‘Amazon begins work on biggest campus outside US in Hydera-
bad’
Source: Zee News
Hyderabad: Global e-commerce giant Amazon on Wednesday commenced work
on its biggest campus in India in Hyderabad, which will be its largest facility out-
side the US.
The campus is coming up on nearly 10 acres of land in financial district
Gachibowli.
The new state-of-the-art campus is expected to be ready in 2019 and would
house thousands of employees managing backend operations for Amazon`s vari-
ous global business and technology teams.
Telangana`s IT minister K.T. Rama Rao laid the foundation for the facility in the
presence of David Zapolsky, Amazon`s senior vice president and general counsel
legal.
This marks Amazon`s second significant investment in the state in one year. Last
year, it had announced the launch of one of its biggest fulfilment centres in the
country near Hyderabad.
"Telangana has been home to our IT operations since 2005-06 and our presence
in the state has grown multifold since then. With a pool of quality talent, state-of-
the art infrastructure and a progressive government, the state was a natural
choice for us to set up our largest campus in India here," said Zapolsky.
"We are very excited with the growth momentum that we have been witnessing for
our India business. For Amazon, India continues to be one of our highest priority
investments and we plan to invest with a long-term focus," he added.
Amazon established its backend operations in Hyderabad in 2005-06. Today,
thousands of Amazonians work in Hyderabad lending backend support to not just
the India business but several business and technology teams across the world,
the company said.

‘Apple Opens its Development Centre in Hyderabad; Focus on Maps
and Navigations Services’
Source: Trak.in
Ever since Apple promised to set up a technology development centre outside
US, many countries, including India amongst larger European nations, were iden-
tified for an offshore centre. Finally, India got the green light and Hyderabad was
chosen as the city to host the office facility.
Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, inaugurated the development centre in Hyderabad on
19th May, as a part of his first visit to the country. The investment amount has not
been disclosed yet but the facility is expected to employ up to 4000 people. Earlier
this year, we had reported about this and the rumoured investment was in region
of $25 million
The iPhone maker has decided to open the centre to focus on Apple Maps, its
navigation services, which have been receiving a lot of flak from users. First things
first, Google Maps is hands down the best map service even for iOS users and
Apple has been trying very hard to match up to that level.
The centre has been opened in WaveRock SEZ area in Gachibowli, Hydera-
bad. The city is slowly becoming the tech-hub of the country and this is a prime
example of the same.
Talking at the inauguration, Tim Cook said, “Apple is focused on making the best
products and services in the world and we are thrilled to open this new office in
Hyderabad which will focus on Maps development.”

manufacturing facility in Hyderabad on Thursday. IT minister KT Rama Rao inau-
gurated the manufacturing unit.

has been made operational from scratch in flat six months and will have the ca-
pacity to manufacture one million mobile phone devices per month. The facility
currently employs 600 people and will increase the number to 1,000 employees by

ment, 1,691 units were sanctioned which brought an investment of `20,347 crore

On the occasion, Micromax co-founder Rajesh Agarwal said the company was
aiming to be the country’s first and largest indigenous phone manufacturer.
“We have been the front runners for the Make in India initiative by assembling the
products locally,” Agarwal said. “It is primarily due to the industry friendly ap-
proach and forward thinking of Telangana state government that we could set up

Oracle to Invest $400M in India, New Campus & 9 Incubation
Centres Coming Up Source: Trak.in
Oracle, one of the largest American computer technology company head-
quartered in California, now plans to invest $400 Million through three new
initiatives in India.
India is now seen as a major technical hub of the world with global com-
panies like Apple, Google and Amazon setting up large campuses outside
their home countries, to support their onshore services.
In a meeting with Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, Safra Catz,
CEO at Oracle, discussed her plans to invest in India’s technological abil-
ity and expertise. The following initiatives will be taken by Oracle:
1. Open a state-of-the-art Oracle campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka
2. Nine regional software and technology incubation centres across the country
3. Train over 500,000 Indian students every year
The numbers look extremely encouraging on paper, and the growth of IT
sector in the silicon valley of India has encouraged a lot of firms to open a
base to house technical experts and product guys.
Opening about the plans for India, Safra Catz said, “Oracle has been in
India for over 25 years and during that time we’ve grown our investments
tremendously. In fact, India now represents our second largest employee
base outside of the US, with nearly 40,000 current employees and an ad-
ditional 2,000 current job openings.”
She further added, “We are investing over $400 million in Bengaluru,
opening nine incubation centres and training half a million students each
year during this expansion phase to support India’s tremendous growth.”
Oracle’s plans in depth
The avant-garde campus will be developed in Bangalore with an area of
2.8 Million square feet and will the largest campus outside Oracle’s head-
quarters in California.

The facility is expected to house 11,000 employees from different fields of Sci-
ence & Technology, Engineering, Finance, Arts and Management.
The nine incubation centres will be opened in Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Mumbai,
Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Noida, Trivandrum and Vijaywada. They will
support the prospering entrepreneurship and startup ideas in India that do not
have access to the best software tools, trainings and sufficient experience.
Oracle will be providing aid to startups based on its Java and Oracle platforms
by offering tools and softwares for growth.
The Redwood Shore based technology company also plans to involve local
schools and universities in training half a million students every year in com-
puter science and computer skills. Everyone knows that an investment in edu-
cation can help grow the future of India.
Oracle Academy already provides training to students in Java and Oracle plat-
forms which will give them enough knowledge of software and computer skills,
an essential for any startup these days.
This is an excellent news for not just the working population in India, but also
students who idolise California based startups and wish to become an entre-
preneur. While the timelines haven’t been revealed yet, we will be following up
on this soon. Stay tuned for more information!
