Iman Abdoulkarim – Copley High School Sean Cann – St. Edwards High School Yameen Erritouni – Beaver Local High School Vungelia Glyptis – Normandy High School Winifred Jones – Hathaway Brown High School Maddie Koehler – Cranbrook Academy Thuy Le – Aurora High School Brandon Mader – Jackson High School Lawrence Shelven Jr. – Shaker Heights High School Brenden Stinson – Shaker Heights High School Lauren Vavruska – Shaker Heights High School We’ll get a chance to meet this extraordinary class and their families at our Annual Freshmen Sendoff in August. In addition, we’ll officially congratulate Amrita Sankar ’12 who will be our new Events Chairperson and Lindsay Guzowski ’03 who will be stepping into the DCNEO Vice President’s slot. Our current Events Chair, Dierre Upshaw ‘09, has moved to Hanover. We wish him well in his new endeavors.

 FROM  THE  CUYAHOGA  VALLEY  

 GREAT  ISSUES  ON  THE  GREAT  LAKES    For  those  who  missed  Dartmouth  Hillel  Rabbi  Edward  Boraz  speak  on  “Project    Preservation”  last  April,  we  have  DVD  copies  of  the  students’  trip  to  Eastern  Europe  including  their  visit  to  Auschwitz   and   their   service   work   preserving   the   Jewish   cemeteries   of   this   region.   You’ll  remember  that  the  students  examine  the  question  of  how  the  policy  of  genocide  came  to  be  adopted   and   implemented   and   its   effect   on   a   particular   Jewish   shtetl,   or   town.   This   town  then  becomes  the  focus  of  their  restoration  project.  If  you’d  like  to  see  the  DVD,  as  they  say,  that  could  be  arranged.  Let  me  know,  [email protected].        

FUTURE  EVENTS…    [JUNE]    MONTHLY  LUNCHES…the  next  east  side  lunch  is  TUESDAY,  June  11th  ,  at  PEARL  OF  THE  ORIENT   restaurant   (20121   Van   Aken   Blvd.   in   Shaker   Heights)   starting   at   11:45.   Contact  Allan  Vendeland  ‘57  ([email protected])  for  further  details.      The  next  downtown   lunch   is  FRIDAY,   June  28th   ,   at  PuraVida   (puravidabybrandt.com)  on  Public  Square.  We’ll  meet  at  11:45,  hopefully  on  the  outdoor  patio.  Let  Tom  Wise  ’89  know  if   you   will   attend   ([email protected])   and   if   you’d   like   to   be   informed   about   downtown  lunches  in  the  future.

         TURNING  THE  EMERALD  NECKLACE  DARTMOUTH  GREEN  –  SATURDAY  JULY  13th    

    We  continue  our  tour  of  the  Metroparks  with  a  stop  at  Mill  Stream  Run.  This  will  be  our                                         eleventh  hike,   leaving  us   six  Reservations   to   complete  our   tour  of   all   17.  Mill   Stream     Run           ambles   through  Berea,   Strongsville,  Middleburg  Heights,   and  North  Royalton   .     We’ll  send  a  reminder  later  in  the  month,  which  will  include  details  of  our  trailhead  and     time  to  meet.
