LATE TO SCHOOL

ABSENCES

OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION

An Old Boys Association meeting was held on Wednesday 3 July at the College which resulted in a committee being formed to take the OBA forward.

The committee members are: Peter Fuiava, Jason Mclennan , Daniel Schischka, Antony Schischka, Wen Wei Xie, Eddie Cooney, Nick Beresford, Roger Fuaaletoelau, Evan Backhouse-Smith and Willie Swann. The committee consists of Old Boys covering all year groups.

It was a small group who attended the meeting, which may have been due to some of the database postal addresses and email addresses being out-of-date. Please communicate with Lyanne Evans if information needs updating by emailing [email protected] and Lyanne will ensure that the changes are made. This will ensure you are advised of get-togethers and information on the Jubilee coming up next year!

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 20 August, 6.30pm in the Liston College Boardroom. All welcome.

Fable of the Hedgehog

It was the coldest winter ever. Many animals died because of the cold. The hedgehogs, realising the situation, decided to group together. This way they covered and protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest companions even though they gave off heat to each other. After a while, they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen. So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth. Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. This way they learned to live with the little wounds that were caused by the close relationship with their companion, but the most important part of it was the heat that came from the others. This way they were able to survive. The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, but the best is when each individual learns to live with the imperfections of others and can admire the other person's good qualities. Sounds easy, but I reckon that if we all practised that, we wouldn’t be grizzling about others so much and our lives would be a whole lot happier. Let’s try it! Blessings for today

The Liston and St Dominic Colleges Ball 2013, themed City of Lights, was definitely a night to remember for everyone who attended. The decorations looked exquisite, everyone was dressed at their finest, the music was ‘off the chain’ and not forgetting to mention the delicious food served! The night ran smoothly progressing from dinner to the dancing, to the ball awards and to the last song for the night. The night was filled with fun, laughter, dancing and glamour. It was a memorable night for everyone and a memory that we will cherish.

Liston Workday – Tuesday 17th September 2013

As part of the College’s continued effort to raise funds, we are asking for parents, students and friends of the College to involve themselves in the annual Liston College Workday. The funds raised for this project are targeted for the replacement of sunshades in the junior school courtyard.

Students are encouraged to seek work on the 17th September from 9:00am to 3:00pm or they may organise work on a weekend prior to this day. They are asked to donate the proceeds of their work to the school according to the following scale:

Years 7, 8 - $20.00 : Years 9, 10 - $25.00 : Years 11, 12, 13 - $30.00

Some suggestions for work to be considered: section clearing, painting, hedge trimming, window cleaning, lawn mowing, housework, factory cleaning, stock taking.

If there are families or friends in our Community who could offer jobs for our students or a group of students we will gladly supply workers for you.

You might want to purchase a personalised Gift Certificate on behalf of your son which would make an excellent present for family or friends.

Please contact Mrs. Simone Ryan if you can help with employment or would like to organise vouchers
