Newsletter 27 July 2017 Tena koutou katoa, Welcome back to Term 3! It has been lovely chatting to our students and hearing all about their school holidays. Thankfully the flooding around the school grounds had fully subsided by Sunday and we had no major issues that would have resulted in us having to close, so we are all business as usual. Our thoughts and well wishes go out to any Southbridge School families or community members who have suffered damages or loss as a result of the recent storm, the weather certainly has been erratic and challenging for many. As you are aware, we had several construction projects happening over the school holidays here at school. A new accessibility ramp has been installed into our recently renovated music suite. We are grateful to Neville Carter and his team for completing this project so quickly and efficiently and enabling all of our students to now have easy access to utilising this specialist teaching and learning space. We also had our junior block renovations happening. While we are thrilled with the works completed so far, there is still a lot more to be done. We tried to complete all the internal work so our classes would not be disrupted once the term started and thankfully this has been the case, with all 4 junior classes in their rooms on Monday. Com 6 and 7 are fortunate enough to be able to use their breakout space between the 2 classes immediately as we are only waiting on the new windows and doors to be fitted soon. Unfortunately the breakout space between Com 4 and 5 still has some internal work to be completed on top of the new doors and windows being installed so this space is currently locked and out of bounds for all of week 1. We are also waiting for the shade cover to go over our new deck and for the internal windows to be installed in the classes. I am hopeful that any work that needs to be completed in the class will be completed either after school or in the next school holidays so as not to disrupt learning. In the meantime, please pop in and check out Com 6 and 7’s new flexible learning space - it looks great! Nga mihi nui, Tamara Bell - Whaea T Principal – Tumuaki

Newsletter 27 July 2017

Tena koutou katoa,

Welcome back to Term 3! It has been lovely chatting to our students and hearing all about

their school holidays. Thankfully the flooding around the school grounds had fully subsided by

Sunday and we had no major issues that would have resulted in us having to close, so we are all

business as usual. Our thoughts and well wishes go out to any Southbridge School families or

community members who have suffered damages or loss as a result of the recent storm, the

weather certainly has been erratic and challenging for many.

As you are aware, we had several construction projects happening over the school holidays

here at school. A new accessibility ramp has been installed into our recently renovated music

suite. We are grateful to Neville Carter and his team for completing this project so quickly and

efficiently and enabling all of our students to now have easy access to utilising this specialist

teaching and learning space.

We also had our junior block renovations happening. While we are thrilled with the works

completed so far, there is still a lot more to be done. We tried to complete all the internal work

so our classes would not be disrupted once the term started and thankfully this has been the

case, with all 4 junior classes in their rooms on Monday. Com 6 and 7 are fortunate enough to

be able to use their breakout space between the 2 classes immediately as we are only waiting

on the new windows and doors to be fitted soon. Unfortunately the breakout space between

Com 4 and 5 still has some internal work to be completed on top of the new doors and

windows being installed so this space is currently locked and out of bounds for all of week 1.

We are also waiting for the shade cover to go over our new deck and for the internal windows

to be installed in the classes. I am hopeful that any work that needs to be completed in the

class will be completed either after school or in the next school holidays so as not to disrupt

learning. In the meantime, please pop in and check out Com 6 and 7’s new flexible learning

space - it looks great!

PRESCHOOL PROGRAMME

The pre-school programme which runs in Com 7 on alternate Thursdays throughout the year

will start again next Thursday 3 August 2017. This programme is for children who will be

attending Southbridge School within the next 12 months. You may attend as many of the

preschool sessions as you like. The pre-school programme runs from 2 - 2:45pm. Please sign in

and out at the school office. It is helpful if you can let Mrs Bernadette Woffenden know when

you are attending a session (contact the night before is fine). She can be contacted by email.

[email protected]

Dates for the preschool programme for Term 3 this year are as follows:

Thursday 3rd August Thursday 17th August Thursday 31st August

Thursday 14th September Thursday 28th September

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

Your child will have come home recently with a Scholastic

Book Club order booklet. With every order you make our

school benefits by receiving rewards which are redeemed for

books for our library. It would help us hugely if you could

check that your child’s order form is filled out correctly and that the exact money is given.

Order forms and payment should be handed into the office in a named envelope by next

Friday, 4 August. Credit cards or cheques made out to Scholastic NZ Ltd are preferred payment

methods.

SEEDS OF LEARNING

Our Seeds of Learning (SOL) committee has for sale:

Worm concentrate liquid fertiliser $4.00 per litre

Our SOL Programme also needs the following items; any donations of these would be

most appreciated:

Donations of chicken food and pig food

Garden gloves, brooms and disposable gloves.

Rawhiti will be returning to school next week. He has had some time at Mrs W's for some rest

and recovery after his wee op. He has been castrated to ensure he remains friendly and a great

friend for the children.

Community 6

Com 6 and 7 are super lucky to have a brand new breakout space! We are using this space for learning and developmental playing. In our breakout space we have carpeted floors and a jellybean table for learning. Our classroom now has no door! We are really enjoying this new space and discovering different ways to use it!

COMMUNITY NOTICES

Be Part of Our School Policy Making

You may recall last year the Board of Trustees decided

to change our policy and procedure review management system. Our school has now

completed the move to SchoolDocs (a centralised, independent policy and procedure

management entity), meaning that all of our policies and procedures are available online via

the SchoolDocs website. All members of our community (board, staff and parents/caregivers)

can now easily view our policies and provide feedback on some particular policies as they

become available for review.

If you would like to read or comment on the policies at anytime, then please go to the following

website address: http://www.schooldocs.co.nz/Home/SchoolLogin.aspx.

Once you are there, begin to type in ‘Southbridge School’ in the available text box and then

select our school for that box when it appears. Then type in the username ‘southbridge’ and

password ‘Hastings’ and click ‘OK’.
