Year 2 students will now have the opportunity to join the years 3-6 students to have a go at “Gymnastics” on Tuesday afternoons at school from 3.15-4.15pm. Parents or Guardians will be required to collect students at the end of the program and sign them out.

management of bleeding including nose bleeds, and how to help maintain a clear airway for an unconscious person. The year 5 and 6 students also were taught about using C.P.R. Caroline, Ben, Amy and Tara were great instructors and had many students bandaged up and talking about their own experiences during the sessions.

HATS! HATS! HATS! A reminder that students will need to bring along and wear their hats in term 4.

Head Lice and Holidays From our experience, head lice become a significant issue at school for families after we have had school holidays. Parents are strongly urged to check their child’s hair at the beginning of the term. We have started checks this week. If we can all be vigilant, hopefully head lice will not become a huge community health issue this term.

Car Park Safety As in all schools, safety in the car park is of the highest priority when students are dropped off and picked up each day. To help everyone use the car park

safely we have asked that parents/guardians do not use the area at the front gate to drop off or pick up students either in the morning or the afternoon. School Council approved signage for the front car parking area last term and this has now been installed as a reminder to all those using the car park. Please help to keep everyone safe by abiding by these rules.

First Aid in School’s Program On Monday we were very fortunate to be able to offer all students the opportunity to learn more about First Aid. St John Ambulance fund raise and use proceeds from commercial operations to provide free community programs in schools.

Our junior classes had the opportunity to talk about recognising an emergency situation, how to call for assistance and keep themselves safe. The students in Year 3 and 4 talked about bandaging, basic

PE/Sport News Region Athletics

Yesterday three Drouin West PS students competed in the Region Athletics Carnival at Joe Carmody

Athletics track in Newborough. It was the fourth competition for Riley Griffin, Brooke De Riter and Zach

Dumergue who won their way through from our school sports, to the district athletics, zone athletics and

then onto the region athletics!

It was a busy day and the events were running behind

schedule but the rain stayed away and the large crowd of

spectators were delighted with the efforts of students from

all over Gippsland.

Riley and Brooke both competed in the High Jump and Zach in the discus.

Zach did extremely well to take 4th place in the 11 year old boys discus

throwing a massive 24.18 metres. Brooke jumped a personal best in the

High Jump to take 5th place, jumping 1.15 metres. After a series of training

sessions Riley was able

to equal his personal

best jump of 1.15

metres in the High

Jump to come in at 6th

place. A fantastic

effort from the three to proudly represent Drouin West PS.

Zach, Brooke and Riley are to be congratulated on their achievement to progress to Region level and it was a pleasure

working with them this year. A big thank you to the parents for supporting their children in the Athletics, training at home

and taking time off work to watch their children. The school community are very proud of all children and looking forward

to enjoying Athletics in 2015. The Drouin West PS Athletics day will be held in Term One next year and promises to be an

excellent event.

Volleyball

Grade 3/4 and 5/6 have been learning Volleyball in PE lessons this term. Volleyball is a lovely game to learn to play at the

beach and in the backyard. Local competitions are held at in Warragul for all ages.

Some excellent ‘digging’ and ‘setting’ are taking place so far and children are encouraged to find a ball and practice at

home. We look forward to learning more summer sports this term as the weather improves. Jane Strickland

Chaplain’s News Recipe for a Happy Family

Ingredients:

4 parts faith

4 cups love

1 barrel of laughter

1 cup of friendship

2 spoons tenderness

3 cups of forgiveness

2 cups of loyalty

5 spoons hope

Mix the love and the loyalty with faith.

Add tenderness and forgiveness.

Sprinkle with friendship and hope.

Season abundantly with laughter

Serve with generosity.

On one of our trips away I had a rare opportunity to look in the

little gift shop attached to the historical village we had visited

and enjoyed immensely. In it I found a plaque with these words and I really loved their sentiment.

Families are often complex communities. The poem really challenged me with

forgiveness. How readily do I forgive others in my family? Those two little words,

“I’m sorry” can make a huge difference in restoring relationships. Even if I didn’t

mean to hurt, saying “I’m sorry” because of the hurt is a worthwhile thing to say

to restore a broken relationship. In the poem its 3 cups of forgiveness which

suggests it’s something we are going to have to do fairly often! No person is

perfect and we all do things that hurt others, often unintentionally but for which

we need to say sorry.

The other part of this poem that really challenged me was 1 barrel of laughter. I

am a serious person by nature and I am known in my

family as not having a sense of humour! But over the

years I have realized how important it is to laugh

together. It can be such a good healer. Don’t they

say, “Laughter is the best medicine??”

So this week, with my children and husband I am thinking about 3 cups of forgiveness and

1 barrel of laughter!

How about you?

Take care
