Dear Parents and Caregivers What a fantastic Quiz Night!! I hope you were able to make it and enjoy such a great fundraiser and community night. The feedback has been marvellous and it was clear on the night how much everyone was enjoying themselves. These things do not happen by chance and the preparation, organisation, dedication and contributions of so many people make this the success it is. Many thanks to Sheree Horton and the team from the PTA for the countless hours you put in. No matter what role or part you played thankyou it is so appreciated. Walking into the Action centre this morning one would hardly have known it had been transformed into a representation of our theme for this year Around the World. The clean-up at the end is often the trickiest to get support for especially after a long night so a huge well done and thanks to those who came along to do this. As we mentioned in previous weeks this year’s funding is to support playground maintenance and development and I am sure with the money raised we can make a real difference. Once the final totals are known we will publish this for you. As a part of the Te Puke Ka Hui Ako (Community of Learning – COL) the schools are being asked to look at our cultural relationship and responsiveness. It is hoped to gain an insight Te Puke wide at just how various stakeholder groups feel about this. It will include all parents, students, teachers having the chance to offer a view. This will then be collated and the outcomes used to help engage and ensure educational success for all groups, including those not succeeding or at risk of not succeeding. Many of you may read this and wonder what cultural responsiveness is. In short, I believe it is about acknowledging and embracing all cultures, understanding more about them and working to ensure our practices respect and honour them no matter where they may be from. Naturally, the major focus for New Zealand is around our nations cultural Understanding of our own indigenous people. This is a particularly relevant context for Te Puke and the COL hope focus on this will see an increase in success for all in an educational context and this has to be a good thing. Have a fantastic week. I don’t think we are over the poor weather and certainly we have been seeing some winter related sickness about school. Keep warm and remember if your child is sick do let us know. For vomiting it is important to remember children need to stay home for 48 hours and not come back to school as soon as the vomiting stops as the bug will still be active in their system. Yours in teaching Craig Haggo, Principal.

This week’s Enviro Tip: Try not to use your dryer too much. Use the washing line or

hang clothes by the fire to save on power.

A special thank you to Mike Harmon, John Judson and Len Gillgren from the Te Puke Menz Shed who

have braved the cold today to erect our new Enviro Shed at the school.

Their support and time has been very much appreciated.
