Dear Reader,

Here it is, the first Atma Kriya Newsletter, written with a wide

variety of interesting articles that we hope will inspire you to seek

Divinity in your daily life.

In this first issue, just before Christmas, the theme is about

experiencing Christ-Consciousness. Christ Consciousness means to

see the world through the heart and mind of the Divine, to refrain

from judging others, to love unconditionally, to be positive and be

in Oneness.

So, let this Christmas be a time of spiritual transformation. Let us

think about how He would like us to spend this time. Don‘t forget,

it‘s His birthday! The best gift for the Divine who already has

everything, is just to love Him, to focus on Him in meditation and

to keep remembering Him while going about our worldly duties.

Let us celebrate the birth of Christ on the altar of meditation and

inner silence. We wish for all of you to experience the real birth of

Christ, within you.

With Lots of Love,

ATMA KRIYA

IN THE LIGHT OF KRIYA YOGA

riya Yoga will ultimately spread to all lands and aid

in harmonising the nations through man‘s personal

transcendental perception of the infinite God.‖ It is with

these words in 1920, that Mahavatar Babaji blessed

Parmahansa Yogananda on the eve of his departure for

America. There over a 30-year period, Yogananda fulfilled his

life‘s mission of teaching the sacred science of Kriya Yoga to

over 100,000 students.

Some 60 years earlier, in 1861, Shyamacharan Lahiri, while

wandering in the Drongiri mountain area of the Himalayas,

was approached by a mysterious holy man. Unable to

recognize him at first, the holy man touched his head and

awakened his latent memories. He recognized Him as

Mahavatar Babaji, and the guru-disciple relationship that had

been theirs for several incarnations was renewed once again.

Lahiri Mahasaya, as he became later known (Mahasaya means

―one who is cosmic conscious‖), was a Yogavatar (incarnation

of Yoga), and was initiated into Kriya Yoga by Mahavatar

Babaji. He was to play a major role in re-introducing Kriya

Yoga to the world, though the lineage of Jnanavatar Sri

Yukteshwar (an incarnation of wisdom) and Premavatar

Paramahansa Yogananda (an incarnation of love).

So what is Kriya Yoga and how does it relate to Atma Kriya?

And why has Mahavatar Babaji given so much importance to

it for the spiritual evolution of the planet and man‘s

realization of his true Being or Atma? Let us consider these

questions.

Mahavatar Babaji and Kriya Yoga largely came to the

attention of the West after Paramahansa Yogananda wrote his

spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi. However, the

history of Mahavatar‘s teachings goes back long before then.

Mahavatar had taken close disciples and taught them a variety

of different yoga systems over the centuries, suited for their

times to further man‘s spiritual growth. This included the

teaching of Jnan Yoga to Dakshina Murti, Hatha Yoga to

Maha Buddha Baba, Raja Yoga through Adi Sankara in the

eight century and Kabir in the fifteenth century, Tantra Yoga

to Brahmani, Nada or Sabda Yoga to Burua Baba, Mansa Yoga

to Hairakhan Baba, Bhakti Yoga to Paramhansa Brahmananda,

Mantra Yoga to Nim Karoli Baba, Pasupat Yoga to Sombari

Baba, Kriya Yoga to Lahiri Mahasaya, Purna Kriya Yoga to

Swami Satyeswarananda Giri Babaji and most recently Atma

Kriya (formerly Bhakti Kriya) to Swami Vishwananda. The

latter three are all different forms of Kriya Yoga and have

evolved for our times. The most recent, Atma Kriya has been

chosen for our times, today.

There have been other systems of Kriya Yoga as well. As with

Atma Kriya, they all have the following hallmarks: (1) The

techniques originate from Mahavatar Babaji. (2) The

techniques involve breathing in the spine to control and

expand the life-force. These techniques awaken the Kundalini

energy at the base of the spine (man‘s highest potential), so

that it pierces all six energy centres (chakras) along the spine,

resulting in achievement of super-consciousness. (3) A sense

of unconditional love and devotion (bhakti) is required,

because Kriya Yoga is characterised as an offering and

techniques done mechanically will not be effective. One

should practise out of love for the Lord, without any selfish

desires for results. (4) Self-study and self-awareness is key to

achieving higher consciousness.

Atma Kriya and Kriya Yoga bring about the simultaneous

development of body, mind, intellect and soul. It is the

essence and synthesis of all the yogic techniques taught in the

world. As Mahavatar Babaji says, ―Atma Kriya is one of the

most powerful and fastest ways of attaining union with the

Divine through the uplifment of limited, human

consciousness to God-cosmic-consciousness.‖

Unstable mind or prana (life force) is the cause of man‘s pain

and discord. It can be brought under control through Atma

Kriya and Kriya Yoga. The mind produces an effect that can

be likened to the waves of the ocean, preventing man from

glimpsing the seabed, a vision of his spiritual heritage. These

waves cannot be controlled through will-power alone. When

the external respiration is turned inward, it gradually stills all

the waves, making the mind controlled and constant. This in

“K

turn results in freedom from negative traits, including anger,

hatred, jealousy and ego.

But in addition, Atma Kriya compared to other Kriya Yoga

systems naturally unfolds bhakti for the Divine. Spiritual

progress is not measured by your knowledge, but by how

much love you have. Bhakti is the most powerful tool for

personal transformation. If you can harness the power of

bhakti, then spiritual transformation is assured. It is the

undercurrent of all forms of spiritual practice and it is the

only path that can lead you to liberation. To realize the Atma,

which is real spiritual knowledge, one needs to have true

bhakti. As one begins to perceive that the indwelling Self is

the sole doer in you, that He Himself is functioning in the

body, then Self-Realization is attained.

In the history of Kriya Yoga, whenever there has been a

decline in its practice, a spiritual Master has always been sent

to re-establish the technique amongst mankind. In recent

years, Mahavatar Babaji has given the teachings of Atma Kriya

to Swami Vishwananda to spread.

The science of Self-realization is best learnt from a self-

realized Master or one of his appointed teachers. But how can

one distinguish a true Master? As Jesus said: ―You will know

them by their fruits‖. Divine power is the real fruit. The true

Master or Guru is a person who will immediately infuse

Divine power in the disciple at the time of initiation. The real

spiritual Master will give you evidence of His Divine power,

just as Jesus and his apostles did. In Atma Kriya, the giving of

Shaktipat is the process of awakening a person‘s Kundalini

and healing energy. Shaktipat stands for ―Descent of Grace‖,

and can only be given by a Sathguru. It happens by the grace

of the Guru Parampara - Mahavatar Babaji and Swami

Vishwananda. This grace has also been passed on to the Atma

Kriya teachers.

Mahavatar Babaji has designated Atma Kriya and Kriya Yoga

as primary vehicles for spiritual evolution in these times, and

has said that it is suitable for even a house-holder as a means

of achieving Self-realization. Paramahansa Yogananda

referred to Kriya Yoga as the ―aeroplane route to God‖,

because like Atma Kriya, a practitioner could achieve in just a

few moments by one inhalation and exhalation, the spiritual

evolution a common person would undergo in one year. Thus,

it was possible for an ordinary person to greatly develop their

conscious level in one lifetime and achieve Self-realization.

Lahiri Mahasaya said that the immortal karma yoga of the

Bhagavad Gita was also the Kriya Yoga he revived; that it was

the method known and passed down throughout the ages and

written about in the scriptures, from the Upanishads to the

Mahabharata. Patanjali practised something akin to Kriya

Yoga. Many other spiritual Masters in the past have also had

knowledge of a similar kind of Self-realization technique,

including King Janaka, Socrates, Jesus Christ, Saint Paul, Saint

John, Kabir Das and Guru Nanak, to name but a few.

KRIYA YOGA AND CHRISTIANITY

Is Kriya Yoga mentioned

in the Holy Bible? Yes it

is. Jesus says seek first

the Kingdom of God.

Kriya Yoga means to

look within yourself and

seek God and His

Kingdom within you.

In John 14:10, Jesus said,

―Believest ye not that I

am in my father and the

Father in me? The

words that I speak unto

you I speak not for

myself: but the Father

that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works.‖ This verse has the

same meaning as the words Kriya and Yoga. Kri means

whatever activity you are doing – word and deed, and ya

means it is done by Him, the almighty Father.

Jesus came to teach mankind of his unity with God. This

oneness with God is what is called yoga. The word yoga

comes from the Sanskrit root yuj, which means ‖to join‖ or

―unite‖.

In Matthew 11:29, Jesus said, ―Take my yoke upon you and

learn from me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall

find rest unto your souls‖. In this verse, the Greek word

translated to ―yoke‖. So in the Holy Bible that ―yoke‖ which

Jesus wanted every person to take upon themselves, is the

process through which one attains conscious union with the

Heavenly Father, ―I am in my Father and the Father is in me.‖

When a man reaches God, he himself becomes perfect. Self-

realization is the practise of worshipping God internally so as

to become God, or attain union with Him.

The path of Self-realization and the path of ego-ignorance are

the two eternal paths of the world. The latter leads to rebirth

while the former to liberation. Therefore, be steadfast in your

practice of Atma Kriya at all times.

SAINT JUGGLER

aint Barnabas was a juggler. He dressed himself in the

costume of a clown, but the costume only had two

colours: blue and white. It was so, because Saint Barnabas

loved Virgin Mary very much and wanted to dress only in the

colours that She wore. He went around the streets juggling

with his balls and knives. People liked him and his juggling.

They often gave him some coins, which bought him enough

food for the day.

One day a monk was passing by and asked him why he was

wearing such funny clothes. He answered that it was so,

because he loved the Virgin Mary very much. The monk

replied: ―We monks also love the Blessed Virgin, but we don‘t

go around juggling, you know.‖ Barnabas asked: ―Then what

do you do the whole day?‖ The monk answered: ―Well, we all

pray a lot. I write books about the Blessed Virgin, Brother

John prints the books, Brother Paul draws pictures for the

books, Brother Samuel makes beautiful statues of Mary in

marble and wood, Brother Thomas grows beautiful lilies for

the Blessed Mother, and so on.‖ Then Barnabas said: ―I wish I

could be a monk too. Is it possible that I could be a monk,

Father?‖ The monk answered: ―I don‘t see why you cannot. It

is good that you have mentioned it to me, for I am the Abbot

of the monastery‖. And so Saint Barnabas became a monk.

But on joining the monastery, Saint Barnabas was not happy.

He had plenty of time to kneel before the white marble statue

of the Virgin, but he thought he should be doing something

for Our Lady. However, he couldn‘t write books like the

Abbot, he couldn‘t print books like Brother John, he couldn‘t

draw pictures like Brother Paul. The only thing he knew was

juggling. He was very sad that he could not do anything

special for the Blessed Virgin. But one night he thought:

―Why should I not be a juggler? It‘s the only thing I do know.

If I can make people happy with my tricks, why can‘t I make

the Virgin and the Little Child Jesus happy with my tricks?‖

And from that day every night he took his balls and knives

and tiptoed into the chapel. When everyone was asleep, he

would juggle in front of the marble statue of the Virgin Mary,

making Her and Her Son happy.

Brother Sacristan saw him one day as he was performing his

special trick, standing on his head and juggling. Everyone

thought that poor Barnabas was mad. But then the Blessed

Virgin said: ―It was excellent. Little Jesus liked it too. Son, give

Barnabas a kiss.‖ Barnabas took the Child Jesus in his arms and

received a loving kiss from Him on his cheek. The monks

knelt down when they saw this.

When Saint Barnabas died, the monks buried him in the

chapel in front of the statue of the Virgin. They put his balls

and knives in his coffin for the Abbot said that he might need

them to make God happy in heaven.

By his life Saint Barnabas showed mankind, that ―only one

thing is needed to please God: to do even the smallest thing

out of great love.‖ (Saint Faustina)

HE WILL ALWAYS HELP

ne day Saint Gerard went to the well to bring some

water. Accidentally, he dropped his key into the well.

He ran to the nearest church and started to pray to Little

Jesus. When the prayer was finished, he took the statuette of

Little Jesus and went with Him to the well. He placed Little

Jesus in the bucket and said to Him: ―O Lord, only you can

help me with this‖. Then he lowered the bucket with Little

Jesus down the well. When he pulled it up, the Little Jesus

was holding the key in his hand.

CHRIST CONSCIOUSNESS

lessed be those who seek; for they shall find; the

kingdom of God is within. The kingdom of God is

within each and every one of human kind and through truly

wanting it, you will find it!

- Sri Mahavatar Babaji

ANSWER THE CALL OF CHRIST

he conception of Christ was not ordinary, but

immaculate. For us His birthday is therefore a very

special day to celebrate, knowing and feeling as we do that in

Jesus immaculate conception the Heavenly Father prepared

for the birth of a perfect being. The true celebration of

Christmas is realization in our own consciousness of the birth

of Christ Consciousness.

Do away with all wandering thoughts and feel your oneness

with the Spirit of Christ. I invoke the Spirit of Jesus, and of

the Masters who are one with Him in Spirit, that the perfect

one who was born some nineteen hundred years ago may

manifest His consciousness within you now. This I pray

earnestly today, with all the unctuous fervour of my soul. All

things are possible through prayer. Jesus said, ‗What things

soever ye desire, when ye prayer, believe that ye receive

them, and ye shall have them.‘ Believe that your prayer for

His visitation is granted, and it shall be so. The love of Christ

becomes manifest in you not merely by peace of mind nor

even by burning zeal; but by calm, devotional will for

perfection. ‗O Christ, come unto us! Manifest Thyself unto us!

Naughty or good, we are Thine. Deliver us from the bondage

of restlesness and receive us as we are.‘

May this Christmas be the greatest holy day you have ever

had. Want nothing but the love of God. That alone is real.

- Sri Paramahansa Yogananda ―Answer the Call of Christ‖

(The Divine Romance, Self-Realisation Fellowship, USA)

REVIVE THE BIRTH OF CHRIST

esus is not born only once a year. Our purpose here is to

revive the birth of Christ within ourselves. And this is why

He incarnated – to remind us, that we are not just mere

human beings; we are also children of God. If one think of

oneself being just normal human being, he will stay just a

normal human being. But if one will remind himself his true

identity of being a Spirit, then one will reach a level of being a

Spirit.

Virgin Mary, from whom Christ took birth, represents the

purity of our heart. Very often she is represented as pure,

white lilies, without any stain. Human heart should be like

this. And then from the purity of your heart God can take

birth. The Lord is already there! Deep inside, waiting to come

out.

So keep practising it: everyday say to yourself, ‗I am the Spirit,

I am the Christ!‘, and let it reflect outside.

- Sri Swami Vishwananda Talk given on Christmas 2005

I AM THE WAY

et not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe

also in me. In my Father‘s house are many mansion: if it

where not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place

for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come

again, and receive you unto myself; that where are I am, there

ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye

know. I am the truth, the way and the life: no man commeth

unto the Father but by me [Christ Consciousness].

THE ETERNAL CANTICLE

Exiled afar from heaven, I still, dear Lord, can sing, -

I, Thy betrothed, can sing the eternal hymn of love;

For, spite of exile comes to me, on dove-like wing,

Thy Holy Spirit's fire of rapture from above.

Beauty supreme! my Love Thou art;

Thyself Thou givest all to me.

Oh, take my heart, my yearning heart, -

Make of my life one act of love to Thee!

Canst Thou my worthlessness efface?

In heart like mine canst make Thy home?

Yes, love wins love, -O wondrous grace!

I love Thee, love Thee! Jesu, come!

Love that enkindleth me,

Pierce and inflame me;

Come, for I cry to Thee!

Come and be mine!

Thy love it urgeth me;

Fain would I ever be

Sunken and lost in Thee,

Furnace divine!

All pain borne for Thee

Changes to joy for me,

When my love flies to Thee,

Winged like the dove.

Heavenly Completeness,

Infinite Sweetness,

My soul possesseth Thee

Here, as above.

Heavenly Completeness,

Infinite Sweetness,

Naught else art Thou but Love!

This poem was written by Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus. She

was calling herself ―The Little Flower of Jesus‖. Her ―little

philosophy‖ was as simple as her life: just love Him!

One of Saint Teresa‘s favourite pictures

* * *

When your chest is free of your limiting ego,

Then you will see the ageless Beloved.

You can not see yourself without a mirror;

Look at the Beloved, He is the brightest mirror.

* * *

O Love, O pure deep Love, be here, be now,

Be all – worlds dissolve into your

stainless endless radiance,

Frail living leaves burn with your brighter

than cold stares –

Make me your servant, your breath, your core.

Love is the cure,

for your pain will keep giving birth to more pain

until your eyes constantly exhale love

as effortlessly as your body yields its scent.

These short verses were written by Persian mystic Rumi. He

perceived God as his Cosmic Beloved. Only one value existed for

him: pure, eternal Love.

THE ROSE OF JERICHO

his small desert plant is very often called the Christmas

plant. Legend says that when Mother Mary and Saint

Joseph fled from Bethlehem with baby Jesus, to avoid the

massacre of young children, they crossed the plains of

Jericho. When Mary alighted from the donkey on which she

was riding, this little flower sprang up at her feet to greet the

infant Savior whom she carried in her arms. Flowers sprang

up at all the places where the Holy Family rested during

their flight to Egypt.

All through the Christ's life on earth, the little rose of Jericho

continued to flourish, but when He died upon the Cross, all

these flowers withered and died away at the same time. But

three days later, our Lord rose again from the tomb, and at

the same time the roses of Jericho came to life again, and

blossomed as a sign of the joy of the earth because Christ had

risen. Because of these happenings, the rose of Jericho has

ever since also borne the name of the Resurrection flower.

The resurrection flower grows in the sands of Egypt, Arabia,

and Syria. When the flowers and leaves have died and fallen,

the drying branches curl inwards, forming a round ball; after

the roots die, the plant is blown around by the wind until it

lodges into a damp spot. The ball then expands again and

deposits its seeds, which germinate. Once watered, the dried-

up looking young plants soon begin to bud.

God is showing us through this little plant very significantly,

that even a few ―raindrops‖ of His grace are enough to

enliven the ―dried‖ Soul.

THE HEART OF CHRIST

od unceasingly keeps reminding us that all around us

is the Divine, that we are Divine and the whole of

creation is Divine, as the manifestation of Himself. However,

we have got used to being blind to His presence in this form

so much, that the miracles of love and life remain invisible to

us. We demand proof of His presence, so from time to time

he showers His mercy and performs phenomena, which

break our way of thinking. Those Divine interventions are

called ‗miracles‘.

One such miraculous

event occurred at the

beginning of 2009 in

Poland, during mass in

St Anthony‘s Church in

Sokółka. While the

priest was distributing

the Holy Communion to

the people, he dropped

one of the Hosts on the

floor. As the liturgical

procedure orders, it was

immediately put into a

pot with water to be

dissolved. However, after a couple of days the water became

red. Something else was discovered, what looked like a piece

of blood clot. Two independent doctors tested it and both of

them came to the same conclusion, it was a piece of human

heart tissue. As Jesus said: ―This is truly my body and this is

truly my blood.‖

May His grace showered at the beginning of the year

continue to accompany us. May we remember to look

beyond the visible and remind ourselves of His love and

presence.

MEDITATION

FROM SRI SWAMI V ISHWANANDA

it straight and straighten your spine. With your ears,

listen to your breathing. And with the mind, imagine

OM on your forehead. Listen to the beautiful melody of your

breathing. Let yourself be drawn deeper and deeper into it.

Your mind will think. Let it pass. Don‘t try to stop it. Don‘t

use force to stop it. Don‘t give any importance to it. Keep

your concentration on your breathing. Don‘t hear anything

else other than your breathing. To stop the mind, let‘s use it

now. Let‘s use it to imagine how God is looking at us.

Imagine yourself being God. Imagine the majesty, the

hugeness, the purity, the light. See your physical body full of

light. See your body radiating this light very brightly. There

is so much joy inside that is coming out from inside you. So

much happiness. Now imagine the people who surround you.

Look at all of them. See the same light in them. There‘s no

difference. Visualize the town where you are. Everybody‘s

radiating the same light. See your whole country radiating

light. Imagine the animal kingdom too. They also radiate the

same light. Imagine the plant kingdom. You see the same

light. See the ocean kingdom reflecting the same light. See

your whole continent full of light. See the whole world

reflecting this brilliant light. There is no disharmony. There

is no hate. There is just peace and love. The whole universe is

radiating this beautiful light.

And now reduce all this light to one central point, the heart.

See yourself with this light around that you have been

imagining. See all this light shrinking and entering one point

– the heart. In the heart, you will feel lots of warmness,

happiness and joy. Now start chanting OM.

HE IS NEAR

STUDENT ‘S EXPERIENCE

‘ve had close contact with Babaji on two occasions. The

first time was when He came to me in a dream as an

extremely marvelous, shining figure, which is very hard to

put into words. The second time was when He appeared in

my meditation about one month ago. For a long time I had

experienced hardships in my personal and professional life.

In addition, for months I had suffered from illness, lived in

permanent pain and met financial problems. As a result of all

of that, I started to escape from the spiritual sphere of life.

Daily spiritual practice, meditation and prayers became more

and more difficult.

Finally, I encountered the straw that broke the camel's back,

and started falling into the depths of darkness. I felt that after

many years I was falling again into the clutches of

depression, and that this time it wouldn‘t go away so easily.

However, when the situation was very bad and I felt

completely alone in the world, something was telling me:

stand up, rise one more time, you can do it, sit down, start

breathing calmly, try to think about God for a little while. So

I did. Although tears were flowing down my cheeks, my

throat was choked with pain and I didn‘t believe in the sense

of what I was doing, I started praying. Some time passed, I

have no idea how long, and then the marvelous figure of

Lord Babaji appeared to me – transparent, radiating

wonderful light. I felt I was not the same person any more. I

felt enormous love. This love slowly started filling each of

my cells. There was peace and realization that I was not

alone and never shall be. He will always be with me.

I believe that He is always with every one of us. Maybe He is

especially present when it seems that there is nothing. I

know that if He hadn‘t helped me, I wouldn‘t have managed.

It was a real miracle.

For me Babaji is Pure Love. Simply, the love which you want

to achieve. In the past I thought that the biggest happiness

came from being loved. Now I understand that actually it is

the opposite that brings you happiness, which is to love

others.

PRAYER BEFORE MEAL

A prayer before a meal is really important in the present

times, when it is so hard to find natural, organic food. Also,

the food that we eat becomes a part of our body, therefore it

can also affect our mind. This has been proven scientifically!

For example, people who eat meat are more aggressive than

vegetarians. So the quality of the food we are eating is really

important. By using a prayer, we can attain the best quality.

When we are offering the food to God in the first place, then

the whole act of eating becomes Divine – it becomes

sanctified by His presence. In the Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavan

Krishna teaches that our every act should be offered to the

Divine as a yagna – ancient fire ritual, which symbolizes

offering our prana (life-force energy) to the Eternal Source

of Life, God. Through this we are attaining perfection in our

deeds.

Sri Swami Vishwananda has taught his disciples a simple

prayer before a meal, which is based on two verses from the

Bhagavad Gita (IV.24 and XV.14):

Brahmarpanam Brahmahavir Brahmagnau Brahmanahutam

Brahmaiva Tena Gantavyam Brahma Karma Samadhina

Aham Vaishvanaro Bhutva Praninam Deham Ashritah

Pranapana Samayukta Panchamyanam Chaturvidam

Om Shantih Shantih Shantih

Sri Gurubhyo Namaha Harih OM

THE MEANING:

―(IV.24) The process of offering and the oblation itself – both

are Spirit. The fire and he who makes oblation into it are

other forms of Spirit. By realizing this, being absorbed in

Brahman (Spirit) during all activies, verily such a one goes to

Spirit alone. (XV.14) Having become Vaishvanara (fiery

power), I exist in the body of living creatures; and, acting

through prana and apana (two life force currents), I digest

food that is eaten in four ways.‖

- Sri Paramahansa Yogananda‘s translation (―God Talks With Arjuna‖,

Self-Realisation Fellowship)

A person near a village, while driving his horse carriage

slowly, was searching a water-reservoir because his horses

were very tired and thirsty. All of a sudden he saw a small

hut. In its courtyard, a ten or twelve year old boy was sitting.

Having seen the horses tired and thirsty from a distance, the

boy went into the hut and immediately brought back a

bucket full of water and stood by the roadside before the

carriage arrived. The coachman, having reached there,

stopped the carriage and asked the boy, ―What do you want?‖

The boy replied, ―I want nothing. I have come here to

provide water to your horses.‖ Having said so, he put the

bucket full of water before the horses. The horses drunk the

water and were satiated.

After that the coachman took out some silver coins from his

pocket, to give to the boy. The boy said, ―Sir! I have not

provided water for money. I am a poor lame boy. My mother

works in a field and earns our livelihood. My mother says to

me that whatever God does, He does only for our welfare. So,

if He made me lame, it must be for a good purpose. She has

asked me to provide water to the thirsty men and animals. It

is also a service to God, because within eight miles there is no

stream of water, nor a village. I liked my mother‘s suggestion

and so I started drawing water from the well to provide for

hungry men and animals. I regard it as God‘s work and as my

duty. I do not charge money for it.‖

When the coachman looked at the face of the boy, he saw in

it the radiance of beneficence and righteousness. Having seen

the good conduct of the boy, the coachman was very much

pleased and he began to think of God‘s Glory. After that the

coachman, encouraging the boy and thanking him, left from

there. The coachman learnt his lesson that when even a poor

and lame boy could be so generous and beneficent, without

any selfish motive, why couldn‘t he become generous and

beneficent like him. So, he also started doing good to others

selflessly.

What glory of beneficence!

Below we present you with an excerpt from

an interview with Dr. Amit Goswami, well

known quantuum physicist, who is a

pionieer of the new paradigm of science

called ―science within consciousness‖. He

has written a number of books about the

connection between consciousness and matter from a

scientific point of view, including Self Aware Universe,

Physics of the Soul, God is not Dead, and many others. In

this interview Goswami is talking about consciousness and

the role of the human being in the universe.

What do you say about the subtitle of your book: How

Consciousness Creates the Material World. This is

obviously quite a radical idea. Could you explain a bit

more concretely how this actually happens in your

opinion?

Amit Goswami: Actually, it‘s the easiest thing to explain,

because in quantum physics, as I said earlier, objects are not

seen as definite things, as we are used to seeing them.

Newton taught us that objects are definite things, they can be

seen all the time, moving in definite trajectories. Quantum

physics doesn‘t depict objects that way at all. In quantum

physics, objects are seen as possibilities, possibility waves.

Right? So then the question arises, what converts possibility

into actuality? Because, when we see, we only see actual

events. That‘s starting with us. When you see a chair, you see

an actual chair, you don‘t see a possible chair.

Right — I hope so.

Amit Goswami: We all hope so. Now this is called the

―quantum measurement paradox.‖ It is a paradox because

who are we to do this conversion? Because after all, in the

materialist paradigm we don‘t have any causal efficacy. We

are nothing but the brain, which is made up of atoms and

elementary particles. So how can a brain which is made up of

atoms and elementary particles convert a possibility wave

that it itself is? It itself is made up of the possibility waves of

atoms and elementary particles, so it cannot convert its own

possibility wave into actuality. This is called a paradox. Now

in the new view, consciousness is the ground of being. So

who converts possibility into actuality? Consciousness does,

because consciousness does not obey quantum physics.

Consciousness is not made of material. Consciousness is

transcendent. Do you see the paradigm-changing view right

here—how consciousness can be said to create the material

world? The material world of quantum physics is just

possibilities. It is consciousness, through the conversion of

possibility into actuality, that creates what we see manifest.

In other words, consciousness creates the manifest world.

So you feel there’s a kind of purposiveness to the way the

universe is evolving; that, in a sense, it reaches its

fruition in us, in human beings?

Amit Goswami: Well, human beings may not be the end of

it, but certainly they are the first fruition. Because here is

then the possibility of manifest creativity, creativity in the

sentient being itself. The animals are certainly sentient, but

they are not creative in the sense that we are. So, human

beings certainly right now seem to be an epitome, but this

may not be the final epitome. I think we have a long way to

go and there is a long evolution to occur yet.

In your book you even go so far as to suggest that the cosmos was created for our sake.

Amit Goswami: Absolutely. But it means sentient beings, for

the sake of all sentient beings. And the universe is us. That‘s

very clear. The universe is self-aware, but it is self-aware

through us. We are the meaning of the universe. We are not

the geographical center of the universe. Copernicus was right

about that, but we are the meaning center of the universe.

CHRISTMAS LOAF OR FRUIT CAKE

In Ayurveda unleavened bread and cakes with very little

baking powder are prefered instead of sourdough and yeast

bread, because it is better for the digestion.

100 gram dried apricots

150 gram raisins or sultanas (sweeter)

150 gram cranberries

400 ml apple juice

1 orange

2 soup spoons ginger, freshly rasped

100 gram walnuts

250 gram flour of spelt (fine grind, white or whole-

wheat)

50 gram or 100 gram sharkara (Ayurvedic sugar) or raw

sugar

100 gram almonds, rasped

10 gram of baking powder

1 teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon cardamom

just a trace of nutmeg powder and powder of cloves

50 – 100 gram pine nuts

Especially for a Christmas Fruit Loaf or Fruit Cake you can

add more ginger. Depending if you want it more like a bread

or like a cake, you put more or less sugar. Preferably, we use

sharkara, which is Ayurvedic sugar: 50 gram for a bread and

100 gram for a cake.

1. Cut dried apricots in small pieces and put it together with

the raisins and the cranberries into a big mixing bowl. Soak it

in the apple juice for 30 min. or longer until they are soft.

2. Mix the freshly rasped ginger and the rasped orange peel

into it. For a bread you put only half of the orange peel, for a

cake you add the whole. Add also the juice of a half orange.

3. Chop up the walnuts and brown it for a little while. Mix

them together with the spices, the rasped almonds, the flour

and the baking powder into the fruits. (See point 1 and 2)

4. Pour it in an approximately 30cm long rectangular baking

tin, which is covered with a greaseproof paper. Scatter out

the pine nuts and press it a little bit into the smoothed

surface of the dough.

5. Bake it in a preheated oven at 200° Celsius for 50 – 60

minutes. After 50 min, you take a little wooden rod to check

if the cake is baked.

Because this recipe does not contain any fat or animals

products, it is also convenient for vegetarians and for people

who like sweets but do not like to gain weight. For children

it is an ideal snack, because it is containing many minerals

and vitamins but little sugar. Wrapped in tin foil the fruit

loaf or cake keeps well for at least one week.

WARMING GINGER TEA

Ginger tea has a spicy, invigorating taste. It's used as a home

remedy for indigestion, nausea, and to ward off colds, flu,

and sore throats.

1 ginger root

1 teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon cardamom

honey

lemon

4 cups of water

Peel the ginger root and slice it into thin slices. Bring the

water to a boil in a saucepan. Once it is boiling, add the

ginger, cinnamon and cardamom. Cover it and reduce to a

simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain the tea. Add honey and

lemon to taste. You can add also a bit of raspberry sirup, if

you like.

Note: Keep in mind that if you are making ginger tea as a

home remedy during cold and flu season, sweeteners are not

recommended.
