Dear Parents,
I am in utter shock that we are here at the second last week of the school
year for 2017! One newsletter piece to go.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL 2017
Today we held our upper school swimming carnival. I want to emphasise
and share with you, just how much of a success this was.
As a part of our strategic plan 2017-2020, sport is a key driver and area of
focus. Our goal in 2017 was to increase the ‘expert involvement’ of
community (parents) in the delivery of key events. The swimming carnival(s)
has been the key target for 2017.
The open, willing and active preparation and partnership between key
‘experts’ has seen one of the best days I have ever experienced as a
primary school principal in terms of carnivals.
The Physical Education department, Mr Clarke-Okah and Mrs English, Staff
and teachers, parent volunteers, Georgie Parkes AND the expert influence,
preparation and coordination by Mrs Kelly Sedgman and Mrs Fiona Hynd has seen the delivery of a ‘crackerjack’
carnival.
I wish I could wrap up in words the pride I have in watching what has been achieved today. When the right
people work in partnership towards a clear goal....WOW! My deepest and warmest thanks to each and every one
of you – Adults through to students. A sensational day. Well done Ironside.
Student Behaviour Expectations
The high standards of both expected and demonstrated behaviour at Ironside State School continue up until the
last day. I completely understand that this is an exciting time of year where the focus begins to shift towards the
future.
I would appreciate any ‘dinner table’ conversation that reinforces the message that the Ironside Way is ‘in action’
right up until the time we break for holidays.
At Ironside we talk about being Ironside Stars.
S – Safe and responsible actions
T – Think positively
A – Active Learning
R - Respect for self and others
Thank you for your support in reinforcing the consistent messages at home.
All the best for the ‘final stretch’ of 2017!
Warm Regards,
Damian Johnson
Principal

the parents who helped serve refreshments and candles on the night – greatly appreciated.
Years 1 and 2 Swimming Carnival
I was very impressed with the standard of swimming at our Years 1 and 2 Swimming Carnival on Tuesday. The
students certainly enjoyed themselves competing in the various events.
Thanks to the parents for supporting the carnival.

Janice Ruddick

NEWS FROM MRS VECCHIO LIBRARY MONITORS
Congratulations to our hard-working Library Monitors whose dedication to their work help make our school
Library such as exciting and vibrant place. The following gives an insight into their role:
Being a library monitor is a rewarding experience for all, with parties, challenges and getting to know the library
from inside and out. The numerous jobs available include shelving books, using Alice and generally helping Mrs
Roche and others. Being a library monitor is also great for finding new books because, when someone returns
it, you shelve it and discover it’s a book you’ve wanted to borrow. Being a library monitor is an enjoyable
activity. With all its fun experiences, it’s an amazing program! (Written by Alex - 6D)
SWIMMING CARNIVAL RESCHEDULED
The Year 3/4 swimming carnival had to be postponed on Tuesday due to the potential impact of extreme
weather on the safety of students and adults. The swimming carnival has been rescheduled for Friday 1
December, with the timing of the program same as previously published. Click on this link for the
program.
We appreciate the understanding and flexibility of parents with this necessary change. The forecast is for
favourable weather on Friday … fingers crossed!
BOOK PACKS 2018
Reminder: Parents can order their book packs for next year on-line. Year 2 – 6 student
resource lists for 2018, as well as ordering options, are available on the Ironside school
web-site: Click on this link for the bookshop page.
ASSEMBLY WEEK 10
At assembly next week, we will be presenting tennis tournament trophies and the “Ironside Spirit”
award.

NEWS FROM MRS BAIRSTOW
HOUSE CAPTAINS, SEMESTER 1, 2018
Congratulations to the following students, who were this week voted by their peers to lead our four sporting
houses for the first semester of next year:
COOK OXLEY
Maia Mc Gemma Z
Ben S Tom J
FLINDERS STURT
Rose J Maddie S
Ralph B Anthony M
YEAR SIX (AND OTHER STUDENTS LEAVING IRONSIDE) LAPTOPS
Students who have their own ICALE laptop computers, and who are leaving Ironside at the end of this year
need to submit their machines to their teachers next week so that our IT department can reimage them with
the home operating system, removing anything EQ related from their machines.
The students will need to copy anything they wish to keep from their machines before it is reimaged.
Once it is reimaged, it should be taken home and left there. It will have no antivirus protection and should not
be used on the school network.
A word of wisdom is for families to arrange their own antivirus software as soon as possible.
LOST PROPERTY
All items that are not collected by the end of the school year will be donated or disposed of. Thank you to the
uniform shop volunteers for assisting in organising the racks last week. It is a huge job, and greatly appreciated.
YEAR SIX FAREWELL CELEBRATIONS
Next week is jam-packed with celebrations as our senior students move towards the next exciting chapter of
their learning journeys. Parents are encouraged to refer to the letter sent a couple of weeks ago that
summarises the busy time. Thank you to all of the parents who have been working so hard behind the scenes to
make this special time even more memorable for our students.
THANK YOU
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for a wonderful year, and wish you all a safe and
enjoyable holiday. Looking forward to working with you and your children again, throughout 2018.
Warm Regards,
Jennifer Bairstow
Deputy Principal
Congratulations Ironside
The Green Team would like to say a huge WELL DONE to the students and teachers of Ironside for doing
such a wonderful job recycling.
We have four recycling bins spread throughout the eating areas, staff room and tuckshop. We have been
filling these four recycling bins in one week, which means we require more recycling bins to last the
two-week cycle. So next year we will have four new bins making a total of eight bins for Ironside’s recycling.
Our new recycling/rubbish signs have been a huge success and helpful reminders for students when
disposing of their waste.
Remember to put food scraps in the red lid rubbish bin and your recycling in the yellow lid bin.
Wonderful Work Ironside, Keep it Up!!
