PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Winter has hit hard and fast this year and although we haven’t got the boiler system to heat the school, the split system air-conditioners have been given a pretty good workout and are managing to keep the classrooms comfortable. The rooms aren’t sweltering hot like they used to be, and students will need more than a t-shirt, but they are heated. Students have been allowed in to their bad weather rooms during break times during this extra cold snap. If you would like some extra pieces of uniform for your child, please contact Jarrod Policha, Student Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator, or the General Office, as we have a huge supply of donated uniform to give out.
School Council have decided that it is timely for a review of the school uniform policy. Starting with the request to incorporate leggings as part of the uniform, discussion led to the final decision being made that leggings would not become part of the regular uniform. Navy blue leggings may be worn as part of the sport uniform only.
Thanks to Kim Lane and Jarrod Policha for taking the Year 12 Art students on an excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne. They had a great day despite being stuck in traffic for 3 hours when coming home. The presenters were very impressed with the knowledge shown by all our Art students during presentations!

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Dear Parents & Students,
Yesterday saw MBSC send a large team of students to
the district cross-country running event in Beechworth.
Under the supervision of Jenny Farrington and Nick
Grimmer, our students once again displayed
outstanding behaviour and effort. Well done team on
your efforts!
We also had round two of the Year 7 Immunisation
program occur yesterday. I must apologise to our year 7
students as I thought that yesterday was the last lot of
needles, but there is still one more round to go later this
year! Any year 7 student that was absent yesterday will
have an opportunity to get their immunisations done at
school on the last day of term when the doctor and
nurses are back to immunise our lucky Year 10, 11 and
12 students (more information will be sent home in the
coming weeks).
Swiss and Chips, in conjunction with Falls Creek
Coach Service and other local businesses have banded
together to provide two lucky students free bus travel
and Falls Creek Alpine Resort entry every Saturday
during the 2017 snow season. This is not part of the
college program, but it is open to any current MBSC
student. An information evening about this wonderful
opportunity will be held at Swiss and Chips at 8pm
next Tuesday night the 6th of June. Any interested
students who would like to go into the draw to win the
bus seats and resort entry, must submit their name to
Mr Wilson no later than Wednesday lunchtime. The
weekly winners will be announced every Thursday.
There is now only one week of classes left before the
Year 11 & 12 mid-year exams. In what can be a
stressful time, parents, friends and family are key
support networks to help control this stress. If any
families are overly concerned, please do not hesitate to
contact the College.
Even with the brilliant blue sunny skies of the past two
days, the mornings (and days) have become much
cooler. Please make sure that your child(ren) is
appropriately clothed. If a part of the uniform is not
available to wear, please provide a note. Jackets may be
worn when outside, but they are not needed during
class time as each room has a heater.
This week’s ‘House Competition’ riddle is up on the
whiteboard in my office. All students can earn points
for their house by attempting the problem and placing
their answer in the provided box. Points update:
Feathertop 1440; Hotham 1435; Bogong 1155.
Thankyou,
Ross Wilson
FREE MENINGOCOCCAL ACWY VACCINE
FOR YEARS 10, 11 AND 12
In 2017 the Victorian Secondary School Vaccine
Program will offer free meningococcal ACWY vaccine
to students in Years 10, 11 and 12 at the end of Term.
The vaccine provides protection against four strains of
meningococcal disease (ACWY) and is administered as
a single dose.
Parents/guardians of Year 10, 11 and 12 students
should look out for the Meningococcal ACWY
Secondary School Vaccine Program consent card
coming home soon from school with your child. You
need to read the information, complete and return the
card regardless of whether your child is being
vaccinated at school.
Adolescents are at increased risk of meningococcal
disease. Although uncommon, it can become life-
threatening, very quickly. There are different strains of
meningococcal bacteria known by letters of the
alphabet, including meningococcal A, B, C, W and Y. In
recent years, the meningococcal W strain has
increased across Australia, with Victoria experiencing
11 cases to date in 2017 and 48 cases in 2016,
compared to 17 cases in 2015, four in 2014 and one in
2013. It is now the predominant strain in Victoria.
The Alpine Shire Council immunisation service may
contact you about the meningococcal ACWY vaccine
program. Schools are authorised to provide basic
parent/guardian contact details to local councils for
this purpose. Contact the school by Wednesday 7
June 2017 if you do not want your contact details
given to the Alpine Shire Council immunisation service.
To learn more about meningococcal disease, the
meningococcal ACWY vaccine and how you can
prepare your child for vaccination, visit

BON FIRE NIGHT FUNDRAISER
During the recent community bonfire night organised
by the Champagne Club the Student Representative
Council ran a pizza fundraiser. The SRC approached
Flour and Water restaurant and Rocky kindly donated
the mobile pizza ovens and dough. They also
contacted North East Country Wholesale Food Service
who donated pizza toppings. Approximately 40 pizzas
were made and sold on the night and $350 was raised
for the school. Thank you to all involved in donating
ingredients or their time on the night to generously
support our school.

Managing Money students with Miss Sarah Hinde are

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK 27/5-
3/6
National Reconcilliation Week (NRW) is celebrated
across Australia each year between 27 May and 3
June. The dates commemorate two significant
milestones in the reconciliation journey-the
anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and
the High Court Mabo decision.
The week is a time for all Australians to learn about
our shared histories, cultures and achievements and
to explore how each of us can join the national
reconciliation effort.

introduced the mini-series of children’s ski races, four
races in total held (snow permitting) over June, July,
August and September. Our races are sponsored by a
local outdoor business, Snow Trek and Travel
