Newsletter No. 2 - 20th September 2019
This week, some Year 6 pupils embarked on a residential visit to Trewern Outdoor
Education Centre located on the English/Welsh border. Over the course of the week,
they took part in a range of activities: gorge walking,
caving, BMX biking, climbing, orienteering, a night walk and a low ropes
course! They were also responsible for carrying out duties such as mak-
ing their own beds and cleaning up after meals developing their independence – an important part of our
school mission. All of the children have shown a great deal of perseverance, confidence (another part of
our mission!) and a number of fears were overcome with new skills learnt. The children have also fo-
cused on developing their teamwork and communication skills. A wonderful week was had by all and
they will come back with some brilliant memories that will last a life time! My heartfelt thanks goes to
Miss Anderson, Mr Whittle, Miss Rayner and Mrs Rayner for giving up their time to make such an experi-
ence possible.
This week, during our times of worship, we have continued to look at our school mission, focussing this
week on the aspect of confidence. Philippians 4:13 reminds us that “I can do all things through Christ
who gives me strength” and the children have been reflecting on how they can show confidence in their
approach to tackling challenges in the classroom, playground and within their relationships. We particu-
larly looked at the confidence shown by Daniel who was thrown into the lion’s den. Why not ask your
child if they can tell you the story?
Finally it has been wonderful to see so many parents at our meet the teacher events this week. Not only
have I enjoyed hearing about the positive start to the year the children have made but your comments
about our building upgrades have been lovely to receive. We continue to be grateful for our new and
improved facilities, and especially would like to thank Mrs James and Genesis Education Trust not only
for securing the money for such an undertaking but arranging and supervising these much needed works.
Have a wonderful weekend everybody; it should be a hot one!
