Newsletter No. 39 - January 2014

In this newsletter, we share with you the new after school enrichment programmes that are introduced to students this

term to develop their skills and interests in Art and Music.

Also featured in this issue are updates from the Prefectorial Board and CCA announcement concerning Year 11

students. We have included the new school calendar (Jan - Dec’14) in this newsletter, please take note of the updated

dates for TIS Parents’ Evening.

Orientation Day.

After School Enrichment Programmes My Art Journal - Art Enrichment Class

Day & Time: Thursdays, 1.40pm to 2.40pm (60 minutes) Target Group: Years 1 & 2, KSSR 1 Dates: 10 sessions starting from Thursday, 23 January 2014 Payment: RM 250 (inclusive of materials)

Violin Group - Music Enrichment

Day & Time: Tuesdays, 1.45pm to 2.45pm (starting from 28 January 2014)* Venue: Early Years Centre Target Group: Year 1 & 2 and KSSR 1 Class Size: Min 6 and limited to 12 students Fee: RM100 per term (10 classes) * Please note that there will be a free introductory class on Tuesday, 21 Jan-uary 2014 where students who are interested can try playing the violin.

Handbell Group

Day & Time: Wednesdays, 1.45pm to 2.45pm Venue: Early Years Centre Target Group: Year 1 & 2 and KSSR 1 Class size: Min 10 and limited to 25 students Fee: RM100 per term (10 classes)

Yayasan Dayadiri This year, 8 bumiputera students from Chinese primary schools were awarded the Yayasan Dayadiri scholarship to study at Sekolah Ten-by Ipoh. This is the fourth batch of scholars to join the school since 2010.

Yayasan DayaDiri is a Malaysian foundation that funds various educa-tion and community development initiatives for the Bumiputera com-munity.

Violin for Year 3, KSSR 2 and above For late beginners and violinists who wish to develop their technique and also an opportunity to perform in an ensemble. Day/Time: Tuesday, 3.15pm - 4.15pm (starting from 28 Jan 2014)* Venue: Music Room 1 Target Group: Year 3, KSSR 2 and above Class Size: Min 6 and limited to 12 students Teachers in Charge: Mr David Chu and Ms Yeoh Choo Swee Fee: RM 150 per term (10 classes) *Please note that there will be a free introductory class on Tuesday, 21 Jan 2014 for students who are interested to try playing the violin.

School Prefectorial Board We are pleased to an-nounce that we have 18 new prefects joining the board this term!

A total of 35 applications were received last term, and all applicants were interviewed by the Princi-pal and Director of School. The new prefects will be on probation for a term.

Also, as we have new students joining us this year, the Prefectorial Board will be accepting applications from KBSM 1 to 5 and more information about this new selection will be released next week.

The investiture ceremony for the new prefects will also be announced later.

New in school! Students can now play the Gamelan (percussion instruments from South East Asia), African Drums and Hand Chimes for CCA (Music Instrumental Group). For more information, please refer to the circular attached to this newsletter.

CCA - Year 11 A circular (IIS.108.2014) concerning Year 11 students were released last week.

In preparation for the IGCSE Exams, CCA for Year 11 students will be voluntary this term (Jan’14 to April’14). This will enable them to have more time for revision.

Information Session for the Primary Checkpoint Assessment 2014 There will be an Information Session for parents/guardians whose children will be sitting for the Cambridge Checkpoint Assessment Tests this April 2014. The de-tails of the session are as follows:-

Date: Tuesday, 28 January 2014 Time: 5.00pm to 6.00pm Venue: School Auditorium

The session will cover the significance of the checkpoint assessment test, the structure and format of each subject tested. We hope to provide parents with a clearer understanding of the tests and also ways to support your child/ward at home.
