Principals Update 

Welcome to Week 8. 

 

Just a final shout out to Parents who can assist at the show this weekend. An hour of your  me would be very much 

appreciated by the P and C and of course by our students who benefit from the funds raised. This is by far the biggest 

fundraiser for the year. If you can assist in any way please contact Jodie Dull on 0429 427 777 or Craig Bacchi on 0407 882 

608. An alterna ve is if you visit the show on the weekend, find yourself with a spare hour head to the dining hall, and offer 

your assistance the P and C will welcome your support. 

 

Of interest to Parents also this week is the opportunity to a end a seminar at the school called physical ac vity and exercise 

for families. This is conducted by an Exercise Physiologist and designed to support families in their pursuit of healthier 

lifestyles. The seminar will take place at 3.15 Thursday 7th June at the school. All parents are welcome and is a follow on from 

the Nutri on and Healthy lunchboxes seminar held on Tuesday the 5th June.  

 

There is also informa on in this newsle er regarding the High Schools Musical. Our students have been invited to a end. The 

cost is $7 per student, and will be at 12 noon on Thursday 14th June. All years are catered for. Students will be walked to the 

theatre from school at 11.45 for a 12 noon start. A note will be sent home this week seeking permission for your students to 

a end details regarding the return of payment. 

 

In the coming weeks the school will be conduc ng a fire drill procedure. This is cri cal to ensure that all students and staff are 

aware of the procedure in case of a real life emergency. Due to our proximity to the main highway, we are going to simulate a 

truck roll over and dangerous chemical spill. In a normal fire drill procedure, students would be evacuated to the oval for their 

safety. In this instance students will be evacuated to McConnel Park, of course in a real scenario the wind direc on will 

dictate the assembly point and be guided as well by emergency responders. Students will be taught this procedure in their 

PBL lessons next week. 

 

Finally, I was relieved of my Principal du es last week for 15 minutes by Dusty Düll. Dusty was a great help, he signed some 

budget documents, dealt with some behaviour issues (me) and made some posi ve sugges ons about the future of our 

school. Dusty chose this reward as part of his Gotcha, reward selec on. Photos of Dusty are posted on our face book page.

Bailey Hughes This year, Bailey has set a number of learning goals for himself and has con nued to smash each and every one of them. His commitment to his learning is not only a wonderful example to his fellow classmates but is making a difference to his academic achievement. This is par cularly evident in his reading with his PM level jumping up over 5 levels in one semester! Not only has his reading accuracy increased but his comprehension has become more detailed.  

Bailey contributes to all classroom ac vi es and ac vely par cipates in our conversa ons. He is a pleasure to teach and should be very proud of all that he has achieved so far this year. I look forward to seeing what the rest of the year brings! Well done Bails! 

Issue 4 Book Club Issue 4 Book Club brochures have been sent home with students. Orders are due back by Friday 15th June 2018. Book Club orders can be made using the Scholas c  LOOP Pla orm on the Scholas c Website .   If you are not using LOOP, please place the order in an envelope marked with your child’s name and class and hand it in to the school office and we will process the order for you.  Please make cheques payable to Toogoolawah State School P & C.

TOOGOOLAWAH SHOW Poster Competition

Congratula ons to the following students who were the winners of the school show poster compe on.  These students have 

received a book prize from the library.  All the posters for the show compe on have been forwarded to the Show Society for 

judging.  Make sure you look for your poster when you visit the Toogoolawah Show. 

Toogoolawah Show Visit This Friday 8th June, students will be visi ng our local show.  Students will be travelling by bus to and from the show.   

This visit will have an educa onal focus. Students will view the display of class work and the various agricultural areas. Students will not require any addi onal money—no purchases will be made. 

Please note the following details:  If you wish your child to a end this event, please ensure you have returned the permission note and have paid for the bus by Thursday 7th June, otherwise they will remain at school under supervision undertaking school lessons. 

COST: $2.00   TIME: Classes will travel by bus at staggered  mes.  The first bus will leave school at 1:30pm.   

RETURN TO SCHOOL: All students will be returned to school in  me to catch buses etc. 

    

IMPORTANT INFORMATION Parents are asked to please send a note to your child’s teacher if you are planning to collect your child from the show a er the visit as they will need to take their school bags with them on the bus.   Students can be collected at approximately 2:30pm from the area where the buses are parked.  

 Students who are not collected by a parent before this  me will travel back to the school on the bus.

P & C NEWS—Toogoolawah Show A desperate call for volunteers!!! The P&C is calling for help this Friday & Saturday at the show canteen. This is our school’s biggest 

fundraising event of the year. Last year we raised over $6500 which has funded things such as the soccer 

goal posts. At present we don’t have enough volunteer to help run the canteen.  Please, please, please ask, 

beg & plead with as many people as you can to help volunteer to make this a success!   We need your 

help!!! Call Jodie Düll 0429427777 to volunteer. 

Year 4/5

Excursion to Parliament House and Commissariat Year 4/5 were lucky enough to visit Parliament house in Brisbane last Wednesday where we got to meet the leader of the opposi on party Ms Deb Frecklington. At the end of her discussion with our class Grace decided that she might like to become a poli cian herself. We then went on a guided tour through Parliament House and learnt about the Lower and Upper house and what happens there. 

We also learnt that Australia is a Cons tu onal Monarchy , which means that we are a democracy and get to elect our prime minister and the governor general represents the queen. The Governor General is called Cosgrove. Ms Colgrove likes to joke that its not as good a name as Colgrove, however, he is a very important member of our government and essen ally represents the queen. 

We then went to the Commissariat where we learnt about our convict and early se ler history, which was really fascina ng. 

All in all it was an ac on packed and fun filled day and quite a few of us fell asleep on the way home to Toogoolawah.
