In this weeks newsletter, I want to talk about assessment. At BSSD, as most schools, there are many ways in which we as educators seek feedback from students to gauge their learning and calibrate our teaching and curriculum. Internally, we use classroom based assessments which are traditionally teacher created and are directly related to the curriculum and lessons taught in the classroom content areas. We are starting a new assessment this year for all of our students in grades 2 through 10. The assessment will begin next week and is called MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing. MAP is a test of academic progress, meaning we can give the students an assessment now, and again in the Spring, and see exactly how much they progressed. It is given on the computer in the areas of reading, language usage, and math. This assessment provides the teacher, parent and our school with good data related to growth of student skills and abilities over time. You can read more about it at https://www.nwea.org/ and we will be hosting a parent session on MAP testing once the testing session is finished and the results are available. The testing starts next week. Have a great long weekend and thanks for letting us work with your children. Dustin Shipman

Dear Big Sky School District Community, Greetings from the superintendent's office. Counseling Corner:

October Character Trait- Inquire

Counseling Classroom Lessons will focus on respect and drug prevention. Don't forget, Red Ribbon Week is October 23-31st! Please talk to your children about living a drug-free life!!

Ms.Thomas is in the elementary building on Tuesdays and Thursdays and in the OMS/LPHS building on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. She may be reached via email at [email protected] or phone at 406-995-4281 (ask for Katy Thomas)

Original Works - Skis Please!

Be on the lookout for the 2015 Original Works order forms and artwork coming home on October 19th! Your children have created ski/snowboard-themed art images this year. This BSPTO fundraiser directly funds our winter ski program, which includes downhill and x-c ski instruction and transportation. The BSPTO spent over 19K last year on our ski days. The proceeds from ordering your child’s artwork will, in turn, fund this amazing opportunity that our children have to ski, snowboard and x-c in beautiful Big Sky! Please consider ordering for holiday pre-sents, thank you cards and unique keepsakes while also allowing the BSPTO to continue fund-ing our winter program!

BSSD Directory for 2015 - 16

If an opt-out is not recorded, this information will be dis-tributed via email to all BSSD families. If you have any
