Message from Court Regent
Dear Ladies of Court Holy Family,
Since becoming a member in 1998, I cannot remember a sadder beginning of a year.We have lost five of our beloved members: In January, we lost Georgina “Gigi” Price; inMarch we lost Helen Wilson and Leona Carter; and in April we lost Rita Ochoa and RuthTomb. My heart is heavy from their deaths, but I have the joy of having known them forthese past 20 years.
As we enter the month of June, we leave spring behind and begin summer. I will beattending the National Convention in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in July, representingColorado on the State Board as the Immediate Past State Regent and current StateTreasurer. The current State Regent is our own Bonnie Valcik – two state officers in ourcourt is a great honor for Court Holy Family. I believe approximately 13 ladies fromColorado are going to the Convention!
Next on the summer agenda is the Colorado State Workshop in August at Mount St.Francis in Colorado Springs. I hope all of our new officers will take the opportunity toattend this wonderful Workshop. You will not only get an opportunity to meet otherCatholic Daughters from around Colorado, but you will be able to see the “big picture” ofCDA, not just from the perspective of our own Court. All members are welcome toattend, even if you are not currently an officer. Maybe the Workshop will encourage youto think about becoming an officer in two years.
Even though we are not having meetings in July and August, please keep in mindthat we are trying to increase our membership. So while at Mass, please ask the ladysitting next to you to please attend a meeting,m or your neighbor or your daughter orgranddaughter, to consider becoming a member of CDA.
Don’t forget that I would still like to spotlight a member in the newsletter. You canbe a new member letting us know a little bit about you (like Lauren Simmons did in theMarch 2018 newsletter) or a longtime member who can give us some insight into you asa family person as well as a member of CDA.
I wish you a wonderful summer and hope you come back in the fall in great spiritand excited to continue your wonderful journey as active Catholic Daughters.
Evelyn Irving, Court Regent & Bulletin Editor

IN MEMORIUM
HELEN WILSON August 3, 1928 March 14, 2018
Helen joined Catholic Daughters March 6, 1985. She was born and brought up in a smalltown in Texas. She became a military wife and this is when her love of travel began. Shewould travel with Falcon Tours all over the US and beyond. While in Germany, shestarted a school and remained a teacher until her retirement. She loved being a secondgrade teacher, which she did at Talbot for 25 years. She moved to Colorado Springs in1962 and had two sons: Rick and Ed. She was very active in her Sorority and theCatholic Daughters for over 30 years. She volunteered in the Holy Family food pantry andfuneral dinners, she also helped at the Fountain Valley Senior Center. Helen even taughtEnglish to another member of our court when she first came to the US. She was a memberof a Birthday Group. They would go out to dinner on their birthdays and go to one of theirhouses for refreshments afterwards and they would play Hand and Foot or Mexican Traincard games. Those in the group were Fran Reinhart, Carol Bogardus, Eileen Quaney,Helen Wilson, Joyce Hunke and Marilyn Bridges.
LEONA CARTER September 13, 1929 March 15, 2018
Leona joined Catholic Daughters March 7, 1972. She was the eldest of ten children andwas born in Kansas and was raised on the family farm. Leona married Harold Carter in1952 and had five children known as the "5 Ks": Karenm, Kenneth, Kevin, Keyna, andKelli. Her "one and only love" Harold was killed in the Viet Nam war at the age of 39 soshe raised her five children on her own. Leona was the Secretary at Holy Family for morethan 25 years (when the office was located in the Rectory) and coming in after her, Iremarked many times on how beautiful her handwriting was in all the Sacramental RecordBooks. She was a cancer survivor, more than once, and her faith kept her strong andfocused on her family. She also volunteered at Holy Family in the office stuffing bulletinsor parishwide mailings. Leona loved being a Catholic Daughter and was so very strong inher faith. She will be missed.

RITA OCHOA August 6, 1945 April 14, 2018
Rita joined Catholic Daughters December 6, 1989 and again May 5, 1993. She andManuel were married over 50 years but knew each other from childhood. They both feltthey had married their "soul mate" and were blessed with four children Suzanne, Jason, twins Michael and Zackary. They have ten grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.Rita volunteered at Holy Family "forever" and took over the chairmanship of the FuneralDinner Team when Martha Sigala died in 1998. She held that position probably 15 yearswhen her health was not great. She continued being a member of the Ministers of Hopeministry until the ALS (Lou Gerrigh's Disease) got worse. She was one of the mostbeautiful women I have ever known.
RUTH TOMB February 10, 1926 April 24, 2018
Ruth joined Catholic Daughters May 3, 1977. She had a daughter, Robin Baker, and sonRobert Tomb. Ruth was one of the first members of Holy Family who came to welcomeme to the church and we became great friends right from the first. Maybe it was becauseshe was from Massachusetts as was my family. When she was going to visit her sister inMassachusetts, she would always come into the office and let me know she would call mymotherinlaw in Natick, Mass., (which is very close to where she would be visiting). Iwould see her all the time in her very long and old yellow car as she was driving withMary Ann Kiskadden or Gigi Price to volunteer for the Olympics. Ruth was always oneof my "go to" gals for stuffing bulletins or parishwide mailings. She loved going to theFountain Valley Senior Center and was in charge of signing up our CDA members to serveat their Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners.

Memorare Prayer: Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin, Mary, that never was it knownthat anyone who fled to thy protection, implored they help, or sought thy intercession wasleft unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother! To thee I come. Before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful, O Mother of the wordincarnate! Despise not my petitions, but in my mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

TRIBUTE TO INDEPENDENCE DAY
A special day comes but once each year;
A day whose history we should know.A day to reflect on our way of life.
And pay homage to those who made it so.
One summer day so long ago, five daring men did meet;
Their goal: to be free from the Tyrant’s sting. They formed a plan known as the “Rights of Man”.
Would they be so brash as to defy the King?
Our forbears boldly signed that document,That declaration that still survives
And so committed, they did bravely pledgeTheir honor, their fortunes, and their very lives.
A historic announcement was made that day;A proclamation which they all believed
Would shed the shackles from across the sea,And thus our nation was conceived.
As the word was spread both far and wideThe Liberty Bell rang out for all to hear.
‘Twas heard with pride throughout the land; Its timbre crisp, so loud and clear.
Had this day not dawned back then in time,Would our lives be the same in every way? There are countless millions in far off lands
That seek what we take for granted every day.
Our freedom has been threatened thru the years,But patriots have turned back every foe.Our precious rights have been preserved
And Liberty’s light has never failed to glow.
Fly our Flag today, let your pride be seen,This bright and glorious summer morn.
It’s a day to honor, to feast and celebrate; It’s the day the USA was born.

It was abeautiful celebration with Father John Stearns, Court Chaplain, celebrating Mass, thechoir singing Mary's songs with us, the Knights of Columbus, Council #4636, in fullregalia, all our members processing in with flowers and singing and so many parishionersparticipating with us. The "cherry on the cake" was the crowning of the statue of Marywith flowers by our 2017 Member of the Year, Joann Champigny. Circle of Love MEMBERSHIP
Membership is a vital part of the Circle of Love it is always ongoing and soimportant if our court and our organization is to continue into the future. As we all know,we have lost five members since the first of the year to death I can't remember when wehave suffered such a loss. I borrowed from the Court Sts. Peter & Paul Regent's Reportfrom the 2017 State Convention: Everyone who is a Catholic Daughter at Sts. Peter &Paul is on our Membership Committee, not just a select few. Most women naturally wantto serve Our Lord by serving our neighbor. Our motto for membership is to "Do whatyou can, with what you have, where you are." We let the women know that they arewanted and needed in any capacity, especially to pray for our court and its mission toserve in unity and charity. Everyone has something to contribute and we communicatethat message on many levels. We also celebrate and acknowledge the accomplishmentsof the activities that the women are involved in, and continually encourage one another tocontinue to serve, even when it is difficult, reminding them that ultimately we are servingOur Lord together, and building a community of love.
WE ARE OFF FOR THE SUMMER !
We are off for the summer! Per our Standing Rules, our court will not meet in the monthsof July and August. We will resume our meetings on Saturday,September 1st (Labor DayWeekend) at 1:00 pm.

Tribute to Fathers' Day
Happy Father’s Day
Dads turn out all right… in time
Dads go through man stages in the eyes of their children:
Age 4: “My Daddy can do anything.”
Age 7: “My Dad knows a lot, a whole lot.”
Age 12: “Dad doesn’t know quite everything.”
Age 15: “Oh well, naturally Dad doesn’t understand.”
Age 21: “My father? Hopelessly oldfashioned and out of date.”
Age 25: “He has a good idea now and then,”
Age 35: “I must find out what Dad thinks about this.”
Age 50: “I wish I could talk it over with Dad once more.”
God, bless all the fathers in the world. Guide them to be good role models andloving to all their children. Help them to be a father like You are. Give them graceand patience to handle situations in a loving way. Amen.
Tribute to Memorial Day
MEMORIAL DAY TRIBUTEMay 28, 2018
Take a moment to reflect and pray:
To help reeducate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the“National Moment of Remembrance” resolution passed in December 2000 askingall Americans at 3pm local time “to voluntarily and informally observe in their ownway a Moment of Remembrance and Respect, pausing from whatever they re doingfor a moment of silence or listening to Taps.,”
“They answered their country’sCall to arms,
Into battle they did go.Where their final destination was,
No one will ever know.May their final resting place,Under some unknown sod,
Be forever hallowed,For it is known
Only unto God.”
