Newsletter #35 2019 11 October 2019
Dear Parents,
On Monday we formally said goodbye to our Matric class of 2019.
After five years at Camps Bay High School their time with us as pupils has come to an end. We traditionally mark this with a
formal ‘farewell’ Assembly. Due to our practise of maintaining the same tutor [Home room teacher] from Grade 8-12, the
tutors have a very close relationship with their pupils. This is seen at Valedictory Assembly when their classes are called up
to received their Matric Certificate from their tutors. Many fond farewells were said. The Matrics have been able to attend
classes this week and again on Monday, but from Tuesday, 15 October 2019 formal lessons for them will close. However,
they are most welcome to come to school during their class time and meet with their teachers on an ad hoc basis and as the
need arises. From next week they will be off on their formal ‘study week’. Here we expect them to be making their last
minute preparations for the lengthy Matric Exam sessions.
Security around the exams has been tightened up a lot since the days that you wrote Matric. Today each question paper
arrives in a sealed bag and locked with a ‘smart lock’. The code is sent to the lock on the morning of the exam and so the bag
cannot be opened early and also the wrong bag cannot be opened. If you see me wondering around our top car entrance
with a strange looking cell phone held up to the sky, I am trying to get our ‘smart lock’ opened to find the necessary satellite
signal.
We have worked so hard and so long with these Matrics to prepare them for these final exams. I know that they have all
they need to pass and do very well. The ball literally is now in their court. We wish them every success in these very
important exams.

MY SCHOOL CARD
My School card is an important monthly contributor of funds to our school. We would really encourage all parents to either
sign up for a card and make CBHS the beneficiary, and for those who have a card already please take a moment and change
the beneficiary to CBHS. Your actions will make a huge difference to our income from this initiative.
THE WEEK AHEAD:
Monday, 14 October 2019: Special Assembly to announce the new Head and Deputy Head Prefects.
Wednesday, 16 October 2019: Matrics write their final CAT practical exam.
Thursday, 17 October 2019: Mr Mostert and Mr de Korte depart for the ICP Conference in China.
For those who were following my surfing injury, I am happy to report that the operation to put in a plate went well and I am
at home recovering. I think I misjudged the post op pain I would experience and so on Monday I will see the surgeon and a
decision will be taken as to whether or not I can travel. Thank you for all the good wishes I have received.
Yours sincerely,
David de Korte
