In 2013 we exhibited with great success in Victoria and this year we were in NSW starting in Sydney. It has been another outstanding success.Project Manager Iet Fuijkschot provides you in this news-letter with details of the cities and towns where we have exhibited. As you can see it has exceeded all expectations.

Museums and other venues such as libraries were keen to have us and they all experienced visitor numbers way beyond their expectations. Most of them want us back like the Jewish Museum in Sydney who will exhibit for a further 6 months starting in December 2015.

In February 2015 we will launch in the National Jewish Memorial Centre in Canberra. This will be very special as we have the privilege of launching the New Anne Frank Exhibition worldwide.

For more than three decades the Anne Frank House has been organising travelling exhibitions. Some ten million visitors in more than 80 countries visited “Anne Frank-A History for Today”.This new generation of the travelling exhibition will include modules that will specifically highlight the contemporary relevance of the story of Anne Frank.

Part of the exhibition explores four general themes that are drawn from the story of Anne Frank’sIdentity: • How did Anne Frank perceive her own identity? • How do young people see their own identity and

how do others define you?• Individuals, as group members: What groups do you

belong to? How do others categorise you?• Discrimination: What happens if you are not accepted by

others?• Response: What can we learn from the story of Anne

Frank?

It is exciting that we now start the next 3 years with this new Exhibition although the existing one can still be obtained from us.

December 2014

All this would not have been possible if our sponsors had not stood behind us and continued their support. We are most grateful for that.Canberra will be another success and we then continue to exhibit throughout Australia. The Anne Frank Australia Board of Directors is also part of this success and they give their time freely.

I look forward to another successful Australia Anne Frank year in 2015.

Thos Gieskes, CEO Rabobank Australia and New Zealand

The world-renowned Anne Frank Travelling Exhibition that has been touring rural and regional Australia throughout 2014 has been well received by local communities, according to princi-pal sponsor, Rabobank.

As principal sponsor of the nationally-touring exhibition, Rabo-bank has hosted client functions in the various locations of the exhibition.

CEO Rabobank Australia Thos Gieskes said the regional com-munities’ response to the Anne Frank Travelling Exhibition has been very positive.

“Rabobank sees the Anne Frank exhibition as an opportunity for our clients and regional communities more broadly to become aware of and experience one of the most powerful stories in history,” Mr Gieskes said.

“Given our Dutch heritage there is a strong connection with the story of Anne Frank and in particular, this is such an impor-tant piece of history that we can bring to the rest of the world in this way – it’s a world-class exhibition.”

Rabobank has hosted client functions and promoted the exhibition during its tour of Victoria and New South Wales in 2013-2014 to destinations including Melbourne, Ballarat, Port-land, Casterton, Leongatha, Bonegilla, Sydney, Dubbo, Griffith, Newcastle and Balranald. In 2015, the new exhibition will tour Canberra, amongst other regional locations.

Every year the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam is visited by more than a million visitors. I still find it moving to see that the story of Anne Frank - almost 70 years after her death – ap-peals to so many people, from different genera-tions and backgrounds. Most of our visitors are young and they come from all corners of the earth, including Australia. The comments in our visitors’ books show that a lot of these people don’t only come because the Anne Frank House is a ‘must-see’ when you are on a touristic trip to the Netherlands. They often express how much it means to them to be able to finally see the former hiding place of the Frank family and the four others in hiding and to get a little closer to the tragic story that took place here. For others the museum is a first encounter with what happened to Jews during the Holocaust. The Anne Frank House highly appreciates the efforts of our Australian partners to bring the travelling exhibition ‘Anne Frank – A History for Today’ to the Australian audience. We were excited to see the response in the communities that hosted the exhibition. The Australian copy of our exhibition is one out of 80 copies of the Anne Frank exhibition that have been on tour worldwide since 1995. Everywhere we try to connect the historical content to the contem-porary world of young people today. We are confident that also in 2015 the Anne Frank exhibition will continue to serve this purpose.

connect the historical content to the contemporary world

On 16 October 2014, the Anne Frank House received its millionth visitor this year: 80-year-old Hilda Evens from Australia. “I really wanted to see the Anne Frank House today, before I go home tomorrow”, Mrs. Evens said, who’s in Amsterdam together with her daughter. It is expected that the museum will once again attract a record number of visitors in 2014 (the previous record was in 2013, with 1,195,456 visitors).

6This year, our second year in Australia, the Anne Frank Travelling Exhibition has been an enormous success too. The museums and libraries that were lucky enough to host the exhibition were all very excited about the amount of people and schoolchildren visiting the exhibition. The venues were: Bonegilla Migrant Experience, Sydney Jewish Museum, Western Plains Cultural Centre in Dubbo, Griffith Library, Newcastle Library and Balranald Gallery. Next year we will receive the new exhibition called ‘Let me be myself’. It is very exciting to have the worldwide launch of this exhibition in Canberra. After the exhibition ‘Let me be myself’ has been shown in Canberra it will go to Tasmania and after that South Australia and in the future to Queensland and Western Australia. The exhibition ‘Anne, a History for Today’ will go to Wyong in NSW and back to the Sydney Jewish Museum. It still is a very exciting project and I am honoured to be involved.
