Dear Parents/Caregivers, It’s hard to believe but the end of the 2009 kindy year is almost here. We have had the most incredibly busy fortnight in kindy his- tory, surviving an extremely successful string of events. Our kindy open day, AGM and opening of our sensory garden and gazebo was a fabulous event which will be remembered by all that attended for many years to come. We had loads of fun and celebrations and also fare- welled our amazing governing Council of 2009 and welcomed the new Governing Council of 2010. We also presented our 2009 annual Report for the kindergarten. We have provided additional copies for families to take home which are located on the entry foyer bookshelf. Thanks so much to everyone for attending our open day and also a huge thanks to our GC members and extra parents who fought the weather and helped with set up and pack up. You all helped to make the day so special. An extra special Thanks to Karen and Jarad Stanley for covering the costs of the magician as a donation to our kindy. Our kindy concert was amazing! Thanks to our brilliant children who sang their little hearts out and sat so beautifully through what ended up being a long concert. It was so lovely to see our children express their love of singing, dancing and playing on stage. Thanks so much to every one for attending and also to our GC parents for their help and support with DVD orders, drink sales, set up and pack up. It is with much pride and also some sadness that we say goodbye to our children starting school in term 1 next year. We would like to thank all of the leaving children and their families for their support, love and friend- ship. We will miss you all! We would also like to say Goodbye to our beautiful friend Claire Muller who is leaving Lobethal kindy and heading to the Riverland. We will miss you xx We still have many things planned for this week, our graduations x 2 and our very exciting ‘breakfast&bounce@kindy’ on this Thursday 10th Dec. We are so lucky to have a jumping castle at kindy for our last session. We are luckier still that Laurie and Todd have donated the hire to us. Please remember to support ‘Busy Bouncers’ the next time you need to hire a jumping castle! Remember to return your child’s RSVP slips to indicate attendance and help with catering. We also have our kindy pageant float entry in the Lobethal Pageant on Dec 23rd. We would love as many kindy kids to join our float. We have a notice board at the kindy for you to write your name and email address so we can get in contact with you prior to the evening. Our float theme is.. “Lobethal kindy/playgroup children, our greatest gifts’ so dress up as a pressie, paint or wrap a box and hop aboard! On a final and sad note, on behalf of our entire kindy community, I would like to say a big thank you and farewell to our Governing Council Chairper- son, Paulette Joyce (and family). Thanks a million, your generous heart and spirit will be remembered and appreciated forever! Have a great holiday, full of love and fun! LAST DAY– END OF YEAR CLEAN UP

Thanks so much to the parents who have volunteered to help out with this term’s help roster. We have published the allocated dates so you know w hat dates you have been rostered on to. We still have a few spots to fill, (see Below) so i f you can help out, please let Lee or Margot know.

PARENT ROSTER

Child Car Restraints All children should be restrained in the car! Did you know that in a crash at 60kmph a 15 kg child equals the force of 22 bags of cement in 3/100 of a second. Can you imagine trying to hold onto that? Can you imagine the impact that would have on your most precious cargo? What sort of restraints are available? Newborns-9kg Baby Capsule Newborns-18kg Convertible Car Seat, rearward facing until the child outgrows this position at 12kgs 8-18kg Forward Facing Child Safety Seat 14-26kg Booster Seat (with or without additional harness) 14-32kg Child Safety Harness if required (advice is available from RAA Child Safety Centre) All restraints must be correctly fitted, in a safe condition (no worn straps, etc.), meet Australian Standards and be less than 10 years old. Children should not be moved into the next type of seat until they OUTGROW the one they are in. For example, an 8 yr old who is smaller than average may still require a booster seat as the standard car seat belt may not sit in the correct position. A seat belt must fit correctly, low over the hips and firmly across the shoulder, not touching the neck or stomach. Children should not sit in the front seat of a vehicle for safety reasons and under proposed legislation children from the age of 4-7 years will only be permitted in the front seat if all rear seats are occupied by children up to the same age. Children should not travel in the front seat if there is an air bag fitted as per manufacturers warning until they are 12 years or older, as even low speed crashes could cause serious injury. It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that children under 1 year are restrained in an appropriate child restraint and chil-dren between 1 year and 16 years are appropriately restrained. So, if you are driving a vehicle and a 7 year old passenger is wearing a seat belt which does not fit correctly (ie., the shoulder strap sits over the neck), you are responsible. You could be liable for a fine and, in the event of a car accident you may find that you are not covered by insurance and may even be crimi-nally liable. Legislation regarding child restraints is going to change in 2010 and has already changed in Victoria. More detailed information regarding child restraints can be obtained from the RAA Child Safety Centre on 8202 4592 or www.raa.com.au . The RAA also offers a service where you can see what restraints are suitable for your family’s situation and have them fitted by appointment.

Past staff, students and community are invited to Lenswood P.S Open Day to celebrate 140 years in the district. Registration and Roll Call from 1.00pm. Classroom and memorabilia displays. No parking at school– drop off only! Parking avail at Lenswood Recreation Park at the bottom of the school hill. Contact the School for more info. 8389 8278

Our Wine Auction Dinner/Mad Hat evening was a fabulous night! Organised to perfection by the amazing Paulette Joyce, the evening was also named “Operation Table and Chairs” from a fundraising perspective, in the hope of raising enough funds to replace our somewhat outdated tables and chairs. Paulette went about writing to local, South Australian and National wineries asking for donations of wine to auction off on the evening. The response from wineries was incredible and the donations were expan-sive and impressive, not only did she get loads of wine donations, she got quality wine donations. She also managed to get our friends from Chain of Ponds Winery to be our major sponsor and donate count-less bottles of wine, premium wine packs and also a B&B package for two including lunch at their restau-rant to raffle off… WOW! We also had loads of trees from Balhannah Nurseries and donations from other local businesses which were used for raffles, prizes and lucky square prize packs. Held at the Lobethal Sports and Recreation Grounds Club on Saturday November 7th, people came out in their finest evening and hat wear (some were forced to wear fabulous kindy made creations). Everyone looked amazing and were served beautiful nibbles prepared by our lovely Governing Council ladies (Lucy Broekers, Naomi Wallis and Haylie Fox) and a complimentary wine to get the evening rolling. Lisa Gutte took buyers’ registration details, Narelle Ryan got everyone seated, then the fun began. Enter Auctioneer extraordinaire Lincoln Powell (Charlie’s Dad). Lincoln did a fabulous job getting every-one to buy up big for a fabulous cause… our kids! Not only did Lincoln do a grand job auctioning off over 60 lots of wine, he also was extremely entertaining and constantly reminded us about the fabulous community spirit we enjoy at Lobethal Kindy. On the topic of fabulous spirit, we also had another parent who was too cool for School, so he came to kindy and played with us instead…. Well, him and his band did. ‘Cool World’ led by Garry North (Ashwyn’s Dad) provided us with great music to sing and dance to and even played a little AC/DC to end the evening, what a star! Another highlight of the evening was the screening of the much anticipated kindy DVD, produced and created by another one of our amazing Parents, Dianne Herrmann. This DVD was amazing, there’s just no other word for it. It captured the essence of what our kindy means to us from the perspective of our children, staff and parents. Viewed in 3x10min parts, we all watched in wonder and celebrated the fabulous documentation of our kindy from someone else’s lens. Dianne spent hundreds of hours on this and it was a definite highlight of the evening (this DVD will be available to pur-chase soon). The evening was a great event, enjoyed with great food, wine, bargains and company. Our total raised on the evening was just shy of $4,000 which is a phenomenal amount and means that we will be getting out of the 70’s and into the noughties/tennies with new, modern chairs and tables. YIPPIE!!! Thanks so much to everyone involved with the wine auction. Thanks to Paulette & Brett Joyce, Lucy Broekers and Narelle Ryan for ticket sales, Lincoln for being our auctioneer, Dianne for the DVD, Lisa Gutte, Haylie Fox, Margot, Janice, Naomi Wallis, Belinda Mitchell for helping with set up and organisation. Thanks also to everyone who attended and supported our fundraiser, without your support and attendance we wouldn’t have had such great success. Thanks also to our many sponsors (list on display at kindy) and the Beltrame family, for a wine auction without wine doesn’t really work!!!! Thanks again to everyone involved and apologies if we missed saying thanks to any one!
