DC Report

Welcome to Spring and hopefully the start of some better weather!

James Harper One Day EventThis rally sees our annual James Harper Mini One Day Event (ODE) being held at Powranna.Don’t forget the rally has changed from Sunday to Saturday, due to the Schools Gymkhana being held on the Sunday.

It is a wonderful event for our younger riders to get a taste of what happens at an ODE in an informal, pressure free situation. Older riders and parents will be on hand to help our younger members and their parents along the way and hopefully the day will inspire some future eventers for the Club.

Phyliss Pyke is the contact for the event, so please direct all enquiries to Phyliss.

AGMThank you to everyone who came along to our AGM at the last rally.

I am delighted to report that all positions were filled, and I congratulate those new to the Committee. It is wonderful to see we have so many enthusiastic parents who are willing to take on Committee roles. The Club cannot go robustly into the future without the support of parents of our younger riders. Already we have had our first meeting with the new Committee contributing some very positive thoughts.

A list of new Committee members and their roles can be found further on in the newsletter.

TPRC GymkhanaWhat a wonderful day we had for our gymkhana. Despite the pouring rain in the days prior to and during the night before, the sun shone through for us and riders and ponies came out in their droves.

A very big thank you to Tanya Bowman and her helpers for organizing the day. I’m sure all those who attended will agree, it was a very well organized and run event. Also thank you to everyone who helped out in any way on the day. It was a great success.

Well done to all TPRC riders who attended the gymkhana and a very big CONGRATULATIONS to Maddi Pearn and Springfield Eryleen, on taking out the coveted Kilby Cup. This trophy is awarded to the horse and rider with the most points accumulated for the day, competing in flat classes, jumping and games…… well done Maddie.

Northern Schools Dressage and ShowjumpingThe next event on TPRC’s calendar will be held at the Westbury Showground on Sunday 18th November. Schedules will be sent to schools early in third term, so please contact your schools Equestrian Co-ordinator if you wish to enter. The schedule will also be on the TPRC website,

however all entries must come through the school.

The day will be split into a dressage competition and a showjumping competition so riders can compete in one discipline or both. Dressage tests offered will range from preliminary to novice and showjumping will start from around 55cm, giving even the youngest riders an opportunity to compete.

This will be a major fundraiser for the Club so all members will be asked to offer a helping hand.

Northern Zone Showjumping and Northern Zone DressageThese two zone events will be held in October at the West Tamar Pony Club ground at Gravelly Beach.

Northern Zone Showjumping will be held on Sunday 21st October (the day after Longford Show) and Northern Zone Dressage will be held on Sunday 28th October.

Schedules for these will be emailed to riders once I have received them. All entries need to come through me with payment and I will forward them onto the respective organizing clubs, so please keep an eye on your email for these schedules.

November RallyOur November rally is scheduled for Sunday 18th November, which is the same day as our Northern Schools Dressage and Showjumping Day.

Unfortunately we had to hold the event on this day as it was the only day we were able to book Westbury Showground without running into other pony club events.

The Committee has therefore decided to replace the rally with a twighlight rally on Thursday 15th November from 5pm. Further information will be coming out to you at a later date, but please make a note of the change in your diaries.

James Harper Mini ODEThe James Harper Memorial O.D.E. is held in memory of James Harper, a very popular and dedicated member of T.P.R.C. who passed away as a result of an accident in the N.T. in 2004. James was the son of Barry and Sharon Harper and along with his sisters Michelle and Lauren, was a member of our Club for several years.

This event is only open to our own Club members and is particularly suited to our younger riders as an introduction to eventing. Traditionally our senior riders prepare the course and assist younger riders during the day, it is very informal and relaxed and takes the place of our usual rally. Barry and his family kindly donate trophies and ribbons for the event each year.

Riders may enter on the day in the following classes:-Grade 3 (test 1B) XC/SJ height height 80cmGrade 4 (test PCAV 4B) height 65cmGrade 5 (PCAV 5B with canter or PCAV 5A no canter) height 50cm

Our senior riders and parents will be on hand to assist the younger riders with their dressage tests and jumping phases. Entries for the ODE will be taken on the day but riders need to be entered no later than 9.30 a.m.. Co-ordinators are Phyliss and Jess Pyke who will be available at the rally to help you with any queries that you may have. The day will commence at 9 a.m. with parents to assist coordinators with set up of dressage, SJ arena and XC course (coordinators will be XC Theresa Elias, Dressage Jeanene Gillow and SJ Jess Pyke)

The event will commence with gear check (grade 5 first) at 9.45 a.m. followed by Dressage at 10 a.m. A draw for the dressage will be available on the notice board. The day will run as follows:-Upon arrival – Enter at the Clubroom before 9.30 a.m. and collect your competition back number. Gear check for dressage phase – 9.45a.m.Dressage 10 a.m. – Ring 1(gravel ring)- Grade 5A then 5B, followed by grade 4, grade 3 Each dressage test takes approximately 5 minutes to complete and when all tests are finished cross country will commence as follows:-Stewards briefing approx 10.45 a.m. – for XC fence judges (parents)Gear check for XC – commencing with gr 5 approx 10.45 a.m. Cross Country (approx) 11am – Gr 5,- followed by 4 and 3 LUNCH 12.30p.m. – 1.30 p.m.Showjumping (approx) 1.45 p.m. - Grade 5, followed by 4, 3Presentation 3 p.m. – of ribbons and trophies

Prior to the commencement of the XC phase, there will be a fence judges briefing, this is where parents who have been allocated a XC fence to judge, will be informed of the correct procedure on how to score riders as they attempt your fence. All parents of riders will be asked to assist with fence stewarding this is a relatively simple task and anyone who is not sure can buddy up with an experienced helper.

Our mini ODE is a relaxed, fun learning day for our members so please feel free to ask our senior riders and committee members for any assistance during the day.If you require a copy of any dressage tests etc please let me know. Any queries please phone Phyliss or Jess Pyke (6393 1682)/email ([email protected])

ReminderJust a little reminder to members regarding the end of the pony club day. Each rally a

committee member is nominated to stay behind and close all the gates. Sometimes families

are a little slow to get going, which means the person who is shutting the gate has to wait. If you look like being the last few, please be

mindful of this person and don’t be too much longer.

Uniform

Don’t forget our uniform requirements. All riders must in the first instance, purchase

the full pony club uniform ie gold jumper, white shirt and gold tie. Even our youngest riders need to have this uniform as they need it

when they sit their D test at age 7 and for club presentation at camp.

The rugby jumper and active riding top are optional extras only.

Wet Weather PolicyRallies will NOT be cancelled in the morning

unless there is an electrical storm.Parents should not ring to find out if the

rally will go ahead, but if you decide you are not going to attend due to the wet weather,

please let Kylee know ASAP. The rally may be cancelled during the day if necessary.

In the case of an electrical storm, the DC and CC will confer. If the rally is cancelled everyone will be notified by text by 9am which means the

rally start time may need to be delayed.

REMINDER

A reminder that there is to be NO smoking or dogs on the Pony Club grounds at ALL times. We want to be setting a good example for our riders, so if you must light up, please leave the grounds.

Also pick up any rubbish and either place it in a bin or take it with you.
