Mary Moore is participating in The Great Kindness Challenge 2016!!
The date of the event is January 25-29. We are encouraging our students
and ourselves to focus on demonstrating kindness in everything we
do. Rather than more lessons on Anti-Bullying, challenging students to act
kindly is a positive method to end bullying behaviors. We are teaching them
what to do instead of what to stop doing.
-A parent letter will be sent home the Wednesday before the challenge
begins so parents can encourage their children in the challenge.
-The marquee will have a reminder.
-Each student will receive a Kindness Challenge Checklist - 50 ways to show
kindness. We will encourage students to complete the checklist by
the Friday of the challenge.
-All classrooms are encouraged to participate in a Door Decoration
Contest. Winners will be announced Friday, January 29th.
-Kindness Quotes will be read during morning announcements. Teachers will
receive a longer list of kindness quotes to use in the classroom.
-A "Kindness Matters" banner will be posted for everyone to sign.
This is our guidance topic for January - Self-Management/Communication
(Regulate expression of emotions and listen to others). The Great Kindness
Challenge will help us focus on expression of emotions and healthy
communication!
Thank you!

Art News with Mr. Hughes 1/19/16 5th and 6th grade Art club times have been extended to 4:30. This is due to the extra nine minutes that have been added to the school day. Also, for safety purposes, we will all be dismissing out of the same door (the front main entrance). Students are now learning about and working with the Art element Form. Something as simple as a bottle of glue has form. Forms take up space and have three-dimensions; length, width, depth. 3rd grade students are making wire sculptures, 2nd grade is making cylinder sculpture creatures, 1st grade students are making cylinder sculptures, 4th grade is making paper sculptures focusing on loops, arches, and cylinders, 5th grade students are making see-through cubes, and 6th grade students are being challenged to create a stick tower utilizing support and balance. We are busy, we are creative, we are problem solving and we are getting smarter! If you have any cereal boxes that you no longer need, please send with child and they can give them to Mr. Hughes. The thin cardboard makes excellent material for art supplies.
