ASSEMBLIES Newsletter March 2016:

Dear Parents / Carers and Copenhagen Children,

This term is coming to an end but has been filled with some remarkable moments. My favour-

ite moments were when we saw children’s expressions of wonder during science week and

the great buzz that was created when the whole school carried out a times table test simul-

taneously. The winning year group was Year 4.

Y2 and Y6 have been incredibly busy getting prepared for the new end of year tests. We

wish them well and hope that they all pass their tests. A big thanks to all the staff that are

supporting the year groups -Y2 and Y6 team and all the staff supporting with Boosters. We

hope the children will show resilience and overcome all challenges.

I would like to reintroduce a coffee and chat meeting for parents. This will be every Friday

whereby you can contribute to the school letting us know what we are doing well and how

we can improve.

I hope you have a restful, chocolate egg filled Easter break.

Best wishes, Miss Patel

We have been very lucky to receive a grant for the ‘Families and Schools Together’ programme. This is run

by school staff, parent partners and community partners for families who have a child aged between 3-8.

Every week we sing, draw scribble, have ‘special play’ time and eat a meal together. Adults get time to

talk and get to know each other while the children play, and once a week a lucky family wins a prize

hamper of goodies. Children go home happy, fed and ready for bed!

Parents and children made some beautiful drawings last week, and look at these gorgeous photos from

the ‘special play’ time!

We still have spaces, so let Ms Clarke or the office staff know if you would like to attend.

Head Boy and Head Girl

Everybody in Year 6 are so excited for our Norfolk trip where we will do various activities such as: canoeing, climbing

and more. Also everybody got a homework project for science day. It’s a competition. Zeyna (Head Girl)

Year 6 Federer are learning new things week by week. We are doing lots of practise tests to prepare for the SATs next

month. Also, Mr Haji, Miss Sangaralingam and Miss Patel decided to change our tables into rows to prepare our class

for secondary school. We are continuing to do booster club to help students become better and pass their SATs. Year

6 Federer are going on a trip to Hautbois for 4 days and I think we are going to have fun. Aaron (Head Boy)

On Friday 18th March, Copenhagen Primary School came together (in all

our sports gear) to raise money for Sport Relief and The British Heart Foun-

dation. It was a great day for the whole school filled with skipping, running

and laughter all round (we even had a visit from Gunnersaurus!). We

raised just over £600 which is an unbelievable amount of money for two

fantastic causes and we would like to thank all the parents and children

involved. Here's to our next sporting event here at Copenhagen!

SAATCHI GALLERY

SPORT RELIEF DAY

Our current Year 4 Farah class carried out an arts project with St Martins. Out of 22,000 entries from across the world we were in the

final shortlist of 20 pieces. Three families, Mr Hussein, Mr Cheng, Miss Sangaralingam and Miss Patel went along to the prize winning

evening and although we did not win, we were extremely proud to have a prime place at the Saatchi Gallery. We were also fortu-

nate enough to meet the actual winner, a seven year old from Korea. This was a great achievement for our school. Please visit the

website below to see our art project.

Class Dojo is our whole school reward system which allows us to reward the children in the form of 'dojo

points'. Dojo points can be given for a number of different things such as working hard, sitting nicely on the

carpet, being kind etc. Every Thursday one class wins 'dojo class of the week'. This class is chosen by Miss

Patel and their prize is a small class party on a Friday afternoon. They win a bowl of

popcorn, a certificate and have a small celebration in class.

Copenhagen ICT - Mr. Bint

During 'Computing & Science' Week we aimed to

help our students understand that computers can

help us learn across all of the curriculum areas, in-

cluding Science, Maths, Literacy and Topic areas.

We began the week with a KS2 wide 'online' times

table competition whereby teams of 2-3 students

competed against each other to answer live num-

ber problems on Quizizz. We followed this on with

some integrated literacy and topic/science work to

discover the historical feats of famous scientists

such as Ada Lovelace, Louis Pasteur, Leonardo Da

Vinci and Albert Einstein. We researched this topic

using QR codes for the first time in our school and

then collaboratively compiled research banks us-

ing 'ThingLink' on the iPads.

We had a fantastic time at We Day where we

learnt about the different ways we can help

children and families all around the world.

We are going to make a difference from today!

We had a wonderful and successful hero and villain ‘world book day’. The children looked

amazing and carried on with their day as real heroes. I would like to say congratulations to

the children who won the best costume award and Miss Patel for winning the ‘best teacher

costume award.’ I hope children now understand the importance and the positive effect

reading has on their education and start to read more at home and in school. Finally, it is

important to remember ‘you don’t need superpowers to be a superhero’.

WE Day

SCIENCE WEEK

We have had a fantastic Science Week this year! The theme was 'Different Spaces' and

each class had to explore a different type of space in a scientific way (personal space, built

space, outer space, digital space and open space). Their work was showcased during our

Science Fair where all the children were buzzing from the excitement of learning new things

from other classes! The children were also set a homework project where they were given

straws to build their own space with. We had some fantastic entries and it was really great to

see how much effort was put into every piece. The winners will be announced very soon!

School starts at 9:10am and finishes at 3.30pm. Nursery finishes at 3.15pm. Please ensure your child is at school by

9am in order to be on time and that you pick your child up from school at 3.30pm (or 3.15pm if they are in Nurse-

ry).

Missing school makes it hard for children to catch up and pupils have to work harder when they return to school.

Please help your child maintain good attendance and punctuality by coming to school on time, booking doc-

tor/dentist/optician appointments for after school hours, at weekends or during school holidays.

If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, then please let us know. When your child returns to

school, please complete a pink absence slip and where appropriate provide a copy of the appointment card/

hospital letter.
