So many amazing opportunies such as soſtball, debang, tennis and cricket tryouts, swimming carnival, two choirs, SRC and house captain elecons. Congratulaons to all those students who got elected for these roles and to all the students who parcipated. This year we have some fresh ideas for the SRC which will make our school even more wonderful, these include fun acvies such as drama club, night discos and more fundraising opportunies. So many amazing opportunities such as softball, debating, tennis and cricket tryouts, swimming carnival, two choirs, SRC and house captain elections. WHAT’S COMING UPWHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

AUDITION FOR OLIVER, THE MUSICAL!Brunswick Heads town is hosting the inaugural VOICES BH festival in June. It will include singing workshops for children and young people, so our choir students will be participating and any other singing lovers!The dates are: Workshops 27 - 30 May VOICES BH festival 31 May - 2 JunePart of the festival is an abridged version of the musical Oliver! Girls and boys aged 8 to 12 years are invited to audition for the roles of Oliver, The Artful Dodger and Fagin’s gang. Please head to our school website for all the details and to download an application for audition.

Students are encouraged to walk, ride, skate or scoot to school on March 22 to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.All students must wear a helmet. If students live too far away, parents are encouraged to drop students closer to school or escort the students themselves.It’s a fun day. We will have class sessions of riding in the playground to teach bike and road safety during the day.

Students at Brunswick Heads PS enjoy a range of extra-curricular and sporting opportunities. In our first 3 weeks, students have taken part in student leadership – sports and SRC, debating, Boys Hip Hop dance, Junior and Senior dance, swimming carnival, choir, senior choir, Eco Club, cricket, softball and tennis.Congratulations to all students who were involved in our Year Group meetings and delivered speeches to run for the Student Representative Council on Thursday 14 February. The following students were elected as student leaders for Semester 1: Year 1 – Layla and Sebastian; Year 2 – Inca and Beau; Year 3 – Elke and River F; Year 4 – Franky and Oska; Year 5 – Violet and Elliott; Year 6 – Luna and Dominic; Aboriginal Student Representatives – Delilah and Jordan. Due to the Headlands District Swimming Carnival, our student leaders for both SRC and Sports House Captains will take part in the formal Induction Assembly on Thursday 7 March at 2pm.Thank you to all of the parents who took part in our first P&C Meeting for 2019 on Wednesday 13 February. At this meeting I presented our current Anti-bullying Action Plan, which is embedded within our school’s Wellbeing Framework, for feedback. This document is currently being updated and soon will be released to all parents for your feedback and ideas. On Friday 15 February our Year 6 students took part in their first information session about Mullumbimby High School, as part of our extended transition to high school. Miss Sophie, Mrs Bub-Connor and two ex-BHPS students, Safiya and Jazmyn, spoke with Year 6 about what students can become involved in at high school, activities, sports house groups, excursions and other high school topics. Parents are invited to attend our Week 4 whole school assembly, this Thursday 21 February at 2pm in the hall. This assembly will be hosted by Booribi class. Our Welcome Back BBQ will be held on Wednesday 27 February from 5-7:30pm. This special evening provides an opportunity for parents to meet our amazing teachers and to hear about the planning and procedures that make our school an exciting and engaging learning environment for all students. Our wonderful P&C will provide a delicious BBQ dinner for an affordable price. We look forward to seeing you there. From Week 5, Mrs Mel Currie will be taking over as relieving Principal of our beautiful school, while I go on maternity leave. I would like to thank all of our students, teachers and families for a fantastic start to 2019 and wish everyone all the best for the year ahead.

What a great Swimming Carnival, it just shows the positive attitude and support our students and staff give each other while having lots of fun! Well done to everyone who had a go and gave their best. The winning house was Minyon.The Headlands District Swimming Carnival is on tomorrow Thursday 21 February. We wish all of our students who are going the best of luck. FUN RUNIn the past our P&C has organised a Fun Run during our School Cross Country which will be held on Tuesday 26 March. This arrangement has helped with fund raising in a way the whole student body can contribute and get a prize. Going home with this newsletter are packs for the sponsorship forms for 2019 for each student. Parents can help students get started.

TRIVIA NIGHT IS BACK - SAT 16 MARCH! Our dearly loved community Trivia Night is back by popular demand on Saturday 16 March at the Memorial Hall from 6pm, presented by the Brunswick Heads Public School P&C. Get behind this super fun fundraiser for our kids. Book your babysitter (this is an adults only event) and round up a team of friends, family and neighbours for a night of hilarious games, a few rounds of trivia and the best prizes we’ve seen at this event to date. This will be trivia presenter, Ron White’s last year of generously hosting this event for our school - so come along and give Ron an awesome send off for all years of trivia fun he has provided. Thank you Ron!With so many epic prizes up for grabs this year (Splendor, Falls and Laneway VIP double passes), tickets are expected to sell out so make sure you book early. Tables of 8 are only $120. BUS SAFETY WEEK This compaign runs from 18 to 24 February and aims to raise awareness for all road users to stay safe on and around buses, helping to reduce injuries and fatalities.
