green Bay (9/21): In his first appearance of the2008 season, Brown played the majority of the game at strongsafety, filling in for an injured Williams and Watkins and madeone tackle. vs. Washington (9/28): Brown once again saw ex-tensive time at safety due to injuries though he did not recordany statistics.

PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- SPECIAL TEAMS* After four weeks of play, the DallasCowboys are 14th in the league (sixthin the NFC) with a kickoff return av-erage of 24.2 yards-per-return.* With a 4.2-yard average on puntreturns, Dallas is 31st in the league(16th in the conference) in that cate-gory.* On the coverage side, Dallas entersWeek 5 seventh in the league (fifth inthe NFC), yielding 19.9 yards-perkickoff-return.* In the punt coverage area, Dallasis giving up an average of 8.8 yards-per-return to rank 17th in the league(ninth in the conference) after fourweeks. * The Cowboys kickoff return team is giving the offense the ball at its own 26.0-yard line, which is 16th-best in the league, sixth in the conference.* On the other side, Cowboys opponents are averaging starts at their own 26.6-yard line, which ranks 16th in the league- ninth in the conference.* Dallas is still one of just two teams (San Diego) to have a kickoff returned for a touchdown through four weeks.

2008 SPECIAL TEAMS HIGHLIGHTS* Nick Folk came through in the primetime lights against Philadelphia (9/15), connecting on

both of his field goal attempts - 51 and 47 yards - and was true on all four PATs. He re-peated that feat the next week in Green Bay (9/21), converting both of his field goal tries- 25 and 39) and all three of his PATs

* Felix Jones recorded his first career kickoff return for a touchdown when he took oneback 98 yards against Philadelphia (9/15). It was the first kickoff return for a touchdownby Dallas since Randal Williams returned one 38 yards against Philadelphia (10/12/03).

* F. Jones’ kickoff return against the Eagles was also the longest since Reggie Swintonhad one for 100 yards at Philadelphia (9/22/02).

* F. Jones established a club record with his 247 return yards against the Eagles while his41.2 average was good for the fourth-best in team annals.

* Mat McBriar had a season-long punt of 65 yards at Green Bay (9/21). The punt came inthe third quarter from the Dallas 15-yard line to pin Green Bay at its 13-yard line follow-ing an added penalty.

Punter Mat McBriar has become one of the NFL’s pre-mier punters in just four seasons and holds six of the club’stop-10 single-game highs for gross average, the top-twospots for single-season gross average and the second-bestsingle-game net average. He finished 2007 fourth in theleague with a 47.1 gross and seventh with a 38.5 net aver-age. Narrowly missing a Pro Bowl selection in 2007, McBriaralso has a streak of 286 consecutive punts without a block -second in team record books behind Danny White’s 341. Forhis career, he averages a booming 44.9 gross average with92 dropped inside opponents’ 20-yard line.

McBriar is currently sixth in the NFL (third in the NFC)with a gross average of 48.1. His net average of 40.4 yards-per-punt is good for seventh in the league (third in the NFC).

@ Cleveland (9/7): McBriar punted twice for a 48.5 grossaverage and a 37.0 net average along with a long punt of 52yards to open the 2008 season. vs. Philadelphia (9/15):McBriar booted three punts for a 46.7 gross average and anet average of 42.7. He also dropped one punt inside the op-ponents 20-yard line and had a long punt of 55 yards. @Green Bay (9/21): McBriar punted three times for a 47.3gross average with a net average of 43.3. He also pinned thePackers offense inside their own 20-yard line once and hada long punt of 65 yards. vs. Washington (9/28): In his mostwork thus far this season, McBriar punted six times for agross average of 49.2 and a net average of 39.0. He had onepunt downed inside the 20-yard line with one touchback anda long of 59 yards.

The Cowboys may have found the permanent solution atplace kicker - a position that has given the club trouble re-cently. Nick Folk, one of Dallas’ sixth round choices in the2007 NFL Draft, will once again handle the place kicking du-ties after becoming the first Cowboys rookie to be selectedto the Pro Bowl since Emmitt Smith (1990), and the third-everDallas kicker (first rookie kicker) to make the all-star trip. Hefinished his rookie season fourth among kickers with 131points to establish a club rookie scoring record. He converted

KICKING GAMEall 53 PATs and was true on 26-of-31 field goals.

@ Cleveland (9/7): Folk began the season in perfectform, converting on all four PAT attempts. vs. Philadelphia(9/15): Folk had another successful appearance on MondayNight Football, connecting on both his field goal attempts (51and 47) - the first two attempted by the kicker this season -and all five of his PAT attempts. @ Green Bay (9/21): TheCowboys kicker was true on both of his field goal attempts(25, 39) and all three of his PATs. vs. Washington (9/28):Folk hit a 36-yard field goal and was successful on all threePAT tries. He was, however, unsuccessful in his first onsidekick attempt of the season which would have given Dallas theball back late in the fourth quarter.

Deep snapper Louis-Philippe Ladouceur signed withDallas prior to their Week Four contest at Oakland in 2005and has been solid and mistake-free on 210 punts, 91 fieldgoals and 137 PATs since joining the team.

With preseason injuries to Miles Austin (knee) and IsaiahStanback (shoulder) - both of whom were slotted as kickoff re-turners - the Dallas return game took on a new look with theCowboys turning to rookie Felix Jones to handle the return du-ties. Jones is back in familiar territory as he handled kickoff re-turns at Arkansas, leaving the collegiate ranks as the NCAA’sninth-ranked returner with a career average of 28.2 yards-per-return. Jenkins also excelled in his senior campaign as a kick re-turn specialist, averaging 30.4 yards with his first return of theseason going for a 100-yard touchdown. Scandrick - anotherDallas rookie who was selected in the fifth round of the 2008NFL draft - will also be in the mix at kick returner after previouslyseeing time there during college. Stanback returned as the sec-ond kick return specialist in Week 2.

@ Cleveland (9/7): F. Jones made his NFL kick returndebut in the second quarter with his only return of the afternoongoing for 20 yards. Scandrick returned his first career kickoff 19yards at the beginning of the third quarter in his NFL debut. vs.Philadelphia (9/15): F. Jones turned heads in front of a nation

Jonesreturned two kickoffs for 49 yards (24.5 avg.) with a long re-turn of 21 yards. vs. Washington (9/28): F. Jones was heldto 54 yards on four kickoffs with a long return of 22 yards.

Both Terence Newman and Patrick Crayton may seetime returning punts, but the full time role will be handled byAdam Jones. Jones, an explosive punt returner while withthe Tennessee Titans, has a career average of 10.8 yards-per-return. In the 2006 season, Jones averaged 12.9 yards-per-return with three returns for a touchdown, including a90-yarder.

A. Jones @ Cleveland (9/7): In his Dallas debut, Jonesreturned two punts for eight yards. vs. Philadelphia (9/15):Jones returned three punts for 11 yards with a long return ofsix yards. @ Green Bay (9/21): Jones had three punts re-turned for 13 yards, including a long return of seven yards.vs. Washington (9/28): Jones returned three punts for 14yards with a long return of eight yards.

They currentlyhave the league’s fourth-ranked kickoff coverage unit and the15th-ranked punt return unit. The Cowboys return eight oftheir top-10 special teams coverage specialists from last sea-son: Patrick Watkins - who led the team - Bobby Carpen-ter, Kevin Burnett, Keith Davis, Justin Rogers - who led allrookie coverage men - Sam Hurd, Anthony Spencer, MilesAustin and Deon Anderson.

After four weeks of action, Burnett (10) leads the spe-cial teams units in tackles, followed by Rogers (seven),Scandrick and Davis (five) and Carpenter, Watkins andChoice (three each).
