Welcome to Week 6, the half way point of Term 1.
LEADERSHIP TEAM
As an update from Garrie Russell’s post last week on relieving leadership
positions at Maroubra Junction PS. Jeff Gold will relieve in the Assistant
Principal role for Stage 3 until the end of term one. We welcome him to the
leadership team. Parents should see Jeff for any stage three related issues this
term.
COMPREHENSION SKILLS
This week all staff attended a professional learning session on comprehension
strategies, run by Dace Elletson—Principal of La Perouse Public School. This was
a fantastic and highly regarded session. Staff were informed of the importance
of six ‘super’ strategies;
predicting, questioning, making connections, visualising, monitoring and
summarising
Over the coming weeks staff will be teaching these strategies to all students. To
assist parents, each week we will focus on one strategy in the newsletter with
ways you can help at home.
STUDENT WELFARE
Last year our school revisited the school behaviour policy with the aim of a
consistent approach across all areas by staff, students and families. Parents can
help by talking about these values and rules with their children.
RESPECT Use good manners towards teachers and classmates , Be friendly and support others , Use kind words and actions , Be fair , Look after school property
LEARNING Listen and ask questions , Be a responsible learner , Take pride in your work , Try your best , Try new things
SAFETY Wear your school hat outside , Play safely in the right areas , Be a responsible Cyber Citizen , Think before you act , Use equipment the correct way
Have a great week everyone.

KISS & GO REMINDERS
The Kiss & Go Zone extends along the entire length of Loch Maree Street.
Parents are NOT permitted to park and/or leave their vehicles in the Kiss &
Go Zone.
Parents must be registered to use the Kiss & Go zone. Register at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YXVH2GD
Vehicle signs (provided by the school) must be displayed in the lower left
hand corner of your windscreen. This will alert the supervising teachers
about which children to have ready for collection.
Children will be dismissed from class at 3.00pm and should proceed directly
to the Kiss & Go zone. Please reinforce with your child the importance of
going straight to the gate upon dismissal.
If your child is not ready for collection, you may be asked to drive around
the block.
Parents should remain in the vehicle. It is important your child knows how to
fasten his/her own seatbelt though very young children may be assisted by
the supervising teacher if required.
Once seatbelts are fastened and doors closed, you should move off
promptly from the zone.
Please be PATIENT with supervising teachers.

A Messy Day!
Last Friday 4H cleaned up the
school as part of the Clean Up
Australia Day. The school ground
was messy but we didn’t care be-
cause we wanted to help the envi-
ronment. The paddock was very
messy; there were empty ice cups,
jelly cups and other rubbish scat-
tered around everywhere. What
do you think about that?!? When
we saw there was rubbish near by
the car park, we went there to
clean up as well. Next we went to
the garden area near our class-
room but there wasn’t as much
rubbish. As time went by, we
cleaned up around the big oak
tree. We found a student’s hat as
well as plenty of plastics. At the
end of the clean up, we weighed
the three quarter filled rubbish
bag. 4H collected 2 kilograms of
rubbish! That’s a lot! That’s rub-
bish!!
