Learn to swim ….. Love to swim…
Summer weather promises lots of swimming in beaches, rivers, lakes and pools, but with
that also comes an increased risk of drowning, which peaks during the warmer months.
In young children, the greatest danger comes from being unsupervised when they are near
water, including accidentally falling in to a pool, bathtub or even a laundry bucket. Older
children need to know how to have fun safely whether they’re surfing, swimming, skiing,
boating or fishing.
Learning to swim is absolutely essential for both children and adults.
It is great to see so many of our KPS students starting an intensive
learn to swim program next week at Katoomba Aquatic Centre.
Well done to all of the parents who are supporting that program, it
will be a fun fortnight.
Thank you to Mrs Graham and Ms Haskew for taking the students to
swim school this year. …………………………………………..
I am off on camp next Wednesday until Friday with Stage 3…... Ms Abbey, Ms King,
Ms Bateman, Ms Cate and Ms Nankervis. We are all heading off early Wednesday to the
Great Aussie Bush Camp in Tea Gardens.
If you do have any concerns come in and arrange a time to talk to Miss Charlton.

Year 6 Ice Block Fundraiser
Thank you for the bottle tops … we have enough for now! Thank you to all those people who have brought in bottle tops for the prosthetic limb project. We are no longer collecting them. The organisers were hoping to collect 1 million bottle tops and have now collected over 4 million!
Uniform Shop volunteers needed The P&C run the KPS Uniform Shop and Michelle and Leanne, our long-term volunteers, are retiring from the job. We’re looking for another couple of people to help out.
This is a wonderful way to help at school as it only involves 30-60 minutes, one day a week on a morning of your choice and can be done with your preschool helper too! It’s a lovely job to share with a friend too. If you’d like to find out more about the job give Cate a ring on 0487 899 469.
Gunar Garung working bee THIS SATURDAY Don’t forget our working bee this Saturday from 9am-11am. If you have tools such as mattocks or garden forks you can bring them, or just turn up on the day. Entry is via the Waratah St gate on the school Oval. Check Skoolbag if the weather is rainy or windy.

KPS P&C News P&C Meeting next Wednesday 13 November The next meeting is this coming Wednesday, 13 November at 7.15pm in the Staffroom. We do need more people coming along, so if you’ve been thinking about it perhaps the time is right now! And bring a friend!
P&C end-of-year raffle Thanks to the very generous support of our local businesses and community the P&C is once again able to run an End-of-Year fundraising raffle. Tickets will be available for purchase soon so keep an eye on the bottoms of the school bags so you don’t miss out!
If you would like to donate a prize for the raffle that would be much appreciated – please ring Cate on 087 899 469 or leave your name at the Office.

KPS is getting involved again with the Youth Shoebox Drive, where gifts are given to
children and young people seeking asylum in Australia.
There are 2 ways you can take part:
Donate any new items appropriate for children or young people which can be
packed into shoeboxes.
Put a whole box together, wrap and label.
Any help is appreciated, the children and young people love receiving cards and
messages too.
All items and boxes need to be in at the office by Monday 9th December (week 9).
The shoebox items need to be checked before distribution. Please do not wrap the box
so it can’t be opened.
If you have any questions about the drive please contact Angie Wilson.

Swim School Reminder
Swim School starts next week for Year 2 and some of our Year 3 & 4 students who are non-swimmers.
Please remind your child to wear their swimming costume under their uniform and to make sure they have spare
undies to change in to after swimming.
They will also need towels, a hat, a t-shirt or rash vest and sunscreen.
Please label all towels, t-shirts, hats and swim gear with your child’s name as every year we find that lots of
unlabelled items end up in our lost property area.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Lessons 2/3H learnt from Molly and Pim and the Millions of Stars
We have just finished reading Molly and Pim by Martine Murray. We have learnt numerous things from the story. Friendship- We have learnt you can have many different sorts of friends and they can be different from you. Family- We have learnt you don’t give up on family and every family is different and that’s ok. Nature- We learnt that nature can be used to heal wounds on our body or your emotions. Bravery- We learnt to be brave when we have a problem and to never give up. By 2/3 Happy
