After 18 months in the planning of fundraising, of rehearsals, of performance, fine tuning our routines, purchases of new Trachten pieces, the arrival of the Austrians, the bulk purchase of the Apfelschnapps, the Alpenrosen crew gathered at the Brisbane Airport for the N a t i o n a l D a n c e f e s t adventure of 2015 in Adelaide on the Easter weekend. First stumble we seem to have too much luggage, considering we have 6 bell tables in tow … Kirby to the rescue – with binding tape … all sorted. Next challenge … where to feed hungry dancers on a public holiday on Good Friday … once again – Kirby to the rescue (he was actually trying to buy a beer, but had to order food … so we all joined him for lunch!) Our first injuries … Sandi was caught out by the uneven roadway on her walk home from the Club … and hubby Ron was attacked by a rose bush which seemingly jumped out at him! A lovely wander through the township of Hahndorf (on the search for breakfast) and the opportunity to experience a taste of the weekend’s entertainment was on our agenda for Saturday morning. (Luckily the Leather shop was open for repairs for a
Lederhosen blow out!). Congratulations to Kurt for capturing the only entire group photo taken at Hahndorf! The Dancefest then opened in the afternoon with a collective bell performance of the Australian and European National Anthems. The 13 International and National Dance Groups took to the floor. A range of traditional and modern takes on S c h u h p l a t t l e r w e r e performed over the two days at the Club. The highlight, of course, was the informal gatherings of old and newly met friends. The Alpenrosen were famous for their late night ‘meet ings’ held graciously in the hotel foyer! The Austrians became famous for the never-ending party spirit!! Our traditional Easter egg hunt took place on Sunday morning with Paula and Leanne as bunnies and Oma Rae as security, keeping prying eyes and fingers of the local children at bay while the Alpen juniors hunted for their treats. We are happy to report that all belongings came home – although a few items went missing for a time – Werner’s camera was eventually found in his shoes – 3 days after losing it; Jordan’s wallet was returned to him at the airport
from the transfer bus; and the Alpenrosen banner was retrieved after being left at the hotel in Adelaide … in whose room Oma Rae? Our day of departure saw the weather turn windy and wet … but never fear, Oma Rae is always prepared to protect the ‘fro’ hair do!! She suffered a personality crisis – renamed Cooper! Laughs were had a plenty and we are looking forward to sharing photos and video material of our experiences – after some careful editing!! An official DVD will be provided to the group by the Adelaide hosts, Bund der Bayern, but until then we will watch our film efforts and youtube clips which have been posted. We have regrouped after a short break to perform at the Club’s Anniversary Ball ... and before we know it the Oktoberfest season will be upon us once again. The next National Dancefest will be held in 2017 in Canberra, with St. Raphael’s Sydney Dance Group to host. And our good friends from Austria have been invited to return! They are very keen to join us again. From a rested Paula, on behalf of the Alpenrosen Dance crew

We have lots of old favourites for you to listen to and sing along with. The choir sang a few songs of their concert repertoire at the Anniversary Ball on the 22 May 2015 which were en-joyed by everyone. We are still looking for more singers to join our choir be-cause as you all know “Singen
macht froh (Singing makes happy)”. Therefore, let us all be happy in the future and sing, sing, sing. Please join us at our choir practice and sing along on Tuesday evenings from 6.30-9.00pm. at the German Club.

Mostly German, a few Australians, 3 kids under the table, 2 Swiss and 1 Austrian. To mix things up a group of 10 people headed to the Bavarian Bier Cafe for Friday after work drinks with views to the Story Bridge and some went on to dance it out afterwards.
As life seems to get busier it is difficult to meet occasionally d u e t o c o n f l i c t i n g appointments, so we are contempla t ing to mee t fortnightly to make it work better. If you miss one it is not 8 weeks between the last and the next meeting but only 2 weeks.
As of June/July we are trialling to meet every first and every third Tuesday of the month and
are happy to hear how that is being received.
The group is also planning on repeating last year’s winter event “Feuerzangenbowle” – where a rum soaked sugar cone is lit up so that it drips into spiced red wine.
De-li-ci-ous when the weather cools down.

A busy month with the German Club Anniversary Gala Ball and the Audi German Film Festival which showed a dozen films in only one week lies behind us. We attended the Opening Night and enjoyed a few of the great movies shown. We are feeling a little bit nostalgic as every year when the cooler days come around and it’s dark early. This weather invites to a hearty meal and some of the Stammtisch girls have been sharing their German recipes, cooking up a storm together. It started with Milchschnitte and the last recipe was Paprikaschoten (mince filled Capsicum). The May Stammtisch was a good international round with about 30 people:

“Treffpunkt” Social Club News
Bus Trip on 16 May 2015 Due to insufficient participants for this bus trip it had to be cancelled. On a happier note our president Oleg Zocchi and members Mario Zocchi (President of the Dance-group Alpenrosen) along with Dr. Paul Kennedy had a terrific time at the Dancefest in Adelaide over the Easter period this year. Some of our group members also went on another trip to Tenter-field again on the 30 May 2015.
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY Meet Catherine and baby Fe-licity Curtis, who won the ‘youngest baby’ prize at the Mothers Day competition held at the club on Sunday 10 May 2015. Father Mark (group member) is proud as punch and can’t stop grinning. I’m sure he will also enjoy the box of chocolates that Catherine and Felicity won.
Don’t forget that Thursday nights are practice nights for our dart games starting 6.00pm. Also, remember to have your “Zielwasser” (Target water) beforehand. Lots to choose from at the bar. Looking forward to see-ing many friendly faces there. For future activities, watch this space or contact Mario our event organiser. Next meeting will be held on Sunday 19 July 2015 at
