NEWSLETTER ~ TERM 2 - No 3– 17 May 2018
St Joseph’s School Has Got Talent It is back! St Joseph’s School Has Got Talent is back
to entertain us. If it is anything like last year it will
be a wonderful event where we can celebrate the
many talents of the students at our school. Auditions
will take place next week. This will be followed by
semi finals the following week. The SJS Has Got
Talent final will take place on Thursday 31 May.
Newsletter Correction - Sunday Class Mass
In last week’s newsletter Hanrahan 1 and kealy 1
were listed down for class mass on Sunday 27 May.
However there was a swap made earlier on this year
so Hanrahan 1 and Kealy 2 will not be attending
Mass on that day. Instead Kealy 1 and McAuley 3.
Mrs Culling has provided an updated list of class
masses so that the correct information is included in
future Newsletters.

Sporting Success
Cantabrians are well known for their love of sport.
Catholic schools take their passion for sport to
another level. St Joseph’s School is no exception.
We are committed to providing students with a
range of sporting activities to assist them to
develop their physical skills and develop a joy for
physical activity.
Last week the school held its School Cross
Country. Every child from 5 to 13 years of age
participated in this event. I was not only impressed
with the speed of some of our best runners but also
the determination of those who accepted the
challenge and gave it their best. The results are on
the following page.
Thanks to Mr McGuire and the team who
organised the school Cross Country as well as
managing the team which participated in the North
Zone competition yesterday. A huge
congratulations to the 48 students from St Joseph’s
School who represented the school at the North
Zone Cross Country.
The sporting opportunities do not end there. This
week Senior Team students will participate in the
Christchurch School’s Winter Sport Competition.
St Joseph’s has a number of rugby, football, netball
and hockey teams that will play in a ten week long
tournament against other schools throughout
Canterbury.
This term the Middle School students will walk to
the Redwood Action Indoor Sports Stadium every
week to learn how to play volleyball. This will
conclude at the end of the term with a volleyball
tournament.
Baby Celebration
A huge congratulations to Rachel Cook and her
partner Graham who celebrated the birth of
Benjamin last week at Christchurch Women’s
Hospital. On behalf of the school community I
would like to extend our best wishes and prayers to
the family.
The Spirit came and your Church was born, in wind and fire and words of power. The Spirit came blowing fear aside, and in its place weak hearts were stronger. The Spirit came as your word foretold, with dreams and signs, visions and wonders. The Spirit came and is here today, to feed the hearts of a world that hungers.
