TownofNorthHempsteadSupervisorJudiBosworthandtheTownBoard,inpartnershipwithNassauCountyandtheNassauCountyPoliceDepartment,willbehostinga“ShedtheMeds”pharmaceuticaldrop-offeventonSaturday,September12,2020from8a.m.to12p.m.atNorthHempsteadBeachPark(southlot)inPortWashington.Safelydisposeofunwantedandexpiredmedication.Thiswillhelpkeeppotentiallydangerouspharmaceuticalsoutofthehandsofchildrenandprotectourgroundwaterandwaterways.Accepteditemswillinclude:prescriptions,prescriptionpatches,prescriptionmedications,prescriptionointments,over-the-countermedications,vitamins,samplemedicationsandmedicationsforpets.
Needles,sharps,aerosolcans,thermometers,ointments(liquidorlotion),hydrogenperoxide,inhalers,biohazardouswaste,andmedicationfrombusinesseswillNOTbeaccepted.

ThePIsocialworkandnurseteamcontinuestoworkveryhardatkeepingconnectedtoPIMembersremotely.PISocialWorkersandNurseshavebeenfiguringoutcreativesolutionstohelpeaseseniors’fearsofisolation,anxietyandfearsofgettingfood,medicalmanagementandmanyotherservices.IfyouwouldliketoconnectwithaPISocialWorkeroraPINurse,pleasecall311or869-6311.

Thetransportationprogram(foodandmedical)isstillexpandedto7daysperweek,town-widefrom7a.m.to2p.m.duringthiscrisis.TheTownwillbeincurringallcostsassociatedwithPITransportation,includingtips,inanefforttofurtherreducethethreatofpotentialtransmission,nomoneywillbetransferredbetweentherideranddriver.ThePITransportationprogramalsoservicespeoplewithdisabilitieswhoresideintheTownages21–59.Residentscancall311or516-869-6311,tomakeanappointment.
