A New Hornsey History Book

Later on this year our friends at Hornsey Historical Society will publish a new history of the Church and Churchyard of St Mary, Hornsey, which will be of interest to many of our

parishioners, not least because our parishes were carved out of the ancient Parish of Hornsey. The book, by local historian Bridget Cherry, will be called Ivy-Mantled Tower.

The title comes from Thomas Gray's poem Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard.

Janet Owen from Hornsey Historical Society writes, 'In this most readable, meticulously researched and lavishly illustrated hard-back book, the author tells the story

of a succession of church buildings which formed a significant focus for local society in the centre of the village of Hornsey over five centuries, and concludes with the

recent regeneration of both the surviving church tower and its churchyard'.

To help cover the cost of the publication, Hornsey Historical Society is seeking financial support through public subscriptions. For a minimum donation of £25.00 you can subscribe to the book. Your name will be included in the subscribers' list

in the book and you will receive your own reserved copy of the book too.

Fr Tim says. ‘to support this excellent local Church History project please pick up a leaflet at the back of each Church. I am really looking forward to reading the book

about the church in Hornsey down the centuries. Meanwhile, it is well worth calling into the Hornsey Historical Society shop. It is in the old school house next to Holy

Innocents. The most recent edition of the HHS Journal contains two fascinating articles by Janet Owen about what local churches did during the First World War.

Holy Trinity Annual Meeting

The Annual Parochial Church Meeting, when we elect our Churchwardens and PCC members, will

take place over a ‘bring and share’ lunch after Mass on Sunday 26th April. If you would like to consider

standing for election, and want to know more about what is involved, please have a word with

Fr. Patrick or one of the Churchwardens.

Our New Pastoral Assistants

We are very pleased to announce that we have appointed new Pastoral

Assistants, who will begin their year with us in September. They are Stephen Jullien

and William Hamilton-Box.

Stephen comes from Berkhamstead In Buckinghamshire and is currently

studying French and German at Durham University. He will be

based mostly at Holy Innocents. William comes from Canterbury and

is currently working as a Pastoral Assistant in Kentish Town. Before that he read music at university. He will be

based at Holy Trinity and St Paul's.

Both Stephen and William are exploring their vocation to the priesthood and we look forward to supporting them in that. They will be able to make an excellent contribution to the life of our parishes

too. They are both good singers, smart at IT and sports enthusiasts!

Electoral Roll Revision

In preparation for our annual meetings later this month we are revising the church electoral roll.

This is the nearest thing we have to a list of parishioners, and being on it means you are entitled

to vote at the meeting and stand for election.

Please, if you are not on it, see Margaret Gittens at Holy Trinity, Ruth Vanhorne at St Paul’s

or Brenda Barwick at Holy Innocents.

They will give you a form for you to fill in and return it to them. The same applies if you have

changed your address or contact details recently.

Bible Reading Challenge

We intend holding our second meeting for those who have taken up the Bible Reading Challenge on

Tuesday 14th April following evening Mass at Holy Trinity. The meeting will start at 8.00 pm.

Everyone welcome from whichever church you attend.

Bible Week at Walsingham

The next Bible Week at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham will take place from Monday 26th to

Friday 30th October 2015. The theme of this year's Bible

Week will be the Psalms.

Each day of Bible Week there will be a keynote address about the

Psalms. The addresses are always really good and are both scholarly and easy to understand. There will also be discussion groups, lovely

worship and a chance to enjoy the beauty and peace of Walsingham.

Fr Eric and Fr Tim will be leading a group of parishioners to the

Bible Week. If you’d like to go, please see Brenda Barwick at HI,

Hannah Taylor at St Paul's or Margaret Gittens at Holy Trinity.
