It was extremely difficult from a school point of view as we could not offer the services that we would normally provide. Many thanks to the parents who found other forms of child care while we coped with the situation here. We have had all of our rooms back to full functioning except for 4CH which is currently operating in the library until the carpets are fully dry. I would like to welcome Ms Hannah Rossington to Berkeley Vale PS; Hannah is Relieving Stage 2 coordi- nator and class teacher of 3R (formerly 3C) for the remainder of this term while Mr Mark Crayn is on Long Service Leave. Even though we have had Mrs Jeana Trasler at our school last term teaching on 3/4T we officially welcome her this term as a permanent mem- ber of our staff. Last but definitely not least we wel- come Mrs Suzanne Rorich who has taken up the posi- tion of Curriculum Leader K-6. This is an exciting posi- tion as we head towards implementing innovative prac- tice and programs into teaching and learning programs as part of our 3 year School Plan. This term we will be advertising the Deputy Principal (DP) position and, whilst this process is taking place. Mrs Sharon Hoult will remain in the relieving DP position for term 2 with the focus on welfare K-6 and Mrs Kelly Happ will con- tinue as Early stage 1 coordinator. This term is filled with lots of opportunities for students to represent the school academically, sporting and in the arts and it is important to remember that these additional things including excursions are a privilege and not a right. It is essential that students maintain outstanding behaviour both in class and in the play- ground to ensure their participation. Next week we have NAPLAN for all of our year 3 and 5 students and it is therefore essential that these students turn up at school on time and prepared for this. The results help drive both our whole school programs and the individual class, teaching and learning. These results will be available to parents at the end of September. Tomorrow we are holding our Term 2 cake stall and to our Kindergarten parents we would like to thankyou for helping us by providing the items for sale. The money raised from this will go directly back to students through our PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) reward days. It was so lovely to be part of The Entrance ANZAC Day march with the students and teachers who gave up their day to represent the school. Year 3-6 Cross-Country Carnival 2015

The last day of term was a glorious day for the running of our Annual Primary School Cross-Country Carnival for all Years 3 to 6. It was great to see all students participating and completing either the Short Course or more challenging Long Course down to Kurraba Oval and around the footpaths of the school. There were lots of personal best results and super performances. Everyone was a winner on the day with the Top Twenty Students in each event receiving a sticker when they finished as well as a well deserved ice-block. All other finishers also received an ice-block for their participation. Special thanks to Mrs Robyn Brunton for purchasing the ice-blocks. Congratulations to the first three place-getters who received a place certificate on the day. Later this term the winners will receive their place ribbon at the Years 3-6 Assembly. Heron House was this year’s winner of the Cross-Country Carnival. Congratulations to all the runners who helped their house to win. In second place was Ibis House with Egret third and Jabiru in fourth position.

Anzac Day Ceremony

We wish to thank all the children who attended the ANZAC Day Cere-mony at The Entrance last Saturday 25 April. We had well over 50 chil-dren dressed in our school uniform or participating in other groups and organisations marching in the ceremony. Our Captains and Prefects who attended looked especially well presented in their uniforms repre-senting our school. We wish to thank all the children who have brought in their ANZAC Day projects. Many are now on display in the windows of local businesses or in the foyer of our office area. Three $100 prizes will be given to three winners of the competition this Friday at our ANZAC Day Assembly. These prizes have been donated by The Entrance/Long Jetty RSL. Our school ANZAC Day Ceremony is now on this Friday 1 May at 10.30. Student Recounts of ANZAC Day Ceremony at The Entrance On Saturday 25 April students from Berkeley Vale attended the Anzac Day march at The Entrance. When all of the schools were marching we saw men and women who fought in the wars. We also saw the 2 fighter jets fly over our heads, they were very loud! Next, all of the School Captains and leaders went and laid a wreath. We heard some powerful stories from people that had been to war and people that knew friends or family that had gone to war. People wore rosemary to show their appreciation and also wore poppies and medals from the war. It was a wonderful day!! We would like to thank Ms Armour and all the teachers for supporting Berkeley Vale and making us feel proud.

Stewart House Donation Drive 2015 Need a break? To be in the draw for a $4 000 holiday, destination of your choice, just put a $2 coin in the envelope your child brought home today. Please return it to the school by Friday 8 May as the school will then send off all the envelopes. The raffle will be drawn in Sydney on 22 May and the lucky winner will be notified by telephone and mail. This is a wonderful charity supported by donations from teachers and all the students who attend public schools in NSW. Currently two of our lucky students are enjoying a break at Stewart House, Manly. On Melbourne Cap Day in November there will be some fantastic key rings for sale to help raise funds to support Stewart House.

Can Recycling Thank you to those families who have been supporting our can recy-cling program by bringing in aluminium cans on Thursdays. Please remember to clearly label with your name, class and amount of cans brought in so that your reward and certificate can be organised promptly. If you have any questions regarding the cans recycling program, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Scully or Miss Farrugia.

Mother’s Day Breakfast Calling all Mums! Next Friday 8 May you are invited to a Mother’s Day breakfast from 7am in the CoolZone. You will be treated to a yummy break-fast and be entertained by our wonderful dancers and choir. Invi-tations from your children will be coming out soon. Children may join in the breakfast for a gold coin donation. We hope to see you there! Events Committee

Stage 2 News Wow, what a start to a new term at BVPS! It has been wonderful to meet the students in Stage 2, especially my new class, 3R. I am really looking forward to being part of the fantastic things that BVPS offers students and the community. This term Stage 2 students will be busy with swimming for sport, NAPLAN for Year 3, camp for Year 4 and striving to do their best in everyday classroom lessons. Next week on Wednesday night, Mrs Trasler and I will be holding an information session to introduce ourselves, meet our class families and communicate our classroom happenings. A note will go home with the 3R and 3/4T students. With the weather getting colder this is a quick reminder that all jumpers and hats need to be labelled in the event of them being misplaced, thank you again.

Anzac Day Parade Last Saturday, many students from Stage 2 represented our school at the ANZAC Day ceremony at The Entrance. On behalf of the Stage 2 teachers, I would like to thank and congratulate these stu-dents for being part of this special day, wearing their uniform with pride and taking the time to commemorate our special heroes of war.

Hannah Rossington (Stage 2 Supervisor)

The 100 year Gallipoli Anniversary ANZAC Ceremony definitely evokes emotion. We would like to thank all the soldiers who fought for our country. For the people who lost their lives their families were there to represent them. Lest we forget.

Indiah Ellis 6B On behalf of all students at Berkeley Vale, I would like to thank all the students who turned up to the ANZAC Day Ceremony at The Entrance on Saturday 25 April. Thank you for attending the march and remembering all those who fought so bravely on the battlefields of World War I and World War II. Lest We Forget 2015.
