PB4L ‘BE ON TIME’ COMPETITION

Congratulations to students from class 8S. Their class was the winner of the ‘Be on Time” competition with the lowest number of students late to class. Their prize was a fun afternoon water sliding.

SCHOOL LOCKERS

At the end of the school year, a refund of $15 (if applicable) will be placed onto student accounts. This refund was the security bond held to ensure the locker was not damaged.

JUNIOR ENGLISH A major component of any child’s education is learning to read and write well. Our ability to comprehend texts impacts our lives on a regular basis. Job contracts, iPod manuals, road signs, emails and shopping lists all have one thing in common: we need to read to make sense of them. A major focus of the junior English programme is literacy, enhancing our skills in these key areas of reading and writing. In Term 1, the English department tested the reading comprehension of all junior students. Using the same test-parameters, we again tested students in Term 4, to monitor the progress they have made understanding what they read. Pleasingly, those who have applied themselves in class are progressing well. As the year nears its end, students are engaged in a range of fun activities – from creating short films or poetry anthologies, or competing in a speech competition. It has been uplifting to read/view/hear the fruits of students’ creative work.

OTAGO DIGITAL STRATEGY SURVEY - WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU

Central Otago District Council is one of five councils in the region (including Clutha District Council, Dunedin City Council, Waitaki District Council and Otago Regional Council) that have united to develop a Digital Strategy for the Otago region. Otago residents and businesses are being encouraged to participate in a survey aiming to assess the digital needs and challenges of the Otago region.

You can complete the survey online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/OtagoDigitalStrategy. Or for those who don’t have easy access to the internet hard copies of the survey will also be available from Council service centres and libraries.

To be successful we need to let as many people as possible know about the survey, including colleagues, friends, family and people in your network.

Results from the survey will be made available early in the New Year with a target to have the Otago Digital Strategy developed by March 2013.

Thanks for your assistance. Kind regards Andee Gale Business Analyst, Effectus Ltd www.effectus.co.nz
