On the afternoon of Friday 4th October, parents of children in class one were invited into school for a stay and play session. This gave the children the opportunity to show their parents what they have learned so far and the adults were very impressed by all of the work which is already in their books. Parents were also given a tour of the classroom and shown what the children do during learning time.

Page 4 – School messages Key Stage One Agility

On Tuesday 8th October ten of our pupils took part in a key stage one agility competition at St Nicholas Primary School in Alcester. The children competed individually but it was our cumulative score as a team that was measured and compared to other schools. Overall we came fourth but a special mention must go to Joe who came first in the sprint and Poppy who came first in the bean bag throwing event. Mr Green and Mrs Cooke inform us everyone was brilliant, put maximum effort into every challenge and most importantly, competed at all times with fair play and an enormous smile on their face.

Page 5 – FOSM news FOSM Requests

Secrets Room At the Christmas Fair on Friday 13th December, FOSM is planning a secrets room where children can go and select a present for a parent or grandparent, gift wrap it and take it home to place under the tree ready for Christmas Day. No adults are allowed in this room! For lots of children, this is the first time they will have chosen a present for mum or dad all by themselves, which is a very exciting experience. Before any members of FOSM go shopping to purchase suitable gifts, they wondered if anyone had any unwanted gifts at home they could recycle? Toiletries, accessories, make-up, gift socks etc. Please hand any gifts in to the school office by Thursday 24th October. Thank you. Hampers

It’s that time of year again, when we need to create prizes for raffles and bingo. If anyone has any empty hampers, in any shape or size, that you are willing to donate to school, we can make good use of them. Perhaps you were a raffle winner in previous years at Christmas or Easter and still have the basket that you could return?

Calendar Photographs have taken place today. Thank you to all parents for sending in costumes and enormous thanks to Alexander’s dad, James, for giving up so much time to take the photographs.

Page 6 – School news Collective Worship

On Tuesday, David Harris from the Birmingham Diocese, came into school for Collective Worship sessions with each class. As part of the session, David gave each child a paper star on which they wrote the names of their loved ones. The stars, were then placed in a pool of water containing lit candles. As music played and the children quietly prayed for their loved ones, the stars unfolded into floating flowers. David also talked about Gerard Majella, Patron Saint of Expectant Mothers and Babies (and those wanting to become mothers), who is an inspiration to all children to live in the eyes of Jesus. His feast day is October 16th.

Page 7 – School news Blessed John Henry Newman

On Wednesday 9th October, all children from years 1-6 joined together with those of all our fellow diocesan schools as we prayed the Rosary together with a live stream from the Birmingham Diocese and Archbishop Bernard. This was in recognition of Blessed John Henry Newman who is being Canonised on Sunday. John Henry Newman was a theologian born in the nineteenth century. He died in Birmingham in 1890 and is the first Englishman to be made a Saint for centuries. Thank you to Father Damian and Foundation Governor, John Burke, for joining us in prayer.
