Kirsten Penney

On Wednesday 24th of April, Kirsten Penney (7.1) competed in the 2019 School Sport Victoria State Swimming event, held at MSAC in South Melbourne. The competitors of the event are the best swimmers from state schools across Victoria, and hence some of the most well credentialed in the state. Kirsten repre-sented not only Highvale Secondary College but also the entire Eastern Metropolitan region of Melbourne. She competed in the 50-metre backstroke event and finished in 3rd place, a fantastic achievement by Kirsten. Thanks to Kirsten’s parents for taking her to the event and supporting her. Congratulations and we look forward to many more years of great swimming from Kirsten.

Languages News

Last Friday we had three French Alliance Française examiners visit Highvale SC. From 9am until 1pm

the examiners listened to approx. 260 of our French students, who bravely presented their poem,

overcoming their nervousness!

The students all gathered at various appointed times in the H15 breakout space and then took turns

going in to recite their poem for the examiners.

Thank you so much to all the teachers on the day, who let their students out of class for a while. And

a thank you also to M. Moreau and Mme Bosquet for their help on the day, calming and directing the

students before their turn.

Instrumental Music Home Practice

All instrumental music students will have their homework written in the Compass lesson plan each lesson. Parents can keep track of the expectation of the student’s instrumental teacher by regularly checking the student’s class and lesson plan on a weekly basis. On the evening of Thursday 16th May, Madeleine Costello and I were pleased to supervise the third round of debating for 2019. Many students participated in their first secret topic debates where they were given 1 hour to prepare without the use of any devices. All students should be really proud of their efforts as this is a very tough task. We are happy to report that we managed to win four of our debates this round, including the first win for our A Grade team this year. In addition to this, we currently have a B Grade team (year 11) who are undefeated for this season. Whilst we had a few losses, all students seemed to leave the evening in high spirits and with motivation for our next round which will be held on Thursday June 27th.
