PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: Dear Parents/Carers, Book Week has been a lot of fun this week with many book characters visiting our classrooms. Thank you for supporting our Book Fair as well. All book orders are due back to school by Sept 1st for ordering through Candelo Book Store.

Smooth Start commences tomorrow for prospective Kindergarten students planning to attend BVPS in 2017. If you know of any family with pre school aged children who might be ready for Kinder next year please let them know about our Smooth Start transition program. This program allows children to join in school-based activities for 8 consecutive Friday sessions this term and Term 4 to prepare them for school in 2017.

Our students performed fantastically at the opera House this week as a part of the combined schools’ Recorder Ensemble. Many thanks go out to the parents and teachers who have developed this group and provided transport and supervision for the excursion.

The BVPS Performance of ‘Peter Pan’ will be held during the last week of this term, Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st September, matinee and evening shows. (Information follows in this Newsletter). Tickets are available for sale from next Monday, no reserved tickets or seating and ticket sales will be limited so don’t delay :)

Bega Valley Athletics Club Come and Try

Afternoon The 2016/17 Little Athletics

season, which runs from October to

March, is about to commence. Little Athletics

is all about family, fun and fitness. Athletes

develop basic running, jumping and throwing skills by

participating in highly active training sessions and are

eligible to compete in Little Athletics ACT carnivals.

Children who are in the U7 – U17 age group are welcome to

join the Bega Valley Athletics Club.

A parent must come with their child/children to all training

afternoons and help run events for the athletes. The athletics

sessions involve age groups from U7 - U17 participating in

many running, jumping and throwing events. This requires

significantly more adult support than other sports. The club

familiarizes parents with the events and how to help.

If the Come & Try is cancelled due to wet weather, children

are welcome to come to the first training afternoon on

Thursday October 13, from 5.00 - 6.30 pm. Come and Try

NINES WITH THE BOMBERS

Nines! This is a game that the family can play together. Yep mum, Dad and the kids over the age of say 8 or 9. It’s pretty fast so the kids might be able to run the legs off the old man and it’s about kicking and catching so the oldies might have a bit of an advantage there.

The Bega Bombers will stage a spring nines mixed age/gender competition starting with registrations Wed 24 Aug at 4.00pm at the showground.

They will form teams of eleven players a mix of youngsters and parents, even grandparents male and female and they’ll have fun and get fit every Wednesday afternoon with a series of games and social sessions from 4.30pm.

Registration costs $35 and is capped at $100 for as many family members as want to play. Can I register and play without mum and dad? Yes of course you can. Are boys and girls welcome? You bet. How old do I need to be? Say eight or nine and don’t worry there’s no contact so you won’t get hurt.

Father’s Day Stall The P&C will be holding a Father’s Day Stall on Thursday the 1st of September from 9.10am until recess. All presents will be $1 to $5 each and the SRC will be gift wrapping for 50c. Students will go to the stall with their class, strictly one gift per child.

We will need some help manning the stall if you can help out from 8.30 to 11 (or any time in that period) please text Rod 0410 529 517.

School Play – Fruit Platters The P&C will be preparing fruit platters for the school play in the canteen from 2 - 3pm in Week 10 this term Tuesday 20th September and Wednesday 21st September - if you can help out on either of these

School Stream App The P&C is very supportive of the school’s move to start using the School Stream App. You can download this App for free at the ITunes store or the equivalent App store for non-Apple phones. The School will use this App to get information like newsletters, bus breakdowns, absent notes, excursion details etc out to parents. Once you have downloaded the App you will be able to sign up to Bega Valley Public School and get all the alerts in real time as they are posted. P&C Meeting Our next meeting is Monday 19

BEGA GIRLS ONLY AFL AUSKICK Last week we saw the start of the Bega Girls only AFL Auskick. It is being run at the Bega Show Grounds on Tuesday afternoons between 4 & 5pm. This program concentrates on fun, participation and skill development in a safe and friendly environment. Girls between the ages of 4 & 10 years of age are welcome.
