Principals Report
Reporting to Parents Our teachers have been burning the midnight oil finalizing assessments and writing reports that detail student progress for the first semester of the school year. The reports will contain a statement on student behaviour and the effort that is applied to learning activities. Parents will be able to view the achievement levels in all subjects covered at school. Areas of strength and those areas that require improvement will also be identified. The reports will be sent home in the student’s portfolio to parents on Friday 23rd June 2017. Parent/Teacher Interviews Notes regarding Parent/Teacher Interviews were sent home yesterday. In the note we inadvertently neglected to provide the opportunity for you to nominate the day. On the original note next to the preferred time, please indicate the day on which you would like the interview. Parent/Teacher Interviews will be conducted on Wednesday 28th June and Thursday 29th June 2017.
It is requested that parents bring their child’s portfolio with them to the interview. The children are also required to attend the interviews.
This week has been a particularly busy one for me as now that teachers have completed the task of writing the reports, I now burn the midnight oil reading them. I also read all portfolios and together with the knowledge of the students confirmed by the reports that I read, I develop a very strong understanding of each child’s strengths and needs relating to improvements. It is a part of my role that I enjoy doing, particularly the exchange that I have with the children when I catch up with them around the school as a result. It is great to be able to personally encourage the children as well as offer the words that are necessary if ‘those socks need pulling up”!
I am sure that our parents will be as proud of their child’s work as we are at school. The majority of our students always approach their work commitments with an attitude that ensures only the best outcomes. Work Experience Students
In the final week of term, Hannah Prout, Jordan Robinson and Hayley Baumgarth will join our staff for one week of work experience opportunities. The students, who attend Emerald Secondary College, will be timetabled across the school to experience life in a primary school at all grade levels. We are looking forward to sharing our school life with Hannah, Jordan and Hayley. Principal Conference
On Monday 19th June and Tuesday 20th June I will be attending the North East Victoria Principal Symposium at the Melbourne Convention Centre. The emphasis of the conference is Inspired Teaching and Learning: Creating the Education State. The conference outline looks very exciting and I am really looking forward to learning from some much esteemed key note speakers. China Host We are looking for a family that maybe interested in hosting 2 student boys from China from July 23rd – 30th July. Families will be provided with $100-$200 per student to support the experience. If you think you may be interested please feel free to contact myself or Meredith.
Meredith Smith will be ‘steering the ship’ during my absence.

Cooking with the PFA
Wednesday afternoon FS made
sandwiches with the PFA.
To begin we washed our
hands and put on our
aprons.
The students started off with some detailed
instructions, two slices of bread, a
plastic plate, a knife and some
butter or cream cheese.
The buttering of our bread was
difficult but we persevered and
conquered the tasks.
Next came our creativity by putting
the topping on. Some of us even tried
things we had never had on a sandwich
before.

Lastly came the fun part- EATING nom nom, yum yum.
Thank you to our wonderful PFA and Parents for
helping us learn a new skill and fill our bellies.
You helped us shine like the stars we are!

Cooking Program Every Wednesday
* Hot Chip, Cold Drink and Cadbury Chocolate Day Tuesday 27th June
The Cooking Program started two Wednesdays ago, and what a fantastic time we have had cooking with the kids. We made Butterscotch Scrolls, cleaned up our mess, wiped dishes, smelled the amazing smell of the scrolls while they were cooking, then ate them with great
enthusiasm while they were still warm. FS made sandwiches this week, and it was wonderful to see everyone buttering their bread, choosing their sandwich toppings (choice of ham,
cheese, tuna, egg, cream cheese, carrot, cucumber, lettuce or tomato) and then assembling their sandwiches. Then FS absolutely demolished their sandwiches in record time, and there
were even a few repeat customers! All in all…… a huge success.
A very big THANK YOU to the parents who came along to help us
We could not run the cooking program without your help! If you are thinking of coming along to help, but haven’t returned your form yet, please get it in to
the Office. We really, really do need you!
