2014 Class Session Times (ages as of 1/1/14) Kindergym (0-5yrs)-Wednesdays 9.30-10.30am (some spots still available)

Opals (5yrs)– Wednesdays 4.15-5.15pm (class full)

Hot Weather Policy

Classes are cancelled on the morning of your

session when the forecast is… Opals/Emeralds– 36o or hotter

Sapphires A & B /Diamonds and all Senior groups-37o or hotter

Kindergym-is rarely cancelled and members will be advised via club website/facebook.

Usually following more than 3 or 4 days of excessive heat. Don’t forget your Water Bottles!!

Healthy Food Policy Parents are reminded about our “Healthy Food” policy. If gymnasts need to eat

in-between gym sessions keep it healthy eg: cheese and crackers, yogurt, salads,

fruit, healthy sandwiches or meals to heat up in our microwave (remember “No

Nuts”). Extra water is available from the water cooler in the kitchen. Please

leave the special treats such as soft drinks, chips, lollies, pizza etc for club fund-

raisers and competitions.

New Membership Fees and payment conditions for 2014

$30 Insurance—per gymnasts/per year.

Fees for First child/family member

Special Price $135 per year (paid in full within the first 4 weeks of

membership)

Normal Price $150 per year (any payment plans must be finished within

10 weeks)

Fees for Second child and any subsequent children/family members

Special Price $115 per year (paid in full within the first 4 weeks of membership)

Normal Price $130 per year (any payment plans must be finished within 10 weeks)

Payment plans must be organised by week 4. Please see our club Treasurer Leanne Van

Der Hoek ph: 0410 272 192 (on-line payment information is available from the front

desk).

Note-Memberships will now be suspended if payment requirements/arrangements are

not met and no gymnastics classes will be undertaken until full payment is received.

Important Reminder-Car Parking We can have up to 120 people coming and going in between each gym session so it’s very important that we all obey the rules and keep our members and their families safe. Members Parking

All members must park in the gravel car park at the side of the hall.

Parents/caregivers are then required to walk their children to and from

the gym hall.

Children may not leave the hall until they are collected by a parent or caregiver from the “Viewing Room”

only. (Not outside or from the foyer please as coaches need to check that all children are leaving with the

right person).

Coaches/Committee Parking

Directly out the front of the gym hall.

Also Parallel Parking along the gym side of Wilkinson Street by the pine logs.

No Parking Rules (to reduce traffic congestion and members being hit by cars)

No Parking across the road on Wilkinson St–it is reserved for resident’s only.

“Drop & go” is banned by the club as there is not a safe area to do so. Maps are available from the front desk. Note-the club has a duty of care to its members and visitors which includes a safe entrance and exit to the

gym hall. Anyone who does not obey these rules will be subject to the committees disciplinary actions which

may include cancellation of your membership. BDYC Committee

Grant Win We have been successful in winning an “Active Club” grant for $3,000.

The funds will go towards the purchase of gymnastics equipment.

Clubroom Cleaners Wanted Thank you to Karen Stidiford and Skye Hampel for volunteering to clean our Clubrooms again this

year. It’s a big job so if you can help once a week, once a month or every now and then, please let us know.

The more volunteers we have the easier it will be. All equipment and cleaning products are supplied by the

club. Note-A police check will be required. Please see Jane McFarlane .

Annual Working Bee 22 members participated in our annual working bee

on the 11th January. They cleaned the clubrooms

from top to bottom earning themselves 10

“Best Club Member” points. They also enjoyed a

Coaches Corner A huge thank you to our fantastic team of dedicated coaches who have been flat-out over the summer break upgrading their qualifications to conform with the new Gymnastics Australia coaching structure, insurance policy upgrades and the recent changes in the child protection laws. They braved the extreme heat with temperatures reaching 45o and travelled down to Adelaide to undergo all day courses in centres with no air conditioning. Now that’s commitment!!

New Qualifications

Congratulations to our newly qualified “Beginner Coaches”.

Belinda Reilly, Tanya Watson, Amanda Piasente , Richard

Coote , Jo Pankhurst and Isabella Jarvis who completed the

course over the summer break. They undertook an 8 hour

on-line course and a 1 Day “Face to face” component in Ade-

laide. They will now be working through their coaching work-

books and completing 20 hrs of supervised coaching.

Accredited Coaches

Carolyn Martin, Karen Baxter, Michael Herrmann, Jody Scott and Jane McFarlane completed a

“Supervisors” course in December as part of the new Gymnastics Australia coaching requirements to

supervise and assess beginner coaches. A number of coaches also completed courses in “Managing Inclusion

in Gymnastics”, “Managing Risks in Coaching” and “Child Safe Environments”.

2014 Gym SA Congress Karen Baxter, Carolyn Martin, Michael Herrmann and Jane McFarlane attended the annual Gym SA coach-

es congress in Adelaide in February. They participated in a variety of courses

such as Kindergym, Vaulting, Tumbling, Uneven Bars, Parkour, Dance and Chore-

ography.

Farewell Kruschel Sapphires coach in charge Samantha Kruschel has moved to Adelaide this year

and we wish her all the very best. Samantha has taken out a triple club mem-

bership with the BDYC, Para Hills and Payneham gym clubs so she will be able to

participate in club events when she is visiting the Riverland. Thank you Sammie

for your wonderful contribution to the club and we hope you return to us soon.

Congratulations to Jody Scott, partner Duanne and big sister Kara on the safe

arrival of their beautiful baby girl “Georgia” on the 27th January.

New Clubrooms Update The latest plans for the Berri Recreation Centre were

lodged with Council over the summer break -see the

Viewing Room notice board. The Glassey Park sporting

community and the surrounding residents were notified by

letter about our project and Council have received no

objections. Planning approval has also been granted by the

Regional Development Assessment Panel. Meanwhile

sporting clubs are updating their information for council and undergoing negotiations for hiring and

leasing, Quoting will begin shortly so please contact the Berri Rec Cente Committee’s Vice-President

& Secretary Jane McFarlane ph: 0400 179 899.

of potential new clients. All funds raised will be used to purchase

equipment and accessories to use now and in our new clubrooms.

We would like to welcome two new members to our committee this year. Leanne Van Der Hoek as Treasurer and Paul Haenen will be our new Member Protection Officer. Volunteer Required- “Minutes Secretary” As our club grows so does our paperwork, so the committee have created a new position to assist our Secretary/Public Officer. New Position-“Minutes Secretary”

Duties-Taking minutes at committee meetings, some letter writing and mail collection.

Requirements-Police check., able to attend meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month.

Experience-Some experience preferred but training can be provided
