Morley Memorial Primary School ‘Making Learning Irresistible’ Autumn 2019 Newsletter Pick Up and Drop Off For parents new to the school—You can say farewell to your child at the main black gates from 8.40—8.50 as there will be staff on duty both in the playground and also on the main black gate. There is no requirement for you to come into the play- ground with your child as this area is safe and secure. For some children a pro- longed farewell can even be distressing so please do not feel you need to wait with your child in the morning. especially KS2. It can get quite busy in there! If you need to speak to a teacher you are of course welcome to come into the play- ground with your child or alternatively speak to the teacher when you collect at the end of the day. Welcome to the start of a new school year. I hope you all had a lovely holiday and whether you are new to the school this year or are a returning family we look forward to working with you this year. Newsletters are our primary way of communicating important information, as well as keeping you up to date on what’s happening in school. As a head I under- stand the mountains of emails one often has to wade through and the newsletter is just one more but please set aside 5 minutes each week to look at the newsletter— that way we can be sure that no-one misses important information about school events and their child’s school experiences. The calendar on the school website changes on a weekly basis with new events added. As a result of your feedback we have been working hard to ensure that the calendar is as up to date as possible so please do check it. All whole school events, trips, parent evening dates etc will be posted on the calendar instead of being listed in the newsletter. Clicking on the link in the ‘Dates for your diary’ section will take you to the website calendar. Looking forward to this new academic year we will be continuing our ‘ maths mas- tery’ journey and we will be using Ms McGreer’s expertise as a maths mastery lead teacher to further develop teaching and learning in maths. We will also be continuing our work on Visible Learning and focussing particularly on developing children’s capacity to take greater responsibility for their progress by using their learning dispositions of curiosity, resilience, collaboration, motivation, courage and reflection and being able to talk about what they are learning, how well it is going and what they need to do next in order to progress. For parents interested in finding out more we will be running some parent sessions on Visible learning and Maths Mastery later this year. Nikki Brown

There is no requirement for you to come into the play-ground with your child as this area is safe and secure. Welcome to the start of a new school year. I hope you all had a lovely holiday and whether you are new to the school this year or are a returning family we look forward to working with you this year.

Newsletters are our primary way of communicating important information, as well as keeping you up to date on what’s happening in school. As a head I under-stand the mountains of emails one often has to wade through and the newsletter is just one more but please set aside 5 minutes each week to look at the newsletter—that way we can be sure that no-one misses important information about school events and their child’s school experiences. Snacks and packed lunches With many children starting packed lunches for the first time this year we are politely reminding all parents that as we have a number of children in school with serious nut allergies please refrain form putting nuts or nut based products such as peanut butter in packed lunches. Children in KS2 may bring a piece fruit or healthy vegetable snack but no crisps, chocolate bars, sweets etc please.

PE kit

All children will need to bring in their new PE kit ready for PE lessons. The PE kit of plain white T-shirt, navy PE shorts, plimsolls, (navy jogging bottoms and navy sweatshirts for winter months) should be labelled and brought to school in a blue drawstring bag. The office have a limited amount of bags available at £3.00 or plain blue drawstring bags can be purchased at most supermarkets or uniform suppliers. Children should not bring in PE kit in rucksacks or other bulky bags as there is not room on the pegs. Thank you.

Year 2 WoW day
