February 2019 Quarter3 Solen School District Naonally Recognized Fresh Fruits And Vegetables Program Did you know?? Beans belong to both the Vegetable and Protein Food Groups. Some favorite ways kids like to eat beans are in burritos, tacos, chili, dips, and quesadillas. Solen High School and Cannon Ball Elementary were named Naonal ESEA Disnguished Schools by North Dakota Department of Public Instrucon. The Naonal ESEA Disnguished Schools program recognizes schools for outstanding achievement of their students. Developmental Screening Do you have a child or know of a child who is not developing skills at the same rate as other children his/her age? If so, a developmental screening is available for children 3, 4, and 5 years of age free of charge. The screening includes a brief review of the following developmental areas: Basic Concepts - (counng, color idenficaon, etc) Language - (understanding and using words) Speech - (sound producon) Fine Motor - (prewring, cung, etc) Gross Motor - (catching, jumping, etc) Vision, and Hearing If you have any quesons or concerns about your child’s rate of development in these areas, or would like to schedule a screening appointment, please contact your local school district, or Deb Tibor, Morton-Sioux Special Educaon Unit Child Find Coordinator at 701-751-6500 regarding screening dates.

Classroom Happenings

Lady Sioux Basketball The Lady Sioux are running strong, we stand together in faith in each other. By no means are we perfect but we are still here and hard work over the summer and throughout the season is paying off. We have high hopes for a memorable season.

We open up against New Salem in Districts at Flasher High School, February 8 at 6:00pm. We invite everyone to come out and join us! We will be led by our senior captain, LaTosha Thunderhawk. LaTosha averaged 16 points per game, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. We look for huge efforts from all of our roster, Antaya Thunderhawk, Astacia Conika, Josie White Eagle, Teyah Uses Arrow, LeeAnn Fool Bear, Cecily Real Bird, Angel Thunderhawk, Anna Yellowhammer, Rosie Yellowhammer and Cienna Redbear. We are coming off of a three-game winning streak. This team has grown and evolved into a special program! Our lady JV will be closing out their season at home on Tuesday against McLaughlin. We are so proud of our ladies and of all their hard work over the JV season! #OURTIMEISNOW

Science Fair The Science Fair was held on Monday, December 17 at Cannon Ball Elementary. Students in 3rd–8th grade competed. Micah Two Bears, Kaleciah One Horn, Kimmimilia American Horse, Christian Dubrey, Livia Mutchler and Tashi Iron Road received first place and will be attending the State Science Fair. Zoe DeCouteau, Lanie Bell Miner, Mikah Buckly and Rosie Cheauma received 2nd place. The state science fair will be held in Bismarck on Monday, January 21.

Dakota Language RecognitionThe Lakota Language Consortium named Solen High School as the “Most Improved High School” in 2017-2018 for its stronger scores in a cultural assessment.

Attendance Incentive Students who were eligible for the 2nd Quarter attendance incentive went sledding on January 10, 2019.
