Omega Mu has been growing at a phenomenal rate since its founding. In addition to this physical growth, our chapter has improved academically. On November 13th, 2014, the chapter was awarded the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award for Continued Excellence for the 2013-2014 academic year. Our chapter drastically improved its average GPA among members during this school year and began the Fall 2014 semester with an average GPA ranked 5th among 26 fraternities on campus. This is a great honor for our chapter, being recently founded and so recognized on campus. We plan to continue this academic improvement and become ranked in the top 3 for GPA on campus within the coming year.

In support of our drive to be the best chapter on campus, our former Scholarship Chair, Brandon Cloud, implemented “Deke of the

Week” this fall semester which recognized academically dedicated members each week and encouraged members to improve academically with some friendly competition. Our new Scholarship Chair, Greg Yang, is continuing this installment, as it has shown itself to be beneficial to our members.

The members of Omega Mu are ecstatic to welcome 10 new members this semester. These new members have truly exemplified the Objects of Delta Kappa Epsilon, as well as shown themselves to be true gentlemen, scholars, and the jolliest and best of fellows.

Our new members are Craig Blansett, Brody Consolino, Brian Dorey, Talvinder Grewel, Drew Hogan, Preston Lee, Sotoukie Lor, Stephen Phaling, Jake Tyler, and Jordan Walters. These new members are keen to participate actively in the chapter, as shown by their involvement as pledges as well as our recent elections.

The chapter held its officer elections on November 17, 2014. Since our chapter founding in May of 2012, Omega Mu has skyrocketed on the Oklahoma State campus and within DKE nationally. We have grown extraordinarily well compared to other fraternities on the OSU campus. We have successfully installed an annual philanthropy called Greek Town Grill Down raising money for the United Services Organizations (USO) in which almost all of the other Greek houses on campus partake to support out troops abroad. In addition to this outward growth, internally we have also grown. As mentioned previously, we were recently awarded with an award recognizing the scholarly efforts of the chapter. All of this growth and recognition is a wonderful reward for our brothers who have dedicated so much time and effort to make this chapter successful. As our founders begin to graduate, the members of Omega Mu are excited to take on the responsibility of the momentum they installed on the chapter. In this context, our most recent elections hold significant importance. This next year will be pivotal for our chapter’s success on the OSU campus and nationally, and our new officers and general members alike are eager to carry this momentum of success and growth to the next level.

We had an eventful tailgating this season at Omega Mu. The OSU home game tailgates were a success this year with friends and family stopping by to get a drink, grab some food, or stand by the fire pit. The second annual “Parent and Alumni Tailgate” was a big hit again with many members’ families participating.

The tailgate was held on October 4th against our Big 12 competitors Iowa State. The cowboys came out and won 37-20. Members and family stopped by before and after the game to enjoy music, food, and tailgate games. The Rho Lambda Deke’s at OU invited us down to Norman for the Kansas State game. Even though in Norman, it did not stop OSU and OU Dekes from enjoying each other’s company. This was a wonderful opportunity for most of our chapter’s members to meet alumni from nearby.

The Rho Lambda Deke alumni also generously donated $300 to our chapter for social purposes.

A Semester of Plenty… of Tailgating

Philanthropy Hello, my name is Blayne Bettinger. I am the Philanthropy chair for Delta Kappa Epsilon, Omega Mu Chapter. Last semester we participated in a wide variety of events benefitting the community of Stillwater: Alpha Delta Pi’s Pi-Athalon with a pie eating contest, pie races, and pie throwing contest; House of Pancakes with pancakes, bacon, and socializing; and Chi-O Wish week. This last event was a weeklong event where members are encouraged to stay on Chi Omega’s lawn and participate in events that last throughout the week. Kappa Kappa Gamma is a sorority on campus with particularly close ties to our chapter, and they held multiple events this semester. These events ranged from eating tacos at Kappa con Queso, and a kickball tournament called Kappa Kickball. Each of events raised money for a specific charity in the community, much as our Greek Town Grill Down event will. The spring semester will bring more opportunities to help others.

Best wishes,

Blayne Bettinger
