K-2 Home Readers Home reading for K-2 classes will finish this Friday, 7th December. Could all home reading books please be returned to

your class teacher by Friday.

Library Books There are still a number of books which have not been returned to the library. Could families please assist by looking under beds and in all of the nooks and crannies at home to locate any books that belong to the school library. As there is no more borrowing from the school library, the Public Library is again running their Summer Reading Club. Information is available through the website, the library or from me at school.

Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show Our K-2 students were provided with a free performance on Tuesday, “Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure”. The show is aimed at Kindergarten and Year 1 & 2 students and has proven extremely effective in teaching children to keep themselves safe. Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show presents protective behaviour strategies for children in a fun and non-confrontational style with Ditto the friendly lion club the star performer. It was a wonderful supplement to our Child Protection program taught during term 3. The students were given an activity book which they will bring home this week. Gala Night Report by Phoebe & Georgia

The 2018 Gala Night was a hug success! The Gala Night was an opportunity for our awesome music groups to shine. We started off the night with the amazing Junior Band, followed by the Senior Band and the Choir singing a couple of sets. All the musicians and singers were superstars not to be outshone by a very surprise conductor …… Mrs Skerritt called Mrs Wild up to the stage to conduct a song that was surely named after her … BORN TO BE WILD! After this the Year Sixers and Oscar Geronimi were very proud and excited to finally perform the two jazz songs they have been working on all year. Up next, the teachers’ band, with Mrs Bruggemann singing, performed Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, which got the whole crowd singing and jiving along. The jingle jiving continued as the senior band and choir played/sung Feliz Navidad. The night ended with Mrs Bruggemann saying a very heartfelt thank you to our terrific tutors, staff and students and their families for supporting our music program. They then handed out certificates to our graduating Year 6 members to celebrate their time in the NHPS band and choir programs. On behalf of all the performers we would like to give a huge thanks to Bailey, Nait and Cleo for leading the night as fantastic comperes. And a special thanks to Lillibet, David and Nathanael for giving up their time to come and help the band. But most importantly we would like to give a very special thanks to our tutors Mr Harries, Mr Moore and Mrs Ridgewell along with Mrs Skerritt and Mrs Bruggemann for organising and making not only this night possible, but for also supporting us as budding musicians!

Lakeside Nursing Home Visit Report by Jake & Tom

Last Thursday a compact version of our Senior Band and the Choir went to the Lakeside Laurieton Nursing Home to perform for the elderly people there. The Choir started us off by singing a few wonderful songs that they all really enjoyed, some were even dancing and singing along. The band followed shortly after, playing songs like “Lavender Blue”, “Jupiter” (from Holst’s “The Planets”), a bit of jazz and then some festive songs. We also played “Feliz Navidad” in unison with the choir. The residents really enjoyed it and a couple joined in and really got into the spirit of it. The students who went really enjoyed the experience and also really loved the look on the audience’s faces when they lit up with joy listening to the songs. I think we also really enjoyed it because it was helping out the community, bringing joy to people who might be feeling a bit lonely or down in the dumps. It’s nice to give back to our community A huge thank you to Mrs Skerritt and Mrs Bruggemann and thanks to Mr Budai for helping us out, bringing equipment to and from the venue.
