Three of our PGDM (OBU) & BBA 1st Year students (Mohit Sharma, Mohit Saini and Raj Joshi) are being hon-ored by AIRTEL in the Annual Gen-eral Meeting at EPICENTRE today at 16.30 hrs. The GM Airtel has called personally called the two students with lot of appreciation for these two students. The reason behind the appreciation is; a month ago just after joining IIMT, there was an accident that happened at IFFCO Chowk near Signature Tow-

er, a commercial vehicle had hit a mo-tor bike rider and pillion. One received severe head injury and the second person had a minor injury. Our stu-

dents had helped the injured with the basic first aid in the mean while the police had called the ambulance and took the injured to the nearest hospi-tal. Infact, none of the passerby had the courage to help the injured.

The motor bike rider who had multiple head injuries is an employee of Bharti Airtel at a senior finance position.

Innovation Challenge Winners Trip

On 27th of June, we were to de-part for our trip to London. It was a whole new expe-rience. London is an amazing place to visit. We visited The Buckingham Pal-ace, The London Eye, The Tower

of London, The Crown Jewels, BMW Production Plant, The Oxford Brookes University and many more places. The journey was a great learning curve in my life. To know people from places at the other parts of the globe and to learn about their lifestyles was indeed

Oxford Brookes University As we Saw ita golden opportunity for me.We stayed at London for 5 days, all 5 being really very memorable for me.“Memories are all you have...” is an oft saying. After my return from the UK Trip, I can feel the change in myself. Thanks to IIMT and PAS. I am really grateful to everyone who was a part of the project in any manner. Many many thanks to IIMT for organising such a wonderful event that lifts up the spirit of students like us.Today, while I sit by the fields near my home, writing this note, I can feel the wind caressing me. I can hear the chir-ruping of birds and can feel the blaze of the evening sunshine. I wasn’t an aca-

demic genius. I wasn’t a “sporty” type. I wasn’t good in fine arts or in painting or in music or in dance. Then neither had I had a charming personality. I was not good looking either. But at the end of the day, what matters is the amount of labour you have put in. Give it a hun-dred percent and you’ll get a hundred percent. That’s what I’ve learnt. The IIMT journey taught me a great lesson..“The Road does not end for anybody...It starts from where you start...”Mayank Kumar, The Pentecostal Assembly School Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand

IIMT Innovation Challenge these three words have left an inerasable imprint on my life. It gave me the platform to rise above oth-ers and show the innovative mind within me. It

gave me and my group member Ma-yank Kumar an opportunity to put for-ward our idea of purifying chimney’s exhaust so as to reduce air pollution and consequent global warming. We worked hours for this, worked even on holidays. Made draft and finally our idea got selected amongst top 17 schools in India and we were called for giving presentation in Radisson hotel, New Delhi. Then the time came for presentation, we gave it and finally the results came. I was stunned when it was announced that The Pentecos-tal Assembly won the first prize. We got a trip to UK, was that really true or

I was just dreaming. I mean the thing that I only used to think in my dreams, but yes it was true IIMT paid me for my hard work. Then the time came for going to the UK. I was not having any experience of flying in an airplane ever before. We boarded the flight from Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. Af-ter 9 hours of journey finally I landed in the land that I had been dreaming about ever since we won the Innova-tion Challenge. It was an awesome experience there. I have never had such type of an exposure ever before. I did many things there - saw London, the London Eye, the Big Ben, Thames and many more places. The Kohinoor diamond in the Crown Jewels col-lection was of special interest and it was wonderful to be able to catch a glimpse of it. The next day we went to the Oxford Brookes University. Meet-ing the Associate Dean of the Oxford Brookes University and sharing our ideas with him was a big milestone. The visit to the BMW Mini Production

plant in Oxford was also an enriching experience. We also went to the Ox-ford University; I cannot explain my feeling in words when I visited Christ College as well as other academic in-stitutions in Oxford. It was really awe-some. I had a great time there not even realizing how those 5 days just flew past.I would really like to thank IIMT and Oxford Brookes University for provid-ing such an opportunity.I am also thankful to my school, all those persons who guided me in me in taking me to such heights especial-ly Mr. Daniel Michael Prasad and Mrs. Karuna Prasad. I am also thankful to my family because of which I am here, my existence is because of them and for them. Last but not the least I am very much thankful to my group mem-ber Mayank Kumar.

Post Graduate Students Visit UK, 29th June to 3rd July, 2013

Exposure and knowledge of business prospects and opportunities around the world is an integral part of the IIMT PGDM curriculum. As part of the PGDM experience, IIMT Gurgaon or-ganized an international edufun trip to UK for the PGDM students from 29th June to 3rd July 2013. The aim of the visit was mainly to expose the stu-

dents to the global business culture and to enhance a student’s outlook and promote growth essential for de-veloping leaders who would have the ability to handle and deal with issues relating to business and other societal matters in a competent fashion. The visit introduced the students to the history and culture of London and provided them the opportunity to ex-plore the business and academic in-stitutions. During the visit the students visited to the Westminster Abbey Cor-onation Church down to The Big Ben and then walking past Hyde Park on to watch the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace. A complete London Experience in itself and to add to it the ride on the London Eye gave them a breath-taking view of the meandering river Thames as well as the Famous London landmarks – the Houses of Parliament, the Wembley Stadium as well as the other amazing sights. The students got an amazing opportunity to visit the Crown Jewels as well as the Kohinoor at the Tower

of London, A UNESCO world heritage site. The second day included the trip to Oxford the university town and home of the University of Oxford, the oldest university in the country. The friendly

welcome at Oxford Brookes Universi-ty, Wheatley Campus by Grant Clend-ining (Client Manager- International Partner Development) was much ap-preciated and he made the students feel much at home. The group also attended a lecture by Dr Gabor Lu-kacs, Programme Lead for MSc Pro-

grammes on strategic management and were astonished by the use of technology in the classrooms.Later in the afternoon the students were accompanied by David Ainslie (International Partnerships Develop-ment Team Leader, Oxford Brookes University Business School) to the BMW Mini Production plant at Ox-ford. The visit was very enriching for the students as they could relate the classroom theory with the actual as-sembly line. The visit to a famous academic town is incomplete without visiting the famous colleges that has taught many of our past and present day world leaders. So the third day followed with the Ox-ford city tour with the tour guide, Mr Ian Mitchell. It was a great opportunity for the students to walk through the doors of Christ College and appreci-

ate the college in its entire splendor. The tour guide, kept the group aware

with all the facts of the college as well as the fun facts of which parts of it was used in which Harry Potter movie. A visit to Christ College Cathedral – the smallest cathedral in England too was an enriching experience. A walk down the streets of Oxford glancing through the various colleges big and small on a Rainy English day was definitely an unforgettable experience for the group. The last day at London was a shop-aholic’s delight with the visit to the Oxford Street, Bond Street, Covent Garden’s as well as watching a few live performances on the streets close to Piccadilly Circus. On the whole though it was a pretty tight schedule the students enjoyed a lot. This im-mersion trip had a lot to offer to the students and was very memorable.

The 6th International Conference on Services Management - June 23-25, 2013

A research paper titled as “Culinary Heritage, a potential socio-economic

The 6th International conference on services management was organized jointly by IIMT, India, Oxford Brookes University, UK and Virginia tech Uni-versity at the Acapulco Beach Re-sort, Cyprus. I have attended the pre-vious two editions of this conference and was privileged to attend this edi-tion. There was a special track for the PhD students. The conference had a good blend of papers being presented by the researchers across the globe. A good number of papers incorporated empirical studies using advanced multivariate techniques. A special session was organized by the editors of seven esteemed journals. The conference also provided op-portunity for the researchers to take a break and do some sightseeing on a daylong trip. Concisely, the confer-ence opened great avenues for as I got some useful comments and sug-gestions from the research fraternity, which will help me in my research avenues.Paper 1: A study of factors contrib-uting to tourist satisfaction at herit-age sites in India (Co-author; Prof. S Munjal, IIMT Gurgaon).

value driver: The Chandni Chowk experience”, was presented at sixth International conference on services management held in North Cyprus. The paper was jointly authored by Mr. Sandeep Munjal and Mr. Sanjay Sharma with the focus to probe the commercial expression of culinary heritage and determine if the same can emerge as quintessential socio-economic value creator. An idea to such research was initiated keeping in mind India’s diversity, rich culture and heritage and to see if the same rich-

This paper was based on a survey-based study conducted at two impor-tant Heritage sites in India viz., City Palace Museum, Udaipur and Qutab Minar, New Delhi. The key objective of the paper was to explore the fac-tors, which contribute to the satisfac-tion of tourists at the various heritage sites in India. It was concluded that factors viz., staff attitude and gen-eral facilities, merchandise, food and beverage and accessibility could be used to measure the tourist satisfac-tion scale, which were based on 13 scale items. Management of these factors will help the site management in improving the visitor satisfaction.Paper 2: Retail Service Quality and Shopper’s Demographics: A study of retail customers in the National Capi-tal Region (NCR), India (Co-author; Dr. Kartik Dave, BIMTECH, Greater Noida). This paper was based on a study conducted on apparel retail shoppers in the Delhi and NCR. Segmentation of the market is an important aspect and is essentially useful in the or-ganized retail environment. Although studies on retail service quality have been conducted in various contexts, this study adds a new dimension to the scale, which is based on the am-bient factors under the retail service quality scale. In addition, how these factors are perceived based on dif-ferent demographic factors is empiri-cally tested. The shopper’s profile is always very complex and this would

ness will find expression in its food as well. Our culinary heritage and its di-versity are well recognised, but does it have the potential to act as a value driver that renders sustainability to both the traditional food and its pro-ducers, ensuring its continuity to fu-ture generations? Can it be deployed as an asset that turns locations into culinary destinations? The research findings have practical implementa-tions at various levels and were well appreciated by the fellow researchers at the conference.

help in demystifying the same.Paper 3: An Exploration of Res-taurant Service Quality Factors in India (Co-author; Dr. Kartik Dave, BIMTECH, Greater Noida). This paper is based on a study per-taining to the service quality dimen-sions in the restaurant industry. Ser-vice quality studies pertaining to the restaurant industry in Indian context are very limited. The study takes cog-nizance of the differences in the In-dian context and hence provides an enhanced scale, which is extended

from the popular DINESERV scale (Stevens et al., 1995). In addition, this study will provide direction to the research in measuring service quality dimensions in restaurants in the In-dian context. The restaurant manag-ers would also find this help as ser-vice quality dimensions are primarily known for their influence on custom-er satisfaction, which in turn affects the behavioural intentions.

(NSIC), class of 2011 with Dr. Rumki Bandyopadhyay went on an industrial visit to their campus on 13-11-2013. It was the day we were all waiting for as we were aware that the trip is going to be very informa-tive. During the presentation we came to know what NSIC does, how it em-ployees unemployed people and how it produces best out of nothing. Some of the products like soya milk, biscuits, toilet paper, tomato ketchup, ice cream cone, paper plate, RO wa-ter etc. are produced at NSIC. NSIC also runs a program where people can enroll to learn more about the production process and during they process they will also be certified by the government of India at a very nominal fee. Apart from briefing us about NSIC host was kind enough to boost us up for our future. At 1200 hours we were taken towards the production area where an instructor took us through the machines and showed us the production process of all the products they manufactured. Everything from the presentation to the production area was very much informative. There was an exhibition going on at NSIC but we unfortunately could not make it to the exhibition but it was not at all disappointing because we had gained all the information and even more than what we had expected form NSIC. They say you cannot cross every (t) and dot every (i) in life, therefore we were happy with the information we had gathered from the organization. We left the premises at 1500 hours and the informative, interesting and successful visit came to an end. We express our heartiest thanks to Dr. Rumki Bandyopadhyay who took the initiative and arranged this visit for us. We look for-ward for more of such visits from the institute. Visits like NSIC would definitely act as ‘cherry on sundae’ to our profes-sional career.
