t PRINCIPAL REPORT

Building Program

The science block refurbishment is progressing on time. Science experiments are a very important component of the science curriculum as they present a fun and engaging way to learn about science. This term all of our students have been able to continue to participate in science experiments in classes in our temporary science portable classrooms. Thanks needs to be given to the science staff for being creative and resilient in their thinking of how to incorporate this aspect of the curriculum for the students.

City of Monash All Schools Leadership Program Sean LEE and Rachel HUYNH were selected to attend the City of Monash All Schools Leadership Program for 1 week (30th April - 4th May). They went to Clayton Community Centre for a 5-day workshop where they developed knowledge and skills in group development, leadership styles, conflict resolution, effective communication, public speaking and project management. They participated in a range of hands on activities and challenges that provided them with opportunities to practice their new skills, receive constructive feedback and build their confidence in a safe and nurturing environment. They also explored the various ways these skills can be applied to the real world. The feedback from the students was that they felt the program was beneficial to their learning and development and they enjoyed meeting new friends.

The Presentation Night was a culmination of the program and it was positive to see the students receive their awards.

Year 7 Lunchtime House Basketball Tournament 30th April – 4th May

At the beginning of Term 2, Year 7 students filled out an expression of interest to take part in a basketball tournament that our sports captains had

been planning and organising in Term 1. The idea behind this tournament was to provide our Year 7 students with another opportunity to create new

friendships through sport where communication and teamwork is vital to achieve their best.

We were able to form 7 house teams. Our tournament ran every lunchtime Monday through to Friday with the Grand Final of the two teams who finished first and second on the ladder. Grevillea 2 finished on top of the ladder after the tournament and had to play Melaleuca 1 in the Grand Final.

Congratulations to Melaleuca who were crowned to Indoor Basketball Champions winning the Grand Final 7 – 3. Thank you to the following students who gave up their lunchtime to volunteer to referee these games: Liam Hewett, Year 10

Seth Gysberts, Year 10 Daniel Strapp, Year 10 Jake Glazner, Year 10

Kyle Balej, Year 10 Keeley O’Connell, Year 10 Samantha Bignell, Year 9

Grace Bignell, Year 12 Grace Zhang, Year 12

Also another big thanks goes to our sports captains Talia Allen, Hannah Darcy, Zoe Glazner, Luke Pearson, Carly Hewett and Grace Zhang who helped with the set-up, pack up, scoring and timing of games to ensure each lunchtime was enjoyable for our Year 7’s. All teams played in excellent spirit, they were all supportive of one another both playing and watching. Thank you to all involved, we thought it was a success! Miss Dwyer - Sport Coordinator
