We are almost there in our efforts to raise sufficient funds to break ground on our new classroom building! As previously announced, a family has offered a challenge match for our capital campaign. For every new or additional pledge dollar received by April 30, this donor will match it, dollar for dollar up to $400,000. To date, we have raised $328,000 towards this $400,000 match. A total of $72,000 in final pledges is needed in order to break ground. If we can match the $400,000 by April 30, we will have met our goal, and in early May we will break ground on the new building with plans to complete the building in approximately six months. Please prayerfully consider your participation in this campaign by taking advantage of this matching offer, by Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Note: all pledges may be made payable over three years. Should you so desire, monthly debits may be made directly from your checking account via FACTS. The Star Spangled Banner

On Wednesday, April 24 lower school students welcomed Lieutenant Colonel Brent Vander Pol to chapel. Colonel Vander Pol shared with the students some interesting facts about our national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner. Did you know that the flag flying over Fort McHenry measured 30 feet high? Did you know that the song was written while Francis Scott Key, a lawyer, was on a British truce ship to negotiate the release of an American prisoner during the War of 1812? Mr. Key watched from the ship as the British Navy unleashed a barrage of cannon fire on Fort McHenry for 25 straight hours. Throughout the night as the exploding cannon shells lit up dark sky, Key kept his eyes on the huge flag flying above the fort. When the smoke cleared, he stood on the deck of the ship in awe that the British cannons failed to do any significant damage to the fort and that our flag was still there. Key was so moved that he penned the lyrics to what we now know as The Star Spangled Banner. Colonel Vander Pol, a member of the Air Force who has served in Afghanistan, presented special American and Texas flags to The Woodlands Christian Academy. These flags were flown on July 4, 2012 by the 970th

Expeditionary Airborne Control Squadron through the hostile skies over Afghanistan on an Operation Enduring Freedom combat mission. The flags will be on permanent display in our new classroom building. We offer our sincere thanks to Colonel Vander Pol and all the men and women of our armed forces for their dedication and devotion to defending the United States of America.

Lower school art students recently enjoyed creating art in a very unique way. They used a variety of foods to create edible portraits. What a delightful and delicious way to learn about art!

Band Hits The Right Note At Competitions

The high school band travelled to New Orleans April 19-21 for the Heritage Festival competiton. The event features both public and private schools from as far away as Pennsylvania. The Woodlands Christian Academy band received the highest score of any of the bands regardless of class (i.e. school size). In the three years the band has participated in competitions hosted by the Heritage Festival, this was the first time the band earned such a high honor. Our chaperones were awesome! Many thanks to Mr. Eric Owens, Mrs. Shannon Regier, Mrs. Michelle Hanigan, Mrs. Gwen Scott, and Ms. Amy Milian who were all a great help and made the trip run very smoothly. In the TAPPS state competition, Woodlands Christian was represented by the woodwind trio (Summer Wheeler, Alex Yanochik and Katie Albertson), and Chelsea Ledbetter who performed a mallet solo. Both representatives earned a II (based on a I-IV scoring system with I being the best). While they did not earn the highest score, this was be the first group of band students to compete at the state level which is a feat in itself.
