Skills for Care is urging everyone to get involved this Care Home Open Day as care homes throw
open their doors.
On June 16 2017 thousands of care homes across the country will be inviting local people to tuck
into a ‘Big Lunch’ or take part in fun activities with the people who live and work there.
The annual event helps people find out more about their local care home and the work being done
there and gives care homes the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with the local
community.

For all new apprenticeship starts from 1 May 2017, you must make sure you have completed the
‘Apprenticeship contract type’ (ACT) field in the ILR. You must record an ACT otherwise this will
fail validation; record code ‘ACT1’ for levy contracted apprenticeships and ‘ACT2’ for non-levy
contracted apprenticeships.
To receive payment for levy contracted apprentices there must be a matching record in the
apprenticeship service, and this must be fully approved by you and the employer you are working
with. You can easily check which apprentices are fully approved by looking at the apprenticeship
data match report on the Hub. This will highlight any apprentices that are not fully approved. The
deadline to correct any errors for apprentices due to be included in the June payment is Tue 6 June

Equality and Diversity Forum invites you to help co-create a learning programme
They are developing an Equality and Human Rights Framework: a free digital tool and learning
programme for voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations.
It’s designed to explore how equality and human rights can help achieve your organisation’s core

The Government is now recommending that Selection Questionnaires (SQs) be removed for low-
value contracts (under £106,047 for Central Government and under £164,176 for Sub-Central
Government), meaning that there has never been a better time for SMEs to get involved in public
sector tendering. Nonetheless, there are significant obstacles to avoid when tendering

needs, lured in by a pertinent keyword or a high contract value. Before running any searches, it is
vital to take a step back and reflect on what your business is capable of providing. By finding
contracts that are more suitable, you will not only improve your chances of winning but also, in time,
your win ratio. It will also be more cost-effective, less resource-heavy and, ultimately, save time and
reduce expense.
2. Collaborate for a Stronger Bid
If your organisation is eager to get bidding, but has identified limitations in relation to relevant skills,
experience and/or knowledge, you could consider the option of strengthening your bid by
collaborating with another similar-sized company. A lot of businesses are extremely reluctant to take
up this ‘tendering tip’, but winning a share of an opportunity is much more advantageous than losing
out altogether. It is not at all unusual, nor is it frowned upon, to say you are bidding as part of a
consortium, and it can ultimately increase your chances of winning more business.
3. Put yourself in the Buyer’s Shoes
Focus on what they are looking for. Consider what added value you can offer that could benefit the
buyer – this might not be mentioned within the contract notice but could give you a crucial edge
over your competitors. It is vital to make sure you meet the initially stated core standards and
requirements before demonstrating the ‘added value’. When writing the proposal, you should
always keep the buyer in mind – consider their needs and wants. Ask how you can solve any
problems they may have, and explain your skills, products and experience that can help to fulfil their
specified requirements.
Consider your competitors too when writing the proposal. Try to comprehend what your
competitors can offer and ensure that you can demonstrate greater value for money. Make the
buyer aware that you have done your research – prove to them that you can manage any
unexpected risks, for example financial, commercial or legal threats that could lead to the failure of
the contract.
4. Triple-Check Everything!
At any given opportunity, always get someone else to proofread your proposal. It is easy to get
tunnel vision and miss the occasional spelling mistake or even question (especially on an electronic
tendering system). Ultimately, a fresh pair of eyes or an outsider’s perspective can help reduce
mistakes, ensuring that your proposal makes complete sense to an individual who may not
necessarily know your organisation.
Mistakes look extremely unprofessional, and when dealing with major contracts typos are a definite
‘no-no’. Be aware too that the information contained in your tender may be disclosed in the future
under the Freedom of Information Act. You should state clearly any information which you consider
to be commercially confidential, and ask the authority to contact you before they consider any
request for its disclosure.

5. Submit Your Proposal on Time
A deadline is set for a reason. Most organisations will refuse to consider a tender that has been
submitted after the stated deadline, even if you miss the closing date/time by a matter of minutes.
You have to be prompt and professional. Leave time too for any possible technical hitches when
submitting documentation electronically. If you do miss the deadline and still want to be considered
– in the event a problem arises during the evaluation and the tender is reissued – you can make sure
the purchaser is aware of your interest by reapplying for the tender.
6. Finally – Learn From Your Mistakes
If you are unsuccessful, make sure you ask for feedback to help understand where you fell short.
Don’t lose heart… a good target success rate for any organisation is one in three, so you have to
accept that being unsuccessful on some occasions is not unusual. Feedback will allow you to pick
yourself up and make improvements. You can learn a lot from this exercise and it can aid your
organisation when positioning yourself against your competitors and improve your bid for the next
time.

The Staffroom is an innovative online approach towards continuous professional development (CPD)
for anyone working in the education sector.
The site is built around the best practice approach to CPD of reflection, planning, action and
evaluation in a continuous improvement cycle and members are given their own personal CPD
dashboard where they can complete self-assessments and plan their activities in their personal CPD
journal.
We offer news and resources on the site and now have over 2000 articles, videos and resources
providing a unique and useful library for our members. New articles and publications are upload
every week day searching out items of interest and importance to the various sectors.
We encourage our members to share and upload their resources onto the site to share best practice

How does it work?
Individual members are able to log in and access their personal CPD dashboard and complete
specially designed self-assessments. The CPD journal encourages members to reflect on individual

The system is based on a best practice approach of completing 60 hours a year for full time
members of staff which is divided into points either 240 or 30 hours for part timers who should

About the fund Homeless Link has £4.5m to invest over the next 3 years.
This event will launch Homeless Link's £4.5m Social Investment Fund, aimed at transforming how
homelessness services are delivered. 19th of June
The aim of this fund is to transform the way homelessness services are delivered. It is looking to
support organisations to:
increase the homelessness sector's knowledge and experience of social investment
develop new models for income generation and funding
improve long-term sustainability of charities and social enterprises across England working
to reduce homelessness.
This fund will focus on the potential that smaller unsecured loans can have on creating change. The
loans will be between £25,000 and £150,000.

Big Potential, a Big Lottery Fund grant fund will deliver approximately £20m of grant funding over

Breakthrough Grants of between £20,000 and £75,000 for specialist business support to help raise
new repayable investment of up to £500,000.
Advanced Grants of up to £150,000 for specialist business support to help raise new repayable
investment above £500,000 or to help win contracts worth above £1million.
Fully Supported Diagnostic Service – including a helpful online tool and an in-depth 1:1 session with
an expert advisor if you apply for a Breakthrough grant.

BREAKTHROUGH
Big Potential Breakthrough is suited for VCSE organisations based and operating in England on the
beginning of a journey towards securing investment, who are looking to develop a more sustainable
funding model and be less dependent on grants but require support to do this. Applicants are
expected to have existing products or services that could support taking on repayable finance.
They will be able to access specialist one to one support from the Big Potential programme partners
before making an application for a grant to undertake more in-depth investment readiness work
with one of Big Potential’s approved providers.
There are two different types of Breakthrough grant; Preliminary Grants and Investment Plan
Grants.
Preliminary Grants are available to VCSEs at the initial stage of their social investment journey that
are yet to determine what type of social investment will be appropriate for their needs. VCSEs can
apply from between £20,000 to £30,000. Investment Plan Grants are available to VCSEs that already
have a social investment proposition and know what the deal might look like. VCSEs can apply
for between £40,000 to £50,000.
VCSEs can apply for both types of grant but we would not expect any one organisation to receive
more than £75,000 in total.
ADVANCED
Big Potential Advanced is available to VCSEs based and operating in England that are clear about
how social investment could work for them and can describe a potential deal or interest from
investors and need help to close that deal. The Advanced route is also available to organisations that
need help securing a contract of at least £1m. Grants of between £50,000 and £150,000 are
available.

The Samaritans are looking for a Project Officer- Prisons [£28,000 pro rata, Surrey, part time] to
support the delivery of a programme of work on a part time basis ensuring a high quality and
consistent approach to running Listener Schemes in prisons. The successful candidate will lead on
specific projects relating to the development and improvement of the Listener Scheme. The role will

EDUCATION professionals and training providers from all over the country have been discussing
challenges and opportunities facing the sector.
More than 40 training providers came together for a Peer MeetUp session at the offices of
Birmingham based training provider The Pathway Group.
The Peer MeetUp is an initiative by Pathway2Grow and attendance is restricted to professionals
within the sector.
It was sponsored by of the ICQ Awarding Body that sponsored the event and topics discussed
included the Apprenticeship Levy, Cyber Security and the role of schools in promoting
apprenticeships.
The workshop was told about concerns of a reduction in the number of training providers and the
number of warnings issued by the Education and Skills Funding Agency for breaching minimum
standards in apprenticeship training.
“Peer Meet Up is different from traditional networking in that it is not a public event and is open to
invitees from the sector who can learn from each other and explore ways to collaborate,” said
Safaraz Ali, the founder of the initiative.
“The Training sector is going through a period of major change and many aspects of the future
remain unclear. Therefore, providing a support group can be very useful.”
At the Birmingham event questions were asked about the opportunities for partnering, the impact of
the apprenticeship levy and other sources of funding.
It is intended at that Peer MeetUp sessions will take place several times a year. Events have been
held in London and now in Birmingham with plans for future events in Sheffield.
There have been five meetings of the group in London and the next is scheduled to take place in
July.

The AEB aims to engage adults and provide the skills and learning they need to equip them for work,
an apprenticeship or other learning. It enables more flexible tailored programmes of learning to be
made available, which may not require a qualification. This will help those furthest from learning or
the workplace. For learners with a legal entitlement, we think it right that government specify the
qualification offer available.
Eligible qualifications which can be delivered as part of the Level 2, Level 3 and English and maths
provision, will fall under the Legal Entitlement allocation. We continue to expect providers to work
with a range of local partners and stakeholders to ensure that the local learning offer meets local
needs.

Funding to Support Education in Disadvantaged Areas (UK)
Grants are available to support schools and registered charities that wish to undertake educational
work with children and young people in disadvantaged areas. The British & Foreign Schools Society
(BFSS) normally makes grants for educational projects totalling about £600,000 in any one year.
The majority (85% of grants) are made to charities and educational bodies (with charitable status).
Schools wishing to apply need to have either charitable status or "exempt charity" status.
Previous projects supported include A grant of £10,000 to the Bloomfield Learning Centre. The
Centre assesses and teaches 6 to 16 year olds with specific learning difficulties from areas of socio
economic disadvantage in London specially Southwark, Lambeth, Islington, Camden and Greenwich;
and a grant of £5,000 to the Lyric Hammersmith to support a programme of work for schools in
West London to enable disadvantaged children to engage in regular cultural activity.

The Peoples Health Trust's Active Communities programme Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Neath Port

the 21st June 2017.
Grants of between £5,000 and £25,000 per year are available for projects target areas or
communities (including communities of interest ) most affected by health inequalities. For example,
this could be a project covering a few streets, a housing estate; a small village or a group of people
who have shared experiences, characteristics or common interests and wish to come together to
address specific issues that are important to them.
Groups can apply if they are non-profit, have a constitution and are more than three months old and
the group's income must be less than £350,000 a year, or an average of £350,000 over two years.
Activities supported through the Active Communities programme in the past have included a
mediation service run by tenants on a housing estate; a women's volunteering group run by and for
Bengali women; support for local people to become community organisers.

BBC Children in Need Main Grant Programme (UK)
The next closing date for applications to the BBC Children in Need Main Grants programme is the 1st
September 2017.
Grants of over £10,000 per project are available to not for profit organisations and schools that work
with young people who are experiencing disadvantage through: illness, distress, abuse or neglect;
any kind of disability; behavioural or psychological difficulties; and / or living in poverty or situations
of deprivation. Schools can also apply for funding but the project must be additional to their
statutory duties.
Examples of projects that recently received funding include St Joseph's School and Community
Steering Group, which received a grant of £61,480 to provide an after school and holiday clubs to
engage disadvantaged young people living in Workington in physical and healthy living activity;
Stepping Stones Pre School Portslade, which received a grant of £ £9,397 to provide additional 1-1
support to children who display emotional/behavioural/communication difficulties to develop
coping strategies, social communication skills and help them to overcome anxiety; and Cumbria Law
Centre which received a grant of £88,263 to provide a full time worker for a young people's drop in
centre, offering specialist social welfare advice to young people and vulnerable parents.

varying levels for the House of Commons and House of Lords staff (The House staff). This is mainly

Apply for up to £500,000 for Heritage Projects that Deliver Social and Economic Benefits (Wales)
The Great Place Scheme, which is designed to pilot new approaches that enable cultural and
community groups to work together for the social and economic benefit of local communities has
opened for applications in Wales.
Heritage and cultural organisations in partnership with organisations in other sectors can apply for
grants of between £100,000 and £500,000 for activity to be delivered over a period of up to three
years. This might be across more than one council area, or a single local authority area; a city or
town and its hinterland; a grouping of rural towns / villages; etc. Boundaries need not be contiguous
or administrative.
The Great Place Scheme will invest in between five and eight places across Wales.
Applicants will need to make a 10% cash contribution to the project.

Coca-Cola Thank You Fund Opens for Applications (ROI & Northern Ireland)
The Thank You Fund is back for 2017 with a total of €100,000 to give to projects across the Republic

The Big Lottery Fund

NFU Mutual Charitable Trust (UK)
The NFU Mutual Charitable Trust, which supports charities in the UK working in agriculture, rural

Power to Change will be awarding grants between £50,000- £300,000 to support and develop local
community businesses in England that work for the benefit of the local community.
To be eligible for funding applicants need to be incorporated (rather than as a collection of
individuals) and funding will be available for both capital and revenue costs.
Previous projects supported include Bristol Ferry Boats who were awarded £247,875. Bristol Ferry
Boats are a Community Benefit Company with 900 shareholders. As well as running commercial trips
for commuters and parties boat trips are used to support the curriculum for local schools and share
Bristol's history. The funding will help purchase a new environmentally friendly boat and support a
series of trainee/staff pilots from the community and discounted fares for older and vulnerable
residents.

Young Europeans Award 2018 (UK)
Young Europeans Award is inviting all pupils interested in European issues to take part in a free to
enter competition to win a trip to Warsaw. The Young Europeans aims to encourage dialogue and
exchange between young people in the 'Weimar Triangle' countries - Germany, France and Poland.
For the 2017-18 round, the UK has been invited to take part as a guest country. Teams of young
people from UK schools are invited to enter the competition (with support from their school) in
groups of 6+ by sending in a collaborative creative project of their choice addressing the statement:
'To be or not to be...a European'.
To take part, pupils must be aged under 21 and should enter in teams of a minimum of 6-8 - two
from the UK and at least two from France, Germany and Poland. UK schools with an existing partner
school in one of the countries involved are particularly encouraged to take part in collaboration with
new project partners in the remaining countries.
To find a school, class or group to partner with, teachers and pupils can use the online partner-
finding services provided by the German-French (DFJW) and the German-Polish Youth Office (DPJW).

Design & Delivery of a Multi-professional Liaison Mental Health Training Programm
The Five Year Forward View for Mental Health states that by 2020/21 no acute hospital is to be
without all-age mental health liaison services in emergency departments and inpatient wards, and at
least 50 per cent of acute hospitals should meet the 'Core 24' service standard as a minimum.
Health Education England Working across the Northwest in collaboration with NHS England and the
North West Coast Strategic Clinical Networks are looking to engage with training providers with the
ability to provide high quality and innovative multi-professional clinical skills training. This training
will be aimed at mental health professionals working in liaison mental services in acute hospital
settings.
Training providers will be required to build effective collaboration with local clinical leaders in order
to develop a robust and clinically relevant skills based curriculum that will be deliverable within the
demands of clinical practice.

Funding to Support Children with Genetic Disorders (UK)
UK charity Genetic Disorders UK has announced that its 2018 Jeans for Genes grants programme will
re-open for applications on the 1st August 2017.
Grants of up to £5,000 will be available to charities and support groups that care for children
affected by a genetic disorder such as Cystic fibrosis, Haemophilia and Sickle cell. To be eligible, the
application must be submitted by a UK-registered charity or UK based patient group working with
and benefiting children (age 18 or under) and their families affected by genetic disorders.
Previous projects funded include:
Ataxia UK, who used funding from Jeans for Genes to fund the production of a booklet and film for
teenagers, and a booklet for parents and carers of children with ataxia and the Herefordshire
Learning Disability Trust, which used its grant to fund 17 places at a summer holiday club to benefit
children with genetic conditions plus a further 13 places for able-bodied children.

Funding for Public Engagement in Health and Scientific Research (UK)
Wellcome's Public Engagement Fund provides grants of between £5,000 and £3 million for activities,
projects, creative spaces, people and organisations with great ideas for engaging the public in
conversations about health-related science and research. The fund is open to anyone, including
those working in the arts, entertainment media, museums and heritage, leisure, sport and tourism,
education and informal learning, the community, charity and public sectors.
For 2017, there is a particular interest in proposals that:
Explore the impact of a changing environment on health
Aim to achieve better health outcomes
Test new ways of engaging people with health-related science and research and reach
communities in the top 25 per cent most deprived neighbourhoods in England, Scotland,
Wales and Northern Ireland.

Funding for Schools Science Projects (UK)
The Royal Society has announced that its Partnership Grant scheme will re-open for applications on
the 5th June 2017.
Through the scheme grants of up to £3,000 are available for STEM (science, technology, engineering
and mathematics) projects run at a primary or secondary school or college in partnership with a
professional scientist or engineer. The aim is to make the teaching of science more interesting within
primary and secondary schools. Any UK primary or secondary school teacher or practicing
scientist/engineer can apply as long as the students involved in the project are between 5 and 18.
Examples of previously funded projects include:
Germoe, Godolphin, Marazion and Sithney Primary Schools in Cornwall, who received a grant of

Veolia Environmental Trust Grants (UK)
The Veolia Environmental Trust, has announced that the next closing date for stage 1 applications is
the 31st August 2017.
Constituted, not-for-profit groups within the vicinity of a qualifying Veolia site, can apply for grants
of between £10,000 and £75,000 towards community buildings; parks and paths, play and
recreational facilities; nature reserves and biodiversity projects. To qualify for funding, projects must
have a total cost of under £250,000 (including VAT and professional costs).
There is a two-stage application process and applicants successful at stage 1 must have secured 20%
of funding towards the project prior to submitting a full (stage 2) application.

Eurostars 2 is Now Open for Registration (UK / Europe)
Small companies in need of public funding for an innovative idea can now register to participate in a
Eurostars project - the only European funding programme specifically dedicated to support Small
and Medium Sized Enterprises in their innovative R&D projects. A Eurostars project must have a
civilian purpose and be aimed at the development of a new product, process or service. The project
must be completed in 36 months or less and the Eurostars project market introduction of the project
results should be within 24 months of the completion of the project.

National Churches Trust Project Development Grants (UK)
Grants of up to £10,000 are available to help churches of any Christian denomination develop high
quality sustainable repair and community projects.
Priority in this round will be given to applications from the North East of England, Northern Ireland,
Scotland and Wales, as well as from Baptist and Presbyterian churches. Buildings must have been
built as churches originally and 50% of the funds needed must be in place.

The Andy Fanshawe Memorial Trust Grants (UK)
The Andy Fanshawe Memorial Trust (AFMT ) supports projects that allow disadvantaged young
people the chance to develop an existing interest in the great outdoors.
The Trust usually supports programmes that are run by schools or youth groups, but welcomes
applications from individuals, but these must have a referee. The AFMT support a wide range of
projects, but are unlikely to support foreign trips.
Projects the fund has supported in the past include:
A £300 grant of a Youth Forum in Lancashire to support a programme of outdoor activities.
£500 grant for a group of young people from Bradford to go on a residential outdoor activities
course in Scotland.

The Jerusalem Trust RE Resource Grant Scheme (UK)
The Jerusalem Trust makes available to schools a number of grants to support the purchase of
resources for teaching Christianity in Religious Education. These can include textbooks, teacher
resources, artefacts, videos, tapes and CD-roms for use in RE lessons.
The fund is open to all primary and secondary schools in the UK, although priority will be given to

Postcode Community Trust (England, Scotland and Wales)
Postcode Community Trust will re-open for applications to its grants programme on the 1st August
2017.
Through its grants programme, the Trust will provide grants of £500 - £20,000 (£10,000 in Wales) for
projects that benefit communities through grass-roots sports, arts and recreation programmes and
healthy living initiatives that improve a community's physical and mental health. Funding is available
to registered charities, voluntary organisations, community interest companies and social

Lloyds Bank Foundation Announces Next Funding Round for its “Invest” Programme (England &
Wales)
The Lloyds Bank Foundation for England & Wales, which provides funding to charities for projects to
help people break their cycle of disadvantage, has announced that its "Invest" grants programme re-
opened for applications on the 22nd May 2017 and will close on the 16th June 2017.
"Invest" is a flexible, long term core funding programme for charities helping disadvantaged people.
Invest grants are from £10,000 up to maximum of £25,000 per year for two or three years, with the
opportunity for continuation funding for a further period - up to six years in total. Invest grants fund
core running costs such as rent, heating, lighting and management costs etc, as well as project
delivery costs such as salaries, recruitment, volunteer expense and training, etc.
The Foundation also runs a smaller "Enable" programme which provides grants of up to £15,000 for
up to 2 years for activities relating to organisational development such as leadership and
governance, improved systems and demonstrating outcomes.

Hospice organisations that receive less than 60% of their funding from the NHS are eligible to apply
for grants of £500 to £5,000. Individual grants are calculated on the basis of the services provided
and the number of beds operated by the hospice. Grants are not given towards building costs or to
hospices that are not yet operational.

Sport England to Launch New Families Fund (England)
Sport England has announced that intends to launch a new Families Fund on the 22nd June 2017.
The aim of the fund will be to offer new opportunities for families with children to do sport and
physical activity together. A particular focus will be to support parents on low incomes with children
aged 5-15 living in areas of high deprivation; and to make sure their children have positive
experiences of sport and physical activity. Sport England will be seeking applications from
organisations, both sporting and non-sporting, who understand children and families and have a
proven track record of working with them. Potential examples include housing associations, family-
focused charities, parent support organisations and outdoor activity providers.

Physics Teacher Training Scholarships (England)
The Institute of Physics (IOP) has announced that the next deadline for applications to its Teacher
Training Scholarships is the 19th June 2017.
The IOP, in partnership with the Department for Education offers teacher training scholarships,
worth £30,000 (tax free) for people in England who would like to train to teach physics or physics
with math's. Scholarships also include a package of benefits such as Institute membership and early
career mentoring. 150 scholarships are available each year.

Near Neighbours Small Grants Fund (England)
Local groups and organisations, who are working to bring together neighbours and develop
relationships across diverse faiths and ethnicities in order to improve their communities, have until
17th November 2017 to apply for grants of £250 to £5,000 from the Near Neighbours fund.
The fund which operates in East & West London, Luton, East Midlands, Birmingham, the Black
Country, Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire has two key objectives:

New Culture & Business Fund to Support Arts and Heritage Sponsorship (Scotland)
Arts & Business Scotland's has launched a new Culture & Business Fund.
The fund aims to support arts and heritage organisations to build new business sector partnerships
and encourage businesses to sponsor arts and heritage activity within Scotland. The fund will
provide pound for pound match funding to partnerships between arts or heritage organisations and
business sponsors of up to £40,000. In-kind and cash sponsorship, (from the sponsor's own funds,
goods or services) are eligible to be included as contributions.

A fast-track application form for match funding of between £1,000 and £3,000 excluding VAT

The Great Place Scheme (Scotland)
Heritage organisations have until the 8th June 2017 to submit an expression of interest to the Great
Place Scheme for Scotland.

organisations, and by involving citizens and local businesses. Between 5 and 10 places across

Community Festivals Fund (Northern Ireland)
The Community Festivals Fund is jointly funded by Belfast City Council and the Department of
Culture, Arts and Leisure to recognise the role that festivals can play in increasing social cohesion,

Northern Ireland Screen’s New Shorts Focus Deadline Extended (Northern Ireland)
The application deadline for New Shorts Focus has been extended to the 5th June.
The initiative is aimed at finding Northern Ireland resident filmmakers exclusively from groups that

Grants for Places of Worship (Northern Ireland)
Grade A, B+, B, B1 or B2 listed places of worship in Northern Ireland have until 19th June 2017 to
apply for funding for urgent structural repair projects and associated works to encourage greater
community use and engagement.
Grants of £10,000 to £250,000 are available. Applications are welcome from all faith groups and
denominations that are responsible for maintaining and repairing their place of worship.
Applications go through a two-round process so that applicants can apply at an early stage and get
an idea of whether they are likely to receive a grant.
Applicants can submit detailed proposals. Second-round submissions and supporting documents
must be received within 12 months of the first-round decision. They are then assessed within three
months, after which funding decisions are made at the next monthly decision meeting for their area.

HealthWish, the Health Community Interest Company for East and West Sussex has announced that

The Alec Dickson Trust provides grants of up to £500 to help young people of up to 30 or small

Isos Community Fund Opens for Applications (UK)
The My Community Fund from Isos Homes has grants of £50 to £1,000 available for projects that
create places where people want to live and improve the wellbeing and quality of life of residents.
It is targeted mainly at UK community and voluntary organisations where a grant will directly benefit
a community where Isos has homes. Projects must address one or more of the following Community
Investment Strategy themes:

Woodland Carbon Fund Launched (England)
Forestry Commission England has launched the Woodland Carbon Fund. Landowners can receive
funding of up to £6,800 per hectare to create new woodland, or up to £8,500 per hectare if they
provide permissive access across the woodland (dependent on its location). The Woodland Carbon
Fund aims to boost the rate of woodland creation and to visibly demonstrate how, by taking a
natural capital approach, woodland creation can help to meet government's future carbon targets

Council to undertake any procurement exercise. Notwithstanding this, in the event that Sheffield
City Council decides to formally commence procurement pursuant to this PIN, which is likely to be
early summer 2017, a separate Contract Notice will be issued.
This PIN is also to notify the market that Sheffield City Council plans to host supplier events and
market sounding meetings to further develop its understanding of the market for advisory support
for its social investment programme. Public sector organisations in Sheffield are working together on
a programme of work– Public Service Reform – to improve how public services work in the city. We
are interested in delivering significant, sustained, financially secure changes to the nature of public
service delivery, always in pursuit of better outcomes.
We are focusing on reforms that will require the leadership of at least two public agencies in the city
and that are associated with enabling people to lead long, healthy lives; education and employment;
and empowering citizens to be responsible and independent. Alongside considering ‘customer-
facing' changes that we may want to make, we are also ensuring we have the right enablers in place
to ensure PSR can happen. These enablers include considering different models of investment.
We are developing a proposal for a Sheffield Outcomes Fund, where by public agencies would raise a
significant, one-off fund predominantly from within their own resources; potentially supplemented
with other sources of capital; and
i) publish a set of out comes that local public commissioners want to target;
ii) a price (or range of prices) that local commissioners would be prepared to pay for those
outcomes;
iii) use this fund to stimulate the development, delivery, and financing–using external
sources of finance, including social finance – of a set of innovative business cases in
pursuit of those outcomes.
We have already begun to develop a number of business case ideas internally in several policy areas.
We are interested in understanding providers' interest in working with public organisations to
develop these business cases, and therefore Sheffield City Council is organising a ‘soft market test
event' to meet with organisations who may be interested in working with local commissioners to
further develop these ideas and business cases, within the context of a Sheffield Outcomes Fund.
The objective of advisory support would be to work with local commissioners and
a) understand the work that has been done already;
b) develop an analytically-rigorous understanding of the target cohort, evidence base and proposals
about different interventions, and costs;
c) provide policy-area specific advice about pricing arrangements for the Sheffield Outcomes Fund;
d) model the impact of the proposed intervention and identify outcome measures;

We are looking for support to move ideas to a stage of readiness, to allow lead commissioners to
then undertake detailed procurement and commercial work, and then implementation. The current
set of policy areas that we are interested in developing further are early years; mental health; youth
outcomes; primary care; adults with complex needs; early years and attachment. The Sheffield
Outcomes Fund will likely target up to four different policy areas – and there may be multiple
business cases for each policy area. We are interested in hearing from organisations who can
develop business cases in all the planned areas of activity, and from providers who specialise in one
or some of these areas.
Part of the rationale for the Sheffield Outcomes Fund is to drive the sorts of reforms we are
targeting, at scale. We are therefore aiming to develop business cases which are significant in scale
and they should deliver improvements in direct outcomes for more than 1,000 people, and/or
release net savings in excess of £10m.These criteria do not apply to the adults with complex needs
policy area. Budget – our total budget for this work is between £100,000 and £180,000. This will be
allocated amongst the organisations/ providers appointed to develop business cases in all the
planned areas of activity.
Two events will be held on June 19th in Sheffield, a morning event and an afternoon event. Please

capability and capacity for improvement from the Board to the frontline. The strategic objectives of
this procurement is to deliver a programme that will

Accelerate the pace of work on key strategic priorities and
Build capability for improvement. In addition the programme will focus on generating a high degree
of staff engagement, compassionate leadership and put quality at the core of the programme,
aligning with most recent NHS Policy.
