LAST DAY TERM 4 FOR STUDENTS
20th December 2018
Melbourne Cup Day – Public Holiday
Our Melbourne Cup holiday will occur next Tuesday, 6th November. Many students do not attend on the Monday before Melbourne Cup Day because they are involved in family activities across this long weekend. It seems that on annual basis, less than half of our students attend school on the Monday before the Cup Day holiday. However, if this is going to be the case, I ask that all families inform our office of their child’s absence.
TLW Emerson Awards
On last Wednesday evening, I attended the annual presentation of the TLW Emerson award for outstanding service in the field of Special Education. This award is given by the Victorian Chapter of the Australian Association of Special Education. The 2018 Award was given to Dr Soon Voon and his dental team of Rayleen Formosa and Jace Cucia. Dr. Voon has worked as a dentist in the Special Needs Dental Unit which is part of Dental Health Services Victoria. He recently retired after 42 years in the School Dental Service. His dental van was a regular visitor to Emerson whereby all students had access to free dental service. On behalf of our school, I thanked Dr Voon for his dedication to the students of our school. He will always be part of the living fabric of our school. JOHN MOONEY

We have been participating in the ‘Go Ask Gran Not Google’ project as part of our in our studies on the

very interesting questions. I hope you like our photographs.

It was a wonderful day on Saturday, 27th October! Our Bollywood dance students were amazing and represented their family and Emerson School with great pride at The Knox School for the Inaugural Mental Health Foundation and Shiamak Bollywood Dance School event. Students are congratulated for their commitment to the practice sessions and the generosity of staff who were involved was first class.

Junior School Yard Duty
Last week at the Heatherton Road campus, florescent vests and first aid kits were put into action outside in the
yards during recess and lunch break times. All students can now easily identify the yard duty staff, and there are
supplies on hand to deal with any minor scrapes and scratches.
A huge thank-you to:
Vanessa McMullen for organising the vests and first aid kits.
Bill Vermulst and the SSB crew for purchasing and installing hooks in my office and the front office to
help keep our vests and first aid kits safely stored.
Our Junior School models (Miss Liddy, Mrs D’Souza and Mr Bol) for making the vests look so stylish!!!
