  • Year 11 20th Century History – Jewish Holocaust

    Museum and Research Centre Excursion

On the 6th of May, the students of Ms Mauger’s 20th Century History class

travelled to the Jewish Holocaust Museum in Elsternwick. We arrived at

the museum at 12:30 and we were welcomed inside but not before

seeing an eternal flame burning just outside the door. We went upstairs

and were greeted and informed of what would be happening. A short film

was put on for us that described what the Holocaust was, when it

happened, why it happened and it taught us a lot of new information

about the persecution of the Jews, the concentration camps and the

effect it had on all those involved, that we never knew about before. Then

we went back downstairs to have a look around the museum with a guide

explaining photos and telling us stories about the Holocaust and the Jews.

We were then allowed to wander around the museum by ourselves to get

a deeper look at all the stories, photos and displays.

Our day excursion ended with a chance to listen to a Jewish Holocaust survivor named Joseph

Spring, he told us his story, discussing his part in the Holocaust and how he survived. It was a very

    interesting story, with happy

    and sad moments but

    overall it was very rewarding

to hear, in person, the story

    of a Holocaust survivor, it

gave us a chance to put a

    person to all the numbers

    associated with the

    Holocaust, e.g. 6 million

    Jews were killed by the

    Nazi’s and their

    collaborators.

We all enjoyed the trip and

learnt a lot of new things about the Holocaust and what the Jews endured during World War ll,

giving us a new understanding on the subject.

Pita-Will Purcell (G9A) has been selected to represent the Victorian Rugby League at the U/14 age group to

play at the NSW Country Championships held May 9th and 10th. These championships act as a stepping

stone for possible selection to play at the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League National Champion-

ships in Sydney in June. Good luck to Pita at these championships!

  • School Ties We invite any parent who has a Kambrya College tie, that is no longer required, to donate it to the school. The ties will be used to bolster the second hand uniform stock that we have on hand for stu-dents who find themselves without uniform items from time to time.
