THRILLING OLYMPIC MARATHON SWIMMINGQUALIFICATION IN SETÚBAL (POR)
A total of 122 swimmers (71 men, 51 women) representing 52 nations will be in Setúbal (POR) on June 1112, 2016 forthe Marathon Swimming Olympic Games Qualification Tournament, the last opportunity to be selected for the Rio 2016Games.
After the first phase of qualification, during the 2015 Kazan FINA World Championships, where the best 10 men and 10women in the 10km event got their ticket to Brazil, the Setúbal rendezvous will select the last 15 men and 15 women thatwill swim in the waters at the large of Copacabana beach.
The 10km Marathon Swimming event for men and women is included in the Olympic programme since 2008.
Among the many stars present in Setúbal (located 60km southern of Lisbon), the entry list includes Brian Ryckeman(BEL), Mireia Belmonte (ESP), KeriAnne Payne (GBR), Christian Reichert (GER), Gergely Gyurta (HUN), Chad Ho (RSA),Evgeny Drattsev (RUS), and Oussama Mellouli (TUN – winner of the competition in 2012 and then Olympic champion inLondon).
The current 10km world champions are, in the men’s field, Jordan Wilimovsky (USA), while the women’s winner in Kazan2015 was Aurélie Muller (FRA). Four years ago, at the London Olympic Games, the gold went to Mellouli in the men’scompetition and to Eva Risztov (HUN) in the women’s race.

Shanghai (CHN) is ready to host women’s WPWL Super Final IN THE SPOTLIGHT
The national teams of Australia, Brazil,Canada, China, Spain, Italy, Russia and USAare ready to compete in Shanghai (CHN)during the Super Final of the 2016 edition ofthe FINA Women’s Water Polo WorldLeague. The tournament will take place fromJune 712 and integrates the strongest teamsboth from the European preliminaries andthe Intercontinental tournament.
From the Old Continent, Spain, Italy andRussia led their qualification groups after thesix rounds of games, played in a home andaway basis. The remaining five nonEuropean squads were selected at theIntercontinental tournament – held inLewisville (USA) from February 1621, 2016.
The medallists of the 2015 edition, whoseSuper Final was also held in the OrientalSports Centre in Shanghai, were USA (gold),Australia (silver) and Netherlands (bronze).
The Super Final of this year’s is contested less than two months before the start ofthe Olympic tournament at the 2016 Rio Games, highlighted by the participation ofseven of the eight teams that will play in Shanghai: Hungary will be in Brazil, whileCanada did not make the Olympic qualification.

Development: Success is tangible at Thanyapura Centre Nine intensive months into the “FINA Targeting Rio 2016 – ScholarshipsProgramme”, Head Coach Miguel Angel Lopez, and other key staff working at theThanyapura Centre Thailand with the scholarship holders, produced the first tworeports of the year.
The evaluation reports, produced every two months, make an indepth individualanalysis of the athletes’ improvements and highlight their strength and weaknessesover several months.
Most of the young swimmers (16 in total) have secured a spot in the upcomingOlympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) in accordance with the universalityprinciple that is part of the Olympic Charter.
Athlete Sajan Prakash of India achieved a Bstandard time, while another one,Kimiko Raheem of Sri Lanka, was 0.2 second away of achieving it in the 50mfreestyle.
With very few determining months ahead of them, a series of events taking place inAsia will represent additional opportunities for the athletes to qualify with a Bstandard time for the Games. An example of an event which was recently held inShah Alam Selangor (MAS) was the 59th Malaysia Open SwimmingChampionships from 58 May.
Programme participants’ times’ evolution will be available on FINA website afterthe last qualifying opportunity.
