NEWSLETTER #6 1 September 2020 Dear Colleagues Winter is over, and today is the first day of spring. I hope it brings us all some warm sunny days and blooming flowers! The good news for Victorians is that they are over halfway through their stage 4 restrictions, and the recorded number of daily cases of COVID-19 continues to fall, so there’s light at the end of the tunnel. In this newsletter I am pleased to announce that each Award Committee has a Chair and Deputy Chair, with the Deputy Chair taking on the full responsibilities as Chair in 2021: Teaching Awards Chair Professor Shirley Alexander, University of Technology Sydney Deputy Chair Professor Pip Pattison, The University of Sydney Program Awards Chair Professor Kerri-Lee Krause, The University of Melbourne Deputy Chair Professor David Sadler, The University of Western Australia Citations Chair Professor Denise Kirkpatrick, Western Sydney University Deputy Chair Professor Philippa Levy, The University of Adelaide For those of you that follow me on twitter (@ProfAngeCarbone) you will have noticed that 2020 AAUT nominee registration is now open. We have had a promising 264 assessors' expressions of interest to date, which is a 32% increase from last year’s numbers. My team and I are looking forward to receiving your institution’s nominations. More good news, to further recognising the incredible efforts of the academics’ contribution to the sector, Universities Australia is reinstating the Career Achievement Award. This award is occasionally awarded to one or more individuals whose career achievements in learning and teaching in higher education have had a major influence and left an enduring legacy. Finally, although the 2021 AAUT Ceremony will be held on Wednesday 2 nd June 2021, Universities Australia will formally announce the recipients at the end of February 2021. More details to come.
