They honoured the tradion of hosng an assembly on their last day. The assembly was filled with fun, laughter, gratude and prayer. Following the assembly, a shared lunch was held with most of the staff aending. I believe the day captured the essence and character strengths of our Year 12 students. I was enrely impressed with how these young adults completed their final days of schooling in such a mature and dignified manner. At the end of any journey there is normally an expression of gratude of some kind. You see this on the faces of sportspeople at the compleon of a match. They normally embrace or console their nearest teammate or supporter. The Year 12’s certainly demonstrated their appreciaon for the teachers who have guided and supported them along their journey. In the coming weeks, we sll have other opportunies to farewell our Year 12 students. As we edge closer to the end of the schooling journey for the Year 12 students, I know that prayer, fun and gratude will be present in the Mass of Thanksgiving and Graduaon Dinner. In the meanme, may our prayers and thoughts be with them as they connue to study hard in preparaon for their final examinaons. World Teachers Day It was serendipitous that the Year 12’s shared their final day of formal schooling with World TeachersDay last Friday. Some of the teachers have been with these students for their enre school journey. Regardless of whether a teacher teaches a student for 1 year or for 13 years, it is a tremendous responsibility and an incredible privilege. I would like to thank all of the teachers at Caritas College who contribute so much to the learning and wellbeing of the students. Staffing On Tuesday Emma Ruffles commenced leave for the remainder of this year as she awaits the arrival of a baby in the coming weeks. We wish Emma and her family all the best during this excing me. I am pleased to share with you that Charloe Raffen has been appointed to replace Emma and will be teaching in 5/6G for the rest of this year. Charloe brings a high level of enthusiasm and excitement to this role and will have many skills and interests to share with the students as they connue to learn and grow throughout Term 4. I know you will join me in welcoming Charloe into our college community. Further to this, I am also pleased to announce that Ashlee Rowe has been appointed to the role of Permanent Primary Teacher, starng in 2019. As you know, Ashlee will bring a range of skills and a high level of enthusiasm to this posion. Over the past 3½ years, she has demonstrated a commitment the colleges mission and vision. This commitment to ongoing learning is in the interest of supporng the needs of our students and will be an asset to our college for years to come. All Saints’ Day Today is All Saints’ Day, which is the first of a two-day celebration of the saints and all who have gone before us and live eternally with God in heaven. We remember and commemorate all those who have died after leading faith-filled lives dedicated to Christ. Their virtuous lives set an example for us all to do good for others just as Jesus did.

Gracious God, through the presence of your Spirit and the unity of the church, you hear and answer us. Strengthen in us the gift of prayer and deepen in us the gift of faith. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Year 12’s Farewell Last Friday we farewelled our Year 12’s on their final day of formal schooling. Building, Grounds and Maintenance I was delighted to see the new shade erected over the primary playground earlier this week. The younger students watched with great anticipation (and patience!) on Tuesday as this was happening. On Wednesday the playground saw an increase in the number of students using the equipment under the shade. I take this as their ‘nod of approval’ for the new structure. Class Placements for 2019 In the coming weeks, teachers will begin the process of class placements for next year. Teaching staff will spend a considerable amount of time placing students into classes, taking into consideration a range of factors. These factors include:

Progress of learning Student’s individual needs (social/emotional, learning, physical, behavioural) Relationships A balance of sexes

Sometimes other factors may also need to be considered. Requests by families to have a specific teacher can have some implications for class placements. Firstly, staffing may not be determined until January and we are unable to confirm who will be teaching what year level. Therefore, we may not be able to honour all requests for a particular teacher. Secondly, by granting some requests by parents and not others, the school is placed in a position of conflict. In the interests of fairness and equity, we cannot make accommodations for some and not others. I value and respect the professional judgement of each of the teachers who will endeavour to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of students when determining the class placements for 2019. We welcome any concerns you may have and you can discuss these with the Wellbeing Coordinators in the respective cohorts. I thank you for understanding the college’s role in this important process. Please be assured that the process focuses on the overall learning and wellbeing needs of each student and supports them to develop a love of learning that leads to personal excellence and holistic development.

24th October 2018 Dear Parents and Care-givers, I write to you regarding a youth event to be held in the parish church on Saturday 10th November from 7:30pm-9:00pm (following 6:30pm Mass) in the meeting room/courtyard of the church. A youth team consisting of the Sisters of the Missionary of God’s love and their helpers will be holding an “Ultimate Games Night” at a cost of gold coin donation. Pizza will be provided. Please find enclosed a flyer. Through this youth event, I am hoping the young people, in Years 7 to 12, experience the joy and fun of being to-gether socially within the context of their faith and to be strengthened and encouraged by the witness of other youth and young adults committed to the Lord Jesus. Regarding child safeguarding, those present on the Team will have the necessary checks including among other requirements police clearances, child safe training and protective practices. A risk assessment will be finalised to identify risks, including risks to child safety, for this event. I would welcome your family’s input to that risk assessment. (So please include your email address below). If you have any questions, please contact me on 0427 321 238. Yours sincerely,
